Natural Reader has become unproductive, frustrating, time-consuming, and very expensive!

Natural Reader was once an excellent and effective tool for TTS, but since its expansion, it has terrible customer service and even worse usage documentation! I'm very sorry I bought it! The older version was much more productive and user friendly! Now it's just disappointing, frustrating, time-consuming, and very expensive! For the last month, I've been trying to get their customer service team to help me correct extraneous voices appearing where they were never chosen to be. Very aggravating and unproductive!

Total downgrade!

Up until a couple of weeks ago, Natural Reader was the perfect compromise.
The free version offered unlimited voices that were actually good — in particular, the Italian voice Giuseppe, which was genuinely pleasant to listen to.

There were some minor issues with sentence breaks and occasional awkward pauses, but overall the experience was solid, especially considering it was a free plan.

As often happens, though, good things don’t last. With the latest update, all voices except two (the basic, robotic Windows ones) are now locked behind a subscription. Meanwhile, the other limitations remain: no OCR for free users, clunky sentence parsing, and the same reading issues as before.

At this point, I’d rather use Speechify. The free voices are comparable, but at least it offers OCR and reads text more smoothly. And if I were to pay for a subscription, I would still choose Speechify without hesitation.

A real pity — this change will likely cost them a significant amount of traffic.

They scammed me into thinking I had…

They scammed me into thinking I had signed up for this service with and email that said my subscription was paid. I usually ignore these but tried to sign in via the website. They sent me a verification and there is no place in there to cancel or view an account or subscription. How can you ever trust using a prduct if they start business this way.

No refund for trial as promised

They do not offer a free testing period, but promise to refund if you don't like it. I cancelled the subscription within an hour, but no refund. I waited to give them plenty of time to process. After enquiring I was told I exceeded the period to claim the money and was presented with a link where I should have done it. Of course that link was nowhere to be seen on the page the promise was made.

Read this before you click anything.

At first, the reader was awesome, just long enough to choose a monthly subscription and happily spend $20.80. Literally minutes later the reader would pause (que audio click) turn off, then back on after EVERY sentence. This isn't a practical way to listen to text even for a minute it's absurdly distracting. So in the end, I have yet to talk to a human, am out $20 bucks, and get FAR better reader performance with the 5 minute free version.

Bunch Of Lowlifes

If I could, I'd give it a 0 star cuz i was so furious at this greedy website 10 mins ago. A "FREE Text to Speech" website gives you a PAYWALL as soon as you try to download the mp3. MF that's not FREE, but i can tell you what it is, scummy.

Worst Customer experience ever!!!!!!!

First, I pay almost $30/month for this 'service'. This is the worst customer service I have ever seen. The way TTS is consumed is created to confuse you and make you spend all your points if you don't take a word doc, and put into notepad first... ridiculous.

Next, I put a fill in the chrome extension... it then went onto not read my writing back to me... but it did use all my TTS(text to speech) points though!!! Everyone of them, all 500,000 characters, and it read 2 minutes and then died!!!!!!

Next, I get pissed and contact their AI chat bot... this thing says there's nothing I can do, they will not give me points back, and I can go kick rocks.

So I beg for an hour to speak to a human... of which the bot says, someone will be right with you, and no one ever came.

So after I cooled down. I researched the TTS consumption... figured i'm only out of pro voices for the day, I contact my AI bot and tell them to NOT cancel my subscription.

Then, this morning, guess what. I'm excited to get to work, and they cancelled my subscription!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you kidding me!!!??????

So through no fault my own, these garbage humans ruined 2 premium work days.

I can't stress how much I absolutely despise this company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friendly customer service, but...

I hate to complain because the customer service started out nice and friendly. But service has deteriorated over the last year. Sure, there were some glitches, but the voices were great for the most part and worked well and there was a wide variety.

The problem is the voice search function. It seldom brings up the voice that I am looking for, and the problem has gotten much worse over time. The search option apparently filters based on categories that are hidden in search mode -- so you never know if you're searching with the appropriate filters. Besides, they should let you search without filters.

There are many voices that are technically foreign but which speak English too, often without an accent. Yet to make them appear in search, you apparently have to remember what their original language was. Likewise with English voices -- it may be English UK or English OTHER or English Australia, and it sometimes won't find voices unless you know which one. For the most part though, it just does not find or list all the voices anymore, even though the number of voices has grown enormously.

And there is also a set of categories like "Trending now," that appear to be filters, but there is no way to say "search everything." So it is totally unclear what the search is looking for when I type in a voice name. Is it limited to "trending male voices" and "English UK" or is it ignoring the trending category and set -- unbeknownst to me -- to English US? -- and does it make a difference? It's impossible to tell and the staff does not seem to know either. Unless there is a big improvement, I will have to go elsewhere before my year contract expires in April 2026.

This problem may be less apparent to those who aren't trying to use the same voices consistently for a variety of projects, but it's become so hard to find a full list of voices and to find a given voice by name that I surely can't be the only one having problems.

If I could give a negative I would

If I could give a negative I would. It states it is free and touts the voices are "natural" sounding....only if you subscribe and that is a paid option Pro or Plus and even then some of the voices are mislabeled and or sound odd. For example "Nancy" is very obviously a male voice- deep and masculine.

Started out great, now horrible bad. Dont buy!

This is one of the few software's that gets worse over time. Worked perfectly fine when introduces but since then it's just a waste of money. Don't work on my new Samsung s24 (can only read 1 sentence then goes quiet) - when discussing the issue with customer service, they give wrongful instructions for older phones and stops responding when they don't have a predefined answer. Also, when reluctantly using it on my computer, half the documents I upload is read letter by letter instead for word by word, and that's just sounds horrible and takes much longer then just reading the text manually. I regret coming back badly, and when I try to get my money back (as I can use it for half my documents and only on computer) they stop answering. So big warning, don't waste your money or time. Find a solution that works and that have an actual customer service that answers properly.

Scammed my money

Scammed my money, I paid for a whole year of subscription at once, and I unsubscribed for the next payment mid way but my remaining sub time is also gone. The money I paid was still for 1 year.

Terrible Customer Service/Pronunciation Issues

For the most part this app/website works ok. There are some pronunciation issues I've encountered that cannot be fixed (saying a "g" in a word as a "j": reg vs. rej). I'm not giving the app/website a 1 star, I'm giving the customer service 1 star, but they definitely deserve 0 stars. I have reached out multiple times with no response. I'm not sure what I'm paying for if I can't get the reader to pronounce words correctly and no one from "customer service" is available/cares to help.

The best text to voice online, free version I have found ....

I started using another service and it took hours to read and put downloadable MP3. Natural reader done the job under 3 minutes - the voice I chose was PERFECT (there are so many choices). I have used the free version and I will definitely upgrade. Amazing service to reach the best outcome I needed. User friendly to... 20 0ut of 10, seriously. Thank you
