Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 30 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people reported significant product durability issues, with stitching coming undone, soles failing or disintegrating, and boots leaking prematurely after only a few months of use. Consumers frequently felt the high price did not align with the actual quality or lifespan, leading to disappointment and poor value. Reviewers also expressed dissatisfaction with warranty processes, often finding claims denied or being charged for repairs. Conversely, a small portion of people felt some products were well-made, comfortable, and waterproof. These customers praised specific models for being brilliant, light, and grippy, performing excellently even during extensive use.

Paid high price wanting to try them on.

My rating is not based on the shoe quality but on the service and experience with shipping.
Be warned that you may pay a high price for trying on their boots. I had mine shipped due to no physical shops near and wide. I send them sizing images (as they advertise on the website) and yet they send me a shoe almost 1.5 sizes too large for me and too wide. And I ended up paying $70 out of my own pocket for this experience. As they include shipping ($25) in the price but deduct it when you want to return them from the refund, and they charged me almost $30 for processing fees, and then I payed another $17 for return shipping (note they charged me more for their shipping here then the post charged me for retuning it). I think thats a bit stink from a company that has no physical stores. And they offered to cover cost if I buy another shoe, but at that point I was too scared this would result in more cost if I in the end don't like the shoe. I inquired about cost heavily, but they are quite sneaky about making it all sound much less by not stating the actual costs clearly.
Good tramping boots need to fit, and need to be tried on, and this is way too inaccessible with them.

I’ve had my Bhutan boots for 9 years…

I’ve had my Bhutan boots for 9 years wearing them every week, Last time I wore them in torrential rain and puddles was the first time my feet were wet.admittedly not waxed them after the last few walks. Very comfortable boots.

Declining quality

I have had several Meindl hiking boots over the years and they have steadily gone downhill in quality. My current pair of Bhutans have lasted 14 months and the layer of the sole between the outer sole and the leather upper has disintegrated.

designed to leak

Don't waste your money, premium prices for poor quality footwear.

Started leaking bang on 12 months into using as a set of winter boots, a quick call to meindl customer services to be told the inner lining wears out after "some time" and they will leak.

Apparently the inner liner breaking up in this time is considered normal. And no matter what treatment you apply to the boot outer will not prevent this.

Highly recommend you steer clear of this brand as you will need a new set every year to keep dry

I'm really struggling to leave even 1…

I'm really struggling to leave even 1 star!!
A pair of GTX (NOT CHAEP)Less than a year old and not even 60hrs of being worn and they're letting in more water than a teabag. If you contact the company they do everything in their power to make sure it's your fault with phrases like "oh you must have torn the gortex"... sorry guys but gortex is super strong so unfortunately it's your lack of quality control!!
Stay well clear of them.

I loved my miendl boots and our family…

I loved my miendl boots and our family were loyal to this brand for many years. Sadly my current pair have lasted only over a year and now let in water.
We heard - tho unsure if it’s factual that they had changed their factory/ manufacturing process and since then the quality was sadly lacking. Am having to buy another pair of boots and for first time it won’t be this brand. Am sad about that.

Boots started leaking after 6 months

I purchased a pair of Meindl leather boots at a cost of £180:in December. I did not wear my boots until march. In June of the same year, 3 months later, the boots leaked like sieves when walking in heavy dew or pouring rain. Having returned the boots I was told that it was my fault as the lining had rubbed on my big toe. I have never had this problem before. To my mind the boots are not fit for purpose. I was not give a replacement or refund and now have to wear waterproof socks, buyer beware!!!?

Buy at your peril

Buy at your peril! I fell for the German quality label and ended up after 15 months with a sole hanging off and severe cracking in the leather which rendered all hope of impermeability. I would add that the boots had been well looked after and treated with the recommended proofing wax. Bramwell - the UK distributor were unhelpful, implying that warranty conditions had been breached. I shall be taking up the matter with Miendl direct but, until then, don`t buy!

12 years of Meindl hiking shoes, I'm amazed

I've had my Meindl shoes for well over 12 years now and I do about 50 hikes a year in them, and I had to write this review just to say that after all these years, the boots only seem to be getting BETTER. The leather simply adjusts to my feet, the soles still look ok, though I might send the rubber (bottom) sole for a swap in Meindl maybe in the next season or so. So good.

Meindl boots s..., sole felt apart

It is pitty I have to leave at least one star to be able to write the review.
The boots are expensive to buy. For reward you expect some good quality product. And it is shame they are not. I wore this boots for less then 20 times and the whole foam sole which is between the leather boot and rubber sole fell apart in the middle of my tour. I was so dissapoitend with a guality. Please, be aware of that brand. It is not wort it to buy some expensive crap. I have been left angry and in shame by this brand. I can produce a pictures to prove my words.

The Meindl Bhutan - Expensive but poor quality

The Meindl Bhutan is an awful boot. The size is only for people with very narrow feet, otherwise they are like wearing painful clamps on your feet. I wore mine for a few days, before the rubber rand started coming away from the boot.
I contacted Meindl in Germany and their UK distributor, Bramwell, but they dont seem to care. Avoid.

Meindl Philadelphia stitching as come undone after 3 months

I bought a pair of Meindl Philadelphia (Ladies size 8) walking shoes and within 3 months of regular/daily use of approx 6 miles per day of just simply walking the dog the stitching around the toe has started to come apart. I shared photos with the retailer I bought them from and they told me to send them back at my cost for investigation and they could not indicate if i was likely to receive replacements or a refund. To send the shoes back I now need to buy another pair of walking shoes whilst a await a verdict and in the process pay for the postage of the failed shoes. However, I am reluctant to send the shoes away following the other reviews I have read and I will be looking for walking shoes that are up to the job. I originally bought Meindl as they are probably the most comfortable walking shoe I have owned which is why I am awarding them 1 star, unfortunately, the fact they are falling apart after 3 months is really disappointing and not representative of the quality I thought I was investing in. Sorry Meindl your quality does not match your price positioning.

German quality done wrong!

I've been a lifelong wearer of Scarpa boots (they just fit) but on the advise of a girlfriend whom had connections with the importer of Meindl I bought a pair of Bhutan, which were suposed to be the tip of the range. German quality...blah! Within weeks the boots started to degrade and are now just used for dog walking...in fine weather! Absolutely shocking build quality and not a patch on the Italian boots (not just Scarpa) will not be buying in to the Meindl brand anytime soon.
PS: never be fooled by the reviews you read in outdoor magazines as they are not as honest or as impartial as you think. The media don't do "bad" reviews anymore, because by doing so they would loose the advertising revenue from the companies they were pulling down, remember that.

Avoid buying boots from this company

I have some nearly new Meindl Asti Goretex boots that leaked.

The original company I bought them from (Trekitt, who are fantastic), asked me to return the boots to them to check them over. On inspection, Trekitt also found the boots to be faulty by letting water in. They gave me the option of a refund/a new pair of boots.

Because I found the boots comfortable, I asked for the boots to be replaced. Trekitt sent the boots back to Meindl for an exchange. Since then, Meindl have found zero issues with the boots and sent them back.

As always Trekitt have been amazing and have offered me a refund but really poor service from Meindl. Neither of us will be buying boots from them in the future.

I have just gone for a pair of Hanwag Tatra boots instead which seem to be great quality.

*****Please avoid purchasing these…

*****Please avoid purchasing these boots!!!****** I paid £240 for the Meindl Women's Bhutan MFS GTX Boots, what a huge mistake! They are so painful, rigid and not waterproof despite treating with beeswax after EVERY hike. I've had these for a couple of months now and was getting a LOT of pain in the sole of my foot and across the toes every time I wore them, I even bought some shock absorbing insoles but they are still so uncomfortable, I was almost in tears on my last hike so had to abandon after a few hours and return to the car. The customer service is nothing short of APPALING! Not even an offer of exchange or partial refund, very disappointing! I have since purchased a cheaper boot for £60 which have been absolutely fine and very comfortable straight out of the box, dont be fooled into thinking you get what you pay for, certainly not the case with meindl boots! 😣😣

Meindl respond gtx walking shoes
The shoes were 5 month old cost £140 and the soles were worn out and the heals inside came apart, rubbish to say they are WALKING shoes - only walked 5/6 miles 4 days a week. Customer service said wear and tear. The shoes are not made to last complete rubbish.

Meindl Bhutan mid-sole disintegrates

I bought a pair of Meindl Bhutan hiking boots from Go Outdoors in Oct 2020. 15 months later the mid-sole has disintegrated and pulled away from the rest of the boot. I returned them to Meindl (for their alleged 2 year warranty) only to have them sent back with a letter accusing me of mistreating my boots. I've only ever worn them to walk the dog and the boots have come into contact with nothing more insidious than grass, water and soil. I'd also kept them fairly clean and treated the leather with beeswax. They clearly have a defective mid-sole, which disintegrates when in contact with mud. If you need hiking boots for wearing around the house, they are perfect. I'd advise against taking them outside.

Useless customer ‘service’

Useless customer ‘service’. Listed 3 boots on their website in which I was interested but when I pressed them by email, finally admitted none were in stock and couldn’t provide any timescale for delivery. Is it that difficult to add a note to that effect on the website….
