Old school Family feel!!!

Old school Family feel!!!

I'm 46 and got to a point in my life where I felt I needed to enjoy a midlife crisis and get my motorbike licence.

After speaking to some friends they told me about BMW's superb 0% interest offer on a brand new F900 R. So after doing some searching to find a garage for me, I came across Motorrad in Dalkeith. I drove through and was helped by Neil (Sales). He was brilliant and just a real enthusiast, but appreciated that I was a complete novice with no experience or idea what I wanted or needed. He took hours to chat with me about biking, the bike itself, got a model in the showroom for me to sit on and get a feel for. I left that day and wasn't sure if I wanted to commit.

After a few weeks the urge kicked up again and I got in touch with the garage. Unfortunately Neil was off on holiday and wouldn't be back before the BMW offer expired. That's when Grant (Boss man) took over and helped me out so much with everything. To the point we even found a better spec bike for me waiting to be built so I was over the moon. His communication from that moment on was outstanding and honestly, he'd reply anytime of day, any day.

Neil came back from his holidays and took over from that point on. I want to say that it didn't stop Grant keeping in touch to ensure all was as it should be.

Unfortunately after all the outstanding service and help I received from Grant and Neil, I bottled it and with 2 young kids decided maybe now was not the time to take up biking. So I felt absolutely terrible and had to cancel my order.

Now this is where I think some would take the hump and basically not bother anymore, but not Neil or Grant. When I explained my reasoning they both completely understood and said that when I was ready to come back. Also, the garage does a coffee / meet thing once a month and Grant had said I should pop through and join in regardless of having a bike or not.

I want to start off with saying this review is based on my experience and nothing else. I note there are some here that maybe have not enjoyed a similar journey but from what I could see, Grant is the type who would take these comments onboard and ensure it wouldn't happen again.

All I can say is give them a chance. It's a small old-fashioned Main St garage of a small town. Like those in the good old days. You will be made to feel priority and treated in a manner that you'd expect.

Thanks again for everything, Gents....

Avoid Dalkeith Motorrad

Where do I start, I always thought owning a BMW bike is premium bike and goes with premium service. However this is far from the truth.

My 1st Service with this dealership or rather stealership was my big one, cost over £500. After service was complete I was informed 1 of my spokes where a little loose, dont worry though because instead of them sorthing it out as part of the service qouted me over1k from them to be replaced. I declined and had another garage looked at it just as peace of mind. Found nothing wrong and passed MOT 3 days after that 2nd opinion.

2nd service was done on 12/12/25 and had 11138miles on, Jan 2026 came and warning amber light came on. I took it to dealership with 11183 miles on. They informed me the exhaust flap was stuck, but dont worry the hereos working at the dealership said the have to replace the headers as valve was part of it for the low cost of £1670. Again declined went for a 2nd opinion. Was told the exhaust flap is easily accessable and can be fixed without replacing headers.

So I bought copper grease of amazon for £8.99 and watched a youtube video on it. Problem solved and working perfectly.

They also said my brakes was fully seized from when i booked it in on 11138 miles to 11183 miles. This is when nothing got picked up on the service. Going to put a complaint in about that issue.

Last issue I had was when They put a software update down as a Amber fault on health check. When I asked why it was amber they assured me nothing is wrong with current software, so why not just put it down as green or not even mention it.

In conclusion, I would strongly advice anyone to avoid this dealership. I do believe there is honest dealerships but this is not one of them. Do your research and put elbow grease in. Charging £1670 headers instead of fixing the problem is just pure greedy and lazy.

No support for older BMW

I phone to get a price for a lot of work on s newly acquired 1150. I was told they do not support that model any longer. In these days when motorcycle dealers are closing all over the place it must be nice to be able to turn away business. Both glasgow and tayside dealers more than happy to do the work

Outstanding

I just been into buy my new GS and the service from Grant, Head of Business, Andrew and the after sales team was outstanding
I could go on about the way the dealt with me, their professionalism and how they spent an age qualifying my needs but there’s not enough time or space to go into that level of detail - outstanding doesn’t even touch the surface they are, in my opinion, deserving of their BMW Dealer of the year award
Thanks Grant and pass on my thanks to the entire team

Beware of Insured Warranty

Well sadly I have to give this lot 1 star as 0 isn’t an option. 2019 R1250 GS due a service and multiple recalls as BMW seem incapable of building something that actually works. Bike took months to get booked in due to Motorrad Dalkeith workload however a date was set and off we went.
I was initially called by Bob who told my paralever bearings needed replaced at a cost of £345. I pointed out the bike had BMW extended warranty to cover that. He then asked where I bought the bike from, I told him Sunderland (wonder why!) he advised the bike would need taken there for any warranty work.
I dug out my warranty documents and headed down and met Mike who advised there was no warranty showing for the bike. Now, to be fair that wasn’t Mike’s fault however despite me asking for him to call and check he didn’t and advised as the bike hadn’t been serviced annually warranty wouldn’t apply.
I went home called the warranty people who agreed it wasn’t on “the system” couldn’t or wouldn’t answer as to why but it would go through in up to 72 working hours. I then spoke to warranty claims (Lee|) about the service issue Lee informed me that if the part that failed wasn’t checked as part of a service (nowhere in the service book can I see paralever bearing check and adjust).
But alas no it’s not to be Mike has called Lee at warranty claims and produced this gem.
“The issue is that if the bearings do now require replacement, it stands to reason that if the bearings were inspected at service in 2022, or in 2023, the issue could have been rectified with re-greasing, rather than replacement.”
It no way stands to reason that if the bike was serviced on schedule the issue may have been rectified then. There is no mention anywhere in the service book of inspection of the final drive paralever bearing in any shape or form. The only thing up until the recent cardan shaft recall has been a final drive oil change.
Anyway I can’t be bothered with taking this further life’s too short. If BMW think that paying £800PA (£480 warranty that doesn’t include roadside and upwards of £300 for a service) is a good model they are wrong.
So beware, annual service and not a day over even if you only do 100 miles since your last service if you have insured warranty. That’s the rules and they are sticking to them just in case it costs a few quid.
So whilst Motorrad saved the cost of a bearing check and perhaps replacement they have lost a whole lot more, warranty cancelled today and they won’t see the bike or me again.
On a final note check your insured warranty is valid, having travelled in Europe I can imagine the nightmare of trying to sort it out on the road despite them taking your money every month.

More than happy.

I initially was going to give a lesser review, I’ve had a few issues with my bike since I purchased it 6 months ago. When I’d reported the issues the following day and week they were quick to respond. To get it back to them and they’d sort it. I wasn’t happy about me having to take bike back and leave it it’s almost 70 miles away, but as I’d injured my back, I’d said I’d take it when able. I finally arranged for it to go in just before Christmas.they weren’t able to look at it till the new year not a problem can’t really use it with my back. I’d asked if someone could help me put it in van as I didn’t want to ask friends to take day off work as most were just back. When they said NO I was taken aback health and safety liability. I was so annoyed, thinking I’d purchased two bikes and no offer of help was forthcoming, In my head I was fuming no sales in future for them. So I was totally in wrong frame of mind I was convinced I wouldn’t be happy with their work as I felt I should never have received the bike in first place as it was. Speaking to Mike I was blunt bordering on rude I was convinced I was going to have them keep bike and look at it again. Took it for a test I was a different bike I was delighted, and I sort of ate humble pie, Mike the service manager was polite and courteous as he had been all along I’d already written an email the day before slating them for that customer service. But let’s say they redeemed themselves, with a very generous gesture I won’t say what, and I certainly wasn’t expecting anything and I never asked, but let’s say I’m more than happy and I would have been happy just with the bike running the way it was. I can only say thanks to the company as a whole, and Mike who I dealt with. Will I buy from them again YES.

BMW Motorrad Edinburgh Outstanding Service ...

BMW Motorrad Central Edinburgh has outstanding service. After having repairs indicated by MOT advisories with another dealership in Scotland and then having issues there after. Mike Drynan and his team at BMW Central identified and fixed these potentially lethal problems. I have been kept informed, updated and consulted around repairs and their associated costs. As motorcyclists we need to know that our machines are safe to ride. My Experience with Motorrad Central is such that i can confidently and safely ride knowing that every aspect of my motorcycle has been looked at.
Thank you
