Inconsistent information + expensive
Had a problem with my 50HK Evinrude engine. When turning the key, nothing happened, but after a few seconds 5-15, the engine started. Something wrong on the electric side, I assumed. I called M&F in Örebro and agreed on a day (Thursday) when I should bring the boat and engine, so they could have a look. I took the boat/engine to Örebro and went to the reception. There they ware surprised, "Did we promise to have a look at your engine today? We have so much to do"... But they promised to have a later and call back with a proposal what to do and a cost estimation. Nothing was heard that day, so the next morning, I called; "No we did not have time to look yesterday, but lets hope for today"... As we have our summer house on an island, I was a bit in a hurry to get my boat back, so I called after lunch again. This time with the surprising result that I should write a mail instead (!). The person on the phone did not know the status. So I write a mail and this was actually quickly replied, but with the same disappointing result, we have not had the time to look at the boat yet. OK, lets hope for Monday.... Now on Monday, a guy called, unfortunately with limited Swedish skills, while he started the engine with the same difficulties that I have experienced. Call ended with something like, "we will try to fix it...". Now after only a couple of hours, another person called, telling me the boat/engine was ready for pick up (!). No cost estimation and approval from my side... But I was happy it was fixed ,so I did not complain :-). Later I went to pick it up and was told the problem was the ignition lock. Cost would be 3.800SEK. Quite a sum for research and replacing the lock... But what could one do at that point...
M&F have significant potential to improve their work process and organization, the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. The only reason for not rating one star only is the fact that they actually fixed my problem :).
