Nice, simple cottage but on a VERY busy road, which kept us awake at night. Losing I day of our holiday for a 'covid deep clean' not worth it, cottage certainly could have been cleaner.
Again another tale of how I feel Norfolk Hideaways have let me and my family down and hid behind their "legal advisors" whilst saying my contract is with the owners. But also that I should use travel insurance or credit cards to claim my money back, anything but them acknowledge they should do as other travel companies are doing and refund.
I have logged a case with the CMA (competition and markets authority). It takes 5 mins.
Simply avoid them once Covid is open and book with people who will focus on customer satisfaction.
I am an owner of a cottage marketed through Norfolk Hideaways. It is very easy to complain about holidays at the moment and awful reviews are easy to copy and escalate. Norfolk Hideaways have been very professional and communicative with owners in these difficult times. It is imperative in these times that owners and clients are understanding of the difficulties that companies such as Hideaways are facing. They have large costs, no income and most staff furloughed. I can assure you Hideaways are contacting owners to ask if bookings can be cancelled, refunded or vouchers issued. I have offered vouchers, extensions to vouchers, discounts and a few cancellations. Everyone is suffering but everyone will lose if companies like Hideaways go under. They have offered an invaluable professional service over the 10 or so years they have acted for me and have certainly looked after clients interests as well as my own. There would be far less wonderful holidays in Norfolk without them. It is always much better to ask nicely and I believe most owners listen. I really hope that bookings will start again in July so it might just be a case of a holiday delay. Norfolk is a very special place and it is much better that local agents manage the properties there.
We had a weeks holiday booked from 2nd May 2020. We are in lockdown and received no verbal contact about our booking at all. We just received an email to use a voucher to rebook our holiday up to and including the end of our original holiday. We were informed that Norfolk Hideaways were not holding any dates for us, so basically just get on with what we’ve offered you. We now know from the CMA that we were entitled to a full refund, this was never offered, nor is it mentioned in NH’s website, which incidentally hasn’t been updated with Covid19 information since 17 April 2020. We have reported NH to the CMA who have confirmed that the law has been broken and all firms reported to them WILL be contacted to explain themselves. They sent us a PDF setting out under what terms consumers are entitled to a refund and we met them all. NH are breaking the law, ask for a refund and make sure you get one it is your right. Companies like these play on the ignorance of the general public and get away with it, but maybe not this time.....
I had to cancel booking for end March due to Covid 19. Owner was extremely rude and repeatedly stated no refunds and if a rebooking was made for later in the year it could not be changed again. This was despite the fact we were on lockdown and had no choice. Will definitely not do business with this company again.
The Holiday Letting Agents and Certain Owners are in for a serious shock, the Terms and Conditions right now are clearly frustrated, and they hang onto to the hope the public will forget. Note to self, contact the owner direct, with whom you will have the contract, have an understanding, in writing if necessary, and avoid letting agents.I feel for the staff, not the wealthy owners or directors.
Have tried to cancel my holiday in July this year, and was told they are too busy to do this. I have sent emails trying to cancel the holiday, and today have written a letter, and sent it to them. I have taken a photocopy of the letter. I cannot understand whats going on with this Company.
We are longterm customers of Norfolk Hideaways and had booked a cottage for the end of July, deposit paid, balance due early May.
I have just spoke to Norfolk Hideaways to ask what we can do in light of the coronavirus situation.
I was told that the balance would still be due in May but that we can move the booking by upto 12 months from the original date.
I am very reluctant to pay another £500+ upfront in the hope that...
A, Norfolk Hideaways is still in business by that date, or...
B, The homeowner has not ceased accepting bookings or sold the property etc, gone bankrupt etc.
There is no insurance available anywhere for this either due to the current situation.
I was told that unless I pay the balance on time, the deposit would be lost and the booking cancelled.
I am pretty sure that we should be eligible for at least a partial refund of our deposit but they said not...
I would like to urge Norfolk Hideaways to do the right thing by its loyal customers as other companies are doing right now.
Recent holiday booked with this company at Wells Next The Sea. The issues at the property were of sufficient magnitude that my wife and I decided to abandon the holiday early and return home. I have some doubt whether this company inspect the properties they advertise on a regular basis. I would recommend anyone booking a self catering holiday to use a company that gives a star rating for the properties advertised.
Greedy company.
We booked in in Feb, for mid May 2019. Regret due to very serious health issues we have to cancel. Contacted Norfolk hideaways in March. Have been told that even if they re let the property we can only get back 50%.
Airbnb, hotels, and homeaway have all refunded in full.
Beware. Steer clear, we think this is an extremely greedy and unsympathetic company. Of course we are disappointed to cancel, we are in a worrying situation.
We booked a holiday cottage in Thornham with this company and stayed last week. We had issues with rennovation work being carried out next door but knew that the cottage was in the same ownership as our cottage. We were not informed of this building work by NH either before our stay or during. We feel we should have been offered an alternative cottage or the chance to cancel as we would not have stayed there had we known. We phoned NH on Friday morning to inform them of the demolition works being carried out next door and they said they would contact the owner and get back to us. We are now back home and 3 days after phoning have not heard anything from NH or the owner. We are very disappointed with this ‘service’ it ruined our holiday. I would suggest using another holiday cottage rental company in North Norfolk, we have used a couple of different ones for previous holidays (been visiting N Norfolk for 7 years) and have never had any problems.
Update: Almost two months later and still had no response!
5 years later and no response !
Finally responded 5 years after the event and asked me to remove the review in exchange for a discount voucher for cottage booking. No thanks, will never book with you again!
