Took complete advantage of us
At a time of stress and family loss, we needed help to clear our family home. This company looks like somewhere that will clear your valuables and sell them for your benefit. How wrong we were. Nick Barber came to the house and gave us all the right chat. Had a look round, quoted us a price and then took £500 off immediately in order to take away some vinyl records and an antique clock that were 'his thing'. He told us that in the past he had given customers money back - even £2,000 to one customer. He said everything had a value, even lightbulbs. He would ensure we kept what we wanted and then after the valuables (to sell), he'd take the charity stuff, then the rest to the tip. It is now the end and he wants us to pay him the remaining balance of £750. Our house was big. It had Royal Doulton crockery sets, vintage Dinky toys, antique Mahogany furniture, many leather handbags, antique coffin stools, Lloyd Loom chairs....the list goes on. He took it all. We had no way of clearing all the big stuff. We trusted him completely and he just took everything. He has offered us nothing for any of this. He has literally taken all our belongings (thankfully we took a lot of small valuables first) and flogged them for himself or whoever else he gave them to. Even one of our pieces of furniture, a coffin stool could have been worth £800. This is not a respectable auction house, this is a low level clearance company who took things we asked to be left and had to request they were returned, and lied to us at a time when we really were needing the most help. We are left mourning the loss of our father and our family home. Now we've invited someone to come and help us when we need it most and he has used this to his advantage. I am now taking advice on what to do next. Clearly we had nothing in writing, this is our biggest down fall, but there must be some way we can recoup the thousands of pounds this man has made at our expense.
