We had rented also for security reasons a Toyota Landcruiser, normally a safe car. - But unfortunately the spike tires were probably too old, then there were hardly any spikes to be seen any more. With a little luck we managed a few icy situations without accident, but it was definitely "not harmless"...

Second time we rent a Jimny in Iceland and second time with Lava Car !

We were picked up at the airport and transported to the car rental office to acquire the Tesla Model Y. All went smoothly. The car had a minor tire leak that was quickly repaired. The rental was for a week and we had no problems with the car. We will rent from Lava Car Rental again and we recommend the company.

It was our first experience in renting a car on our holiday and Lava Car rental has made it a breeze.
When we landed, we've made it to the pick up point (watch the youtube instructions video, its really helpful). Unfortunately, we must have just missed a pick up, so ive called on the number provided and were picked up 20min later. It's a 5min transfer to the office. There is a bathroom and coffee/tea.
Collection was quick. Car was immaculate in and out. We didn't purchase additional insurance and thankfully didn't need it. You receive 2 phobs for fuel discount: N1 and OB, but shop around as even with discount (about 3 krona per litre) it wasn't always the cheapest. If you exploring the south then Sefloss has cheapest fuel at OB with the phob. After that the prices only go up.
We had 4x4 Dacia (90%of cars in Iceland are Dacias) for the winter roads and it performed beautifully in a snow, on and off main road.
We drove a lot, there aren't restrictions on the km which if very useful as you will cover a lot of ground. We've removed all the rubbish, didn't need to hoover or wash the car, they do it for you. Our car had quite a lot of dirt due to the weather, but they didn't mind it.
Note: when you book and select drop off time, choose the very latest you would drop off as you will be expected to drop off within an hour of booked time or you will be charged for an extra day. You get transfer to the airport without any delay. Again, only 5 min.
Also, there is a petrol station right next to the Lava office.
You will need to return it with the full tank ( as it is given with the full tank).
We will be back and we will definitely use them again! Thoroughly recommend!

We rented a car in early March 2025; pick up and transfer back to the airport (at 2 am!) were as presented and promised. We did not have any problems, and that is also to be appreciated, since it means that the car was properly mentained. We drove through several days of snow storms, strong wind storms and icy roads.
We were happy to rent from a family owned business, and we will certainly come back when in Iceland next.

We had booked a Susuzki Vitara for 4 people for a week, but got a Susuzki S-cross, which was not a big problem just unexpected. The windshield wipers were shit and one of the doors was a bit creaky, but other than that we had no problems. Pick-up and drop-off of the car went smooth (within office hours), was just a bit difficult to understand where the shuttle pick-up location at the airport was, as it was not with all the other car rental companies, but by the departures drop-off.

Simple booking, reasonable price, exactly the right car (Dacia Duster) with studded tyres, quick pick up and drop off, would definitely use Lava again.

Car booked few months in advance with free up to 24 hours cancellation in case plans change. Great customer service - emailed few times with additional questions re insurance etc, every time reply with information asked. Easy pick-up and drop-off at the airport. Fast check in/out. Got free upgrade, happy with car and service. Defo would use again 😃

Very easy company to deal with. We chose the full insurance for our visit so no big credit card deposits or excess. Collection of car was quick and painless and great customer service. The car was immaculate, with studded tyres and very roomy. (Dacia Duster). We ended up arriving back late due to a road closure but the member of staff that served us was very understanding, gave us a free bar of chocolate and drove us straight away to the airport so that we made our check in on time. All in all a very good service from a well organised company. We will definitely use this service again when we come back.

One week with a 4x4 Duster : great. Easy pick-up and drop-off at the airport. Fast check in/out. No surprise with the price fully paid in advance.

We rented a 7-seater KIA for 4 days. We got along very well with both the car and the rental.
With 6 of us with three large suitcases (lifting only one seat in the last row) we had no problems with space.
The online check in saved us a lot of time as well as being very easy, fast and well explained.
We also appreciated all the infos and advice they gave us about Iceland and the discounts in stores and gas stations!
Already recommended to friends and when we'll return we will definitely rely on them!

car perfect and service good. We had some problems at the beginning in the airport finding the shuttle, but nothing serious. we have waited about 20 minutes both at check in and check out.

Good car and rental, only we have a delay and a not very clear communication in the pick up at airport, and we waited at 1 hour to located the right spot and go to the offices for rental cars.

We had a great experience renting a 4x4 car at Lava Car. The reservation process worked very smoothly. We received good and relevant mails prior to the rental with guides on how to drive in Island, what to see and a perfect video showing how to get to the shuttle. The car was in perfect conditions. Before returning we had a mail with guidance on how to return the car. There was no problem regarding payment 100 % according to the rental agreement.
We can highly recommend Lava Car and we use them the again.

The self pick up and the car were good. There was a small issue in the online check-in that was overcome with the assistance help through email. They were quick to reply. The only thing to better is the staff, at the dropout he was very grave and serious when eveything was ok with the car.
