Good video, rubbish search /strava sync
In possession of a new TacX Neo bike so me and the wife are trialling apps with a view to annual memberships.
We're both of average experience and skill (numerous sportives and tours), so know what we're doing.
So Kinomap was next up. Signing on seemed mandatory, but it only gave Zip Codes on the address (so no user comes from outside USA then) and the birthday just had this month showing with the only option to change was a month back every time you pressed the back arrow. So that's 740 clicks for me? Er, no.
Onto the pzazz, you have to go back to the website to get the map, remember the name of the ride you've found and go into the app - why do apps do this. And the map never loads, not on new tablet or 2 year old phone, so that's rubbish.
No option for 'road feel' either
Looking then through the filters, seems good with length, difficulty, time, etc but results a little disappointing in detail - no map (just an opening picture) and searches revealed nothing in Corsica (OK, a little off piste) but one ride in South Africa?!
Starting a ride was easy, didn't need to download beforehand and all the stats neatly tucked into a corner.
Complete elevation journey across the top which is nice, but more on that on a minute.
Video quality excellent and no wobbling or shaking.
I found, though, the more the ride went on the more out of sync the change of gradients became - not too much, but irritating as I left the village and went up a steep hill only for the difficulty to kick in ten seconds later.
The elevation map; nothing to show how far left you have to go, not even a reminder of the total length so you can do some maths.
Whilst the gradient sections are mostly clearly marked, there always rounded off to the nearest digit for some length even when you can see subtle changes. E. g. It's 5.0%, 7.0% for the next mile and whilst a counter gives the time to the next counter, the rate doesn't seem to change no matter how fast or slow you go.
And then, at the end, it's the 'hunt the download to your device' game again.
Answer: back into website, access your ride and scroll all the way down to find your link. There was a link through the app but nothing worked.
TacX app has an immediate option at the end of a ride to download to your app
In short, good quality video and stats but why does the search and download always have to be difficult
