Naim Nait 50

Bought a Nait 50 from What You See and Hear. Excellent little amp.

Additionally, my 50+ year old NAC 12 and NAP 160 were serviced by Naim a few years ago and the result was well worth the investment. Also used Naim Technical Support in the past who were very helpful in identifying NAXO crossover values for 40+ year old speakers.

Alas, Not Fit for Purpose

I rarely give extreme scores because there is always nuance to be considered. This short review concerns only the 'Naim App'. Other reviews are similarly negative and, despite my being a long-standing Naim aficionado, I can only add to them.

It is my considered opinion, as a former professional software engineer, that this product is not fit for purpose. This cannot be incrementally resolved. It demands a complete ab-initio redesign. It is the assumptions and principles accepted in its design that are fundamentally and profoundly flawed.

I suspect the writer has little insight into the myriad failure conditions intrinsic in maintaining real-time synchrony between two different boxes over radio.

Someone in California once said that hardware companies can't write software. He was right. It's easy if you plug them together with a piece of wire, isn't it, folks? Life's easy when nothing goes wrong.

Good software is 20% about features and 80% about surviving, transparently, in the real world.

The above naturally precludes any point in my commenting about the GUI or aesthetic capabilities.

Faulty product & rude customer service

I purchased a Naim Muso based on product reviews and the brands (supposed) quality image. Just after the product went out of warranty, it stopped working. I returned the unit to the retailer who in turn sent it back to Naim. Upon investigation Naim returned the unit stating ’no fault found … however the unit still failed to power up (a fact supported by the retailer) and was returned again to Naim. This time they acknowledged a fault, charged me £250 to replace a ‘board’ and sent the unit back. Five weeks later the unit stopped working again … I have sent it back stating (reasonably) that I would like a replacement unit or a refund. Naim have simply refused and stated we will repair it again… in total I have been without a working unit for 8 weeks across all the to and fro. In my mind this is totally unacceptable for a ‘quality’ brand … add to that a rude, obnoxious ’helpdesk’ and I wish I had never bought Naim. My case may be an outlier but if that is so then they should being doing everything possible to resolve… be careful before buying this brand, I have been extremely disappointed.

Great support from helpline

I recently had occasion to use Naim technical support due to a problem I was experiencing when casting podcasts and broadcasts to my Naim QB2. Alex was very helpful and correctly diagnosed the problem within my home wifi network. As a result the problem was solved quickly and easily. This is the third time I have had occasion to ring the helpline, and each time they have been friendly and extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Apart from the great sound quality, it makes buying a quality piece of equipment worthwhile when you have backup like this.

Expensive devices with mediocre…

Expensive devices with mediocre software.

Active community forum with sections seemingly dedicated to men of a certain age, income & interests, covering topics on beer, lego, luxury cars and overpriced cabling and plugs. Sexist, mysogenistic and offensive toilet humour is well covered in a thread titled Best Jokes. Predictably, a new Best Jokes 2025 thread has a sexually themed cartoon as its opening offering.

Curiously any attempt to discuss the BBC attracts the ire of the moderator & will be ruthlessly censored. All in all, the community forum is a curiosity which hardly matches the Brand's aspirations to be a quality product.

In 2025 there are other & better served alternatives.

Mu-so 2 sucks

Bought mu-so qb 2 and Mu-so 2 as package from Richer sounds.
I love the qb 2 and hate its big brother, its all bass and no treble. Whatever setting I use and after 100s of hours running in it still sounds like a cheap bluetooth speaker, in that room i have reverted to a stereo pair of sonos 3s vastly superior, even though Im not a fan of sonos.

NO MORE NAIM!!

Unfortunately I am the owner of a Uniti Atom, A QB, and a Mu-So. We initially had problems with the app discovering the devices. This was eventually overcome by using WIFI extenders. After every update for the Atom we have had issues with discovery. Naim support takes forever to get back to you and seems basically ineffectual. The latest update stopped the discovery of the ATom but could still find the Mu-So and the QB. On contacting Naim support I had an automated reply giving me ticket no. 246464 and was contacted today with information on how to fix the problem. Having carried out the recommendations I can no longer discover any of my devices. I have been a big supporter of Naim for many years, but no more! And I am willing to face the wrath of my wife and writing off my investment in Naim and going elsewhere. The really annoying part is that I can get the ATom to work using the remote control but the options are limited and this means I have ended up with a very very expensive radio.

TERRIBLE technology

I have been using Naim for more than 15 years and now my NAC 172 XS isnt playing iRadio as it needs firmware updates. Lo and behold Naim needs a contraption to be connected to the computer to do it! How dated is this in the world of streaming and new technology? I am fed up of NAIM and their ridiculous technology lag. There seems to be no other alternative. Time to get rid of all my NAIM Streamers and DAC. Why cant the app do the update like everywhere?

Bathy Headphones Resolved Issue

Had an issue with a pair of Bathy headphones. I returned them to Focal / Naim and without any quibble I was given a brand new pair in return. Fantastic customer service, with great comms throughout the process. The new pair are performing better than ever, so I am one happy customer.

Big waste of time. If Naim decide to respond eventually, please don't waste more time. A clear answer to a clear question should not be too much to ask.

Exceptional customer service

Fantastic Service to all at Naim technical support.
I have been dealing with an ongoing issue with my Muso2, where the connection kept dropping. Despite receiving a replacement unit from Richer Sounds (which deserves credit as well), the problem persisted. However, after reaching out to the technical support team, I was thoroughly impressed with their responsiveness and dedication to resolving the issue. They took the time to listen, provide reassurance, and went above and beyond in assisting me. Ultimately, they identified the problem as an issue with my broadband provider (Virgin Media) router, which was something I had not anticipated. The level of customer service and support was outstanding, and I’m truly grateful for their help. If you’re looking for top-tier support, this team delivers at its absolute best.

Just spoke to help desk at Naim and…

Just spoke to help desk at Naim and found out that my product which cost over £2000 in 2016 is now a heritage product. Internet radio not available until 14/02 due to technical issue/licences which was all over my head. Would think very carefully about purchasing this product. Probably better off with Amazon Alexa.

No access to radio

No access to radio Spotify works I have a muso and 2xQb I have done restarts a deleting app as per online hints but to no avail. Assuming (if that’s allowed) it’s the app and ongoing difficulties with iOS. Tried using mobile to play but no joy either

Since purchasing my Naim muso gen 1…

Since purchasing my Naim muso gen 1 about six years ago it has been one disaster after another! When it works the sound is excellent but the main issue is with the app! It works fine on tidal but now cannot find any internet radio stations whatsoever! None of the preset radio stations will connect and even the search facility for all stations has vanished. I see on apple the app has appalling reviews which Naim needs to get to grips with! I have tried all the online troubleshooting guides but still no radio! The same thing happened a few months ago and I lost my radio for weeks. Come on Naim sort the app out once and for all. For a very expensive high end unit this is totally unacceptable.

Service above and beyond!

Having moved house I discovered we had lost some of the spike covers for wood floors and the owners booklet that came with my Focal speakers when new.
Since Focal is now represented in the UK by Naim I contacted their Technical Support and they could not have been more helpful!
Even though my 816 SE speakers were long ago discontinued Jordan managed to track down some of the original plastic covers and as an act of goodwill forwarded a set of 4 to me free of change along with a link to the defunct Owners book PDF for me to print.
Apart from the fact I wouldn't change my Chorus speakers for anything available now, Naim/Focal after sales service is definitely second to none!

Courteous and competent support

My technical issue was particularly complicated, involving a NAS made by a different company, but Naim never tried to back away. Ultimately, Naim connected me with a senior software engineer and together we resolved the problem. It turned out there were two contributing caused to the problem - one with the NAS and one with the Naim firmware. Naim was persistent, courteous, and highly competent throughout this experience.

Purchased two Naim Muso 2 devices.

Neither connect to the wifi. No instructions beyond follow the steps in the app.

This is clearly a long standing issue with their equipment as the forums stretch back years with the same problems people have experienced - plenty of time for the designers to iron out these matters or provide comprehensive guidance step by step so that people can get it to work.
