I used the pools for swimming laps in the Long Beach CA area. But it is very hard to swim laps. People go from the Sauna to the jacuzzi to the pool…..more like a hotel pool….never showering in between and make it hard to find lanes to swim laps. They get very upset when you try to swim laps too. Too convenient that the pool, sauna and jacuzzi are all in the same place.

Best overall experience in years

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you’re looking for a gym in Arlington that truly listens to your goals, check out the LA Fitness at 2955 Glebe Road. The manager Pat Concordia and my personal trainer Chris took the time to understand exactly what I needed.

Chris is the best trainer I could ask for—motivating, knowledgeable, and completely focused on tailoring workouts to my specific needs.

This is my first week, and I already feel confident that I’m in the right place to build strength, endurance, and achieve my fitness goals.

The facility is clean, well-equipped, and has everything I need for both personal training and independent workouts. I highly recommend this location if you’re looking for a gym community that’s supportive and results-driven.

I called up the Valencia club and was…

I called up the Valencia club and was told that if I paid in full for the year that it would be $100 more than if I just made the payments monthly. This is not how you gain members. I will NEVER join one of these over crowded gyms based on the lies I am being told. Absolute disgrace

Dishonest business practices

They told me they would refund the annual fee because I only needed a short term membership and then later refused to do so. Their personal trainer was more than 30 minutes late to my free training session. They said they would reach out to reschedule and then never did. When I had to cancel because I was moving, they refused to let me because their manager was out of town for two weeks.

This was at the Roosevelt location in Seattle.

I’m writing this to warn everyone about LA Fitness and Deceptive Manager Dustin Richardson

I’m writing this to warn everyone about LA Fitness’s deceptive billing practices and complete lack of accountability.

In 2022, I signed up for a new membership using the same name and email I had used years earlier. What I didn’t know was that LA Fitness had kept my old, frozen account “active” and continued charging me $10/month for over THREE YEARS without any notice. That’s over $360 in charges for a membership I never used — and didn’t even know I still had.

Their system didn’t notify me. No emails. No alerts. Nothing. I discovered this myself while reviewing my billing history — and when I reached out to resolve it, the response was worse than the billing error itself.

I contacted their manager, Dustin Richardson, multiple times by email, fully explaining the situation and asking for a refund and a written record of all charges under my name. Instead of helping, he avoided the issue entirely, gave me vague non-answers, and then went completely silent. It’s now obvious that Dustin is either unwilling or completely unfit to deal with legitimate customer issues.

I gave them every opportunity to respond professionally. I waited. I followed up. I was ignored.

I’ve now filed formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the California Department of Consumer Affairs, and the Federal Trade Commission. I’m also working with my bank to dispute every one of these charges.

If you're a current or former LA Fitness member, I strongly suggest you:

Check your billing history for duplicate or unauthorized charges

Never trust that your account is properly canceled or frozen

Understand that management (specifically people like Dustin Richardson, in Santa Clarita) will not take accountability or help you

This company continues to profit off people who don’t even know they’re being charged — and they ignore you when you catch them. I’m sharing this so others don’t get burned like I did.

Manager name Jose

Manager name: Jose. He is in overland culver city CA location.
I’ve been a member of LA Fitness for years, but the management at the Culver City (Overland) location is a serious issue. I was working out with a family member when the manager approached us very rudely, without any warning, and even touched my friend while telling him, “You can’t train her here.” It was aggressive, public, and completely unprofessional.

We were not disturbing anyone, and I was working out under my own membership. This level of disrespect and public humiliation is unacceptable. Management should be trained to speak with members respectfully. I won’t recommend this location until this behavior is addressed.

The LA Fitness in Poway, CA

The LA Fitness in Poway, CA, was recently remodeled, which is great to see.

However, the ongoing lack of management and care for members is consistently poor.

Before the recent remodel, the lighting system in the aerobics/Yoga room was broken, and the lights could not be adjusted or turned off during Yoga. Anyone who has practiced Yoga knows that this is essential for truly enjoying a session.

Management has been notified numerous times and is now overwhelmed by the volume of complaints, yet they choose not to address the issue. They have informed employees who receive these complaints that there are no plans to fix the lighting, and when you complain on their website, they simply claim that the issue has been sent to the facility manager for action, but you never hear back regarding resolutions or see the problem resolved.

Ironically, they plan to refinish the wood floor in the Yoga room next week, which everyone knows is much more expensive than fixing the lighting. Their behavior over the years has been consistent: they show little care for customers or members, except when it comes to signing up new members and charging the monthly fees for poor service!

If by chance I see the problem resolved, I will come back and update this review.

As of 7/2/25, no actions have been taken to fix the lights so that they can be dimmed, like before, for
Yoga.

Aggressive sales, hidden fees, terrible gym.

Don’t trust this place with your money.

Trainers are $280/month (four 25-min sessions), but some times they are more like 15-minute sessions + possible hidden fees. You can get a free week trial before giving any personal information and enrolling, although, they will pressure you to give them all your information plus some other contacts you have so they can call them until they enroll. My friends were upset that I gave them that information despite I asked them, cause they were bombarded with calls.

Don’t enroll for an extensive period of time as there is no cancelation. Ask for deals, promotions, and discounts.

The first training sessions you don’t get to work out as they ask questions and talk. Welcomed with sales strategies where you have to pay upfront fees plus your last month of enrollment as a non-refundable-deposit. The WIFI is terrible and there is no phone reception, the LA Fitness app freezes every time.

My complaint is about LA Fitness' bad Account Closure practices.

My complaint is about LA Fitness' bad customer service and membership practices.

During/after Covid, I was on an inactive account, mainly because the LA Fitness website would not allow one to close the account - you had to go in person or send a letter and hope for a response (none received). You could not close/delete your account online or by phone - just the most inconvenient way possible. I talked to one of their reps online and he stated I had to go in person. And like many people after Covid, going to previous services and places was just no longer appealing or possible, so I needed to close my account.

In August 2023 - in prep for moving across town - I finally went in person (I am disabled and it was hard). I went to the front desk, asked for a rep, and the front desk rep said she could cancel my account for me. I waited for a couple of minutes, then she said it was done. There was no receipt or anything, and I thought the process was good enough.

Well, either she never cancelled it, or the system refused the cancellation, but it didn't happen. Because I was in the middle of a prolonged move with a lot of other details I didn't double check, I just trusted them.

I discovered in March 2025 that tucked into my credit card bill has been an $11.03 bill - had been since May of 2024. I had to get additional archived credit card statements to see that the charges never ended, and that LA Fitness took almost $250 from me, including one month in summer 2024 that was over $50. I contacted the Better Business Bureau and put in a complaint, and asked for a refund. Despite phone attempts, I never could get LA Fitness "live", and because the Front Desk didn't give me an actual receipt stating my account was closed, the BBB has finally closed the complaint without resolution.

I am giving a review like this because anyone who needs to end their membership had better get absolute proof, a receipt, and check their credit card statement for months afterward. LA Fitness does not want to let people quit, makes it hard especially if you are disabled, and won't follow-through with the process.

Contamination of hot tub

I had complain about the condition of the hot tub over the years and was told they will clean the tub up. This last time I was there they drain the tub but, the condition of the tub was still very dirty and the was appears to have a heavy green appearance like a Mississippi swamp. Brown stain build up all around the tub. This location is in Brooklyn Park, MN off of HWY 612

LA Fitness is pretty good value

LA Fitness is pretty good value. Machines and free weights are good, lots to choose from, it's rare that I have to wait. Most customers are nice. Staff are hit and miss. The cleanliness of the pool is my biggest complaint. There's always dirt at the bottom of the pool. I mentioned it to front desk staff. They said they would check, and that the pool gets cleaned once a week. No improvement yet.

Filthy

Filthy. Disgusting. Abhorrent.

I've never written a review online in my entire life. I don't really believe in them - I think people who write them have nothing better to do, etc. I AM MAKING AN EXCEPTION TO MY RULE. I hope this review goes viral.

How would you feel if you were changing in the men's room, and right by your locker, was a dirty, eaten BANANA PEEL. Like right in front of your locker where you were going to put your bare ass down to change. Know also this happened one week ago, by the same member, and you asked them not to do it, and they ignored you and did it again anyway.

Ok, now imagine that that same member did it all over again. Their slimy, dirty, banana peel on your bench, where you just came from work, wanted to work out, and not get whatever worm-ridden filth comes from this dirty eaten banana peel.

So then you ask this member to throw it away, they ignore you, and say "everyone eats bananas in this locker room", and refuses to do it.

And then you go to the front desk and ask what the policy is on having GARBAGE where people change, and they look at their co-worker and mockingly "bro-y" say "hey do we have a policy on this?" All the while everyone at the front desk smirking and mocking a customer who doesn't want to sit in scum.

And then you go back with the "manager" (not the real manager, those folks were apologetic and wonderful) to the locker room and they don't ask the member to throw away the slimy scum that is this other member's trash.

And then you ask to speak to the manager and they say:
"BRO do you know how crazy you sound? It's just a banana peel! You can go and sit somewhere else!"

And then when you call member services the "manager" says to the kid at the front desk: "CANCEL HIS MEMBERSHIP!" Twice.

I mean, come on , "bro".

Absolutely disgusting.

The only saving grace is that I called the national member services line and instantly got 4 apologies with people who obviously recognize that no one want to sit their genitalia in someone else' garbage.

Really?

They lie to have you sign up

They lie to have you sign up. 3x I was promised a guest pass for multiple weeks and so I re-signed on to an annual membership, and 3X it was denied when I tried to use it. The club also does poor maintance of its saunas and otehr facilities and the parking lots are targets for thieves as many have no security (cameras) in the lots.

SANITATION WIPES! Bring your own.

I used to go to Esporta. But i got fed up with equipment always broken down (all those employees. Yet no one would check equipment.) Then when they'd be "repaired" in days it'd be broken.
So i went LA Fitness on Canal street in Chicago. I love how all the equipment is maintained. Entering and exiting parking is at times challenging. DUE parking equipment failure(constantly) along with escalators that are not working just about several days of the week all the time.
It never fails. On their busiest days. They never have any sanitation wipes. You'd think in this day and age in places with a huge number of members rotating in and out all day. They'd be considerate?! It's 11am. NOTHING to use. Nothing to wipe off the greasy sweat from equipment getting on your neck, head, hair, elbows.
It's been like this ALL WINTER LONG. I found out it is some type of corporate policy. ONLY one pack per day or something like that. All i know is it's "No Bueno." Needless to say it pretty much ends your planned workout prematurely. Because if you look around. NO ONE IS WIPING DOWN THE EQUIPMENT (with what?!). So unless you desire to have the DNA of a countless number of perspiring others on you, come on in. (JUST BECAUSE IT'S DRY, DOESN'T MEAN IT'S STILL NOT THERE). You'd think they put a sign. (If we're out of wipes, please let the desk know.)
Would it obviously be a bother to them ? All in all. It's a good value to be a member. Just bring your own PPE.
