Non-responsive to request for refund of cancelled booking

I made a reservation at a Londwell property via Booking.com and was immediately charged directly by Londwell for the full amount of £550. When I later cancelled the reservation I waited 2 weeks without receiving a refund. Subsequently emails and phone messages went entirely ignored and unanswered and I had to resort to Booking.com customer services to progress the refund.

Scam listing.

I booked "Londwell, Knightsbridge Luxury Balcony Penthouse" through booking.com in Feb 2026 for a few-days stay in Oct 2026. My credit card was charged shortly after making the booking. Closer to check-in date, I got a message with check-in instructions but with no details on how to pick up the key. But the property was non-responsive on check-in day, and I wasn't able to check-in. Had to scramble last-minute to find alternative accommodations.

After calling booking.com, the booking was cancelled as the property did not respond to booking.com either. But it took multiple messages and calls in the next 2 months with booking.com customer service before I finally got back a refund from booking.com.

THIS PLACE IS A SCAM

THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. We paid, got our check-in-email which did not have a code to get in. When we arrived we tried calling, emailing, texting to get a code for hours. We then called booking.com who we originally booked through- they tried contacting for a few hours. Then we got an email from Londwell that they could no longer accommodate us (this was several hours after our check-in time.) THEY WOULD NOT REFUND OUR MONEY. Booking.com tried for a few months to help us get our money returned and Londwell was unresponsive to them as well.

Complete scam listed in Booking.com

I booked with “Londwell” on Booking.com, and just like many other guests have reported, I never received any check-in information. The host became completely unreachable, no replies, no valid phone number, and no instructions before arrival.

After checking other reviews, it’s clear that multiple guests experienced the same issue, with stays never being provided and Booking.com unable to contact the host. Some reviewers even mentioned that Londwell may have ceased operations months earlier, yet future guests were never warned.

In my own case, I also contacted Booking.com for help but received no useful assistance, and the situation caused unnecessary stress before my trip.

This listing is extremely unreliable and should not be trusted.

Scam website

Scam website. Has taken almost £600 from me and will not respond to messages, emails and phone number straight to voice mail. Be warned, currently trying to recoup via bank.

Londwell and booking.com let me down but my bank is helping me

I booked an apartment with Londwell through the booking.com website in January 2025. The money was deducted from my credit card immediately with my stay being booked for October 2025. The day before my stay I messaged Londwell regarding the address and key info which had not yet been provided and got no reply. I called them and the number was disconnected. I then messaged booking.com and was advised they would contact Londwell. When I heard nothing further, I rang booking.com and they basically gave me the run around. I made numerous calls and sent a number of emails and messages to booking.com to try and sort something out. The staff were evasive and when I pressed them about a refund if the accommodation was not provided they were even more evasive with 2 staff members at the London Help Centre actually hanging up on me. To cut a long story short, Londwell seem to have gone bust or be a scam and the accommodation was never provided.
Booking.com are great when everything is good but when there is a problem they go silent. It would appear from the other reviews in this chain that booking.com were aware of the issue as early as August 2025 and have removed Londwell from their website but they did not advise other booking.com customers like myself who had future bookings with Londwell that there may be an issue. At all times in my discussions with booking.com they simply stated that they would try and contact Londwell despite it seeming that they knew that that was not possible. To add insult to the whole process I was asked by booking.com to review the accommodation even though they knew it was never provided.
I was very fortunate to be able to book 3 nights accommodation for a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night directly with the Mercure London Paddington at very short notice and I had a lovely stay there. Well done to the Mercure. I would certainly stay there again.
When I returned to Australia I contacted my bank and they have been able to secure a permanent credit back to my credit card account.
If you have been caught up in the Londwell issue, having paid by credit card, with accommodation not provided and it is within a certain amount of time from when the accommodation was to be provided, you may be able to lodge a transaction dispute and get your money back. Your bank will have guidelines about credit card transaction disputes and timelines for lodging a dispute. If you can, have a go and you may be successful. Good luck.
As for booking.com, they well and truly get thumbs down.

Scam company!!!

As many have already stated - it’s a scam company. What makes it worse is that they advertise on Booking.com, which many consider to be a safe platfrom for booking accommodation. I was also their victim back in May. I booked and paid for an apartment in Canary Wharf for September. Two weeks before the date of arrival they have sent a suspicious message for checking in and I revisited reviews on Booking - there were many 1.0 ones and then I have also headed on here and Trip advisor and saw the exact same. They would cancel on people on the day of arrival and have never made a refund. Then I called Booking customer service (always call a LOCAL number, not an international support) and demanded a free cancellation and they eventually agreed and I’ve gotten a conformation email - that’s the most important step. Then all you have to do is NOT GIVE UP. Also I recommed conducting two proceedings at the same time - one with Booking (for refund because the booking was done through their platform and they are responsible) and the other one with your bank (for chargeback - it’s important to prove that service was never delivered and that you have a FREE cancellation). For me it took month and a half of calls and emails to get at least some compensation from Booking - refund in a form of a bonus that I can use when booking accomodations on their site. And after more than 2 months (on 21st of November) I actually got a full refund on my bank account as well - they managed to get money back through chargeback (I’ve also read that some people got their money within days with this process so I guess it depends on your bank). All in all it was a very happy ending considering I practically got two full refunds, but I’ve been so incredibly stressed back in September before my trip so I can truly understand how anyone reading these reviews feels. So I just wanted to provide at least some comfort - you can get your money back, but it will be a long and exhausting process. Please don’t give up, I cheer for you to get everyting (and more) back! :)

Booked an apartment in September for July 2026

I booked an apartment back in September in London through booking.com. Londwell took payment then last week I received an email saying it had been cancelled with no reason! Booking.com were no help whatsoever only saving grace was our trip isn't till July so we weren't out on the streets! I have tried contacting this company but no joy! My credit card company is now dealing with so fingers crossed I get my money back! Stay away from Londwell they're clearly scammers as I've since noticed the said property is back on booking.com for the same dates for a much higher price! STAY AWAY folks.. Just robbing c××ts!

don't trust them

We booked and paid for accommodation with Londwell. However, we did not receive the access code for the flat and were unable to reach anyone at Landwell. As a result, we had to book alternative accommodation at short notice. We have not yet received a refund. Do not book a flat with Londwell under any circumstances.

Now this "hotel" disappeared from Booking.

Booked via Booking in June 2025 for December with free cancellation option.
The money (1500eur) were taken immediately. As i had some doubts, i cancelled the booking in 15 min! But no money was returned. No answers from Londwell (via Booking messages/WhatsApp/email)
Booking customer service replied that they "wrote to hotel and asked them to return my money". And this never happened
After all, i made a request to my bank and only in October I received my money back. And only because the payment was made with credit card.
And now, the hotel is removed from Booking
All my messages are also disappeared
Very disappointed with Booking also. They did not make they own research before adding "hotel" to their system

Do not book with Londwell

Do not book any accommodation with this company (direct or via booking.com), they are a sham. They double booked the accommodation for us and left us with nowhere to stay (they even gave us access to an apartment already tenanted!), promised a refund plus compensation and then gone silent. They are just stealing money from innocent people, awful.

Do not book with them, scammers

Do not book with them. They are scammers. Booked and paid in advance, received confirmation a week before our due stay in September 2025. Only to arrive on the day to find we couldn't get in. Couldn't ring or contact them. Booking.com adventually got back to us saying the listing had been desisted and they weren't aware of our booking even though fully paid through them and confirmation was given a week before. Offered us a refund and 1 night stay somewhere close by. That never happened. The next email received was saying the booking was cancelled due to invalid credit card, which it wasn't. By this time it was dark we had nowhere to sleep in a country foreign to us. The closest vacancies were $1800AUD for 2 nights. This left us with no money but we had to stay somewhere. Again DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE

Wouldn't even give it one star

Wouldn't even give it one star. Just the same as others. I booked in April for September. They took my money and then cancelled a week before my booked date. They are impossible to contact and even though I spoke to booking.com's customer services who promised a refund I have received nothing a month later. Because I booked so early it is too late to claim through my credit card company. Avoid at all costs. I won't be using booking.com again either.

Scam Company

This group are complete scammers, doesn't help that they are active on booking site. Took my money in April for a stay in September and cancelled my booking with less than 48 hours until check-in. Automated messages and no answer to any of their telephone lines. Main telephone line doesn't work and mobile number goes to a voicemail. Wish I had read the reviews first - and I still dont have my £795 back yet!

Using scammer tactics, do not rent a place they manage

Complete lack of communication / response to my ever more urgent queries concerning my stay next week in an apartment in London, which Londwell.com had listed on Booking.com. Both phone numbers given - one prominently in the booking, another one in an automated message I received 5 days ago which sparked off my concerns - are not in service! No response to messages via Booking.com. Payment for this stay at the end of August was debited to my card within 30 minutes of booking back in April!
A little bit of research also leads me to the strong suspicion of fake positive bot reviews of their properties. Plus there already are lies in the headings - the apartment I've booked is neither a penthouse (3rd floor of 12), nor luxury (as photos and irl reviews proof).
Imo - Londwell will scam you, and booking.com does helps them do this.
