DO NOT do an instant cash offer

DO NOT do an instant cash offer on KBB, they give you the lowest ball crap offer and send that dollar number to every dealership in the area and you will be bombarded with calls, texts, and emails. I have blocked numbers and still gotten calls. There’s no way I can sell my car for that price and be able to purchase a functioning car afterwards. There seems to be a big disconnect between the cash offer and reality.

Stay away from Genesis of Cary

I will never purchase another Genesis after the horrendous experience I had with Genesis of Cary. From start to finish, their handling of my vehicle was unprofessional and unacceptable. They placed the back seat of my car on top of the vehicle and proceeded to run it through a car wash, which resulted in deep scratches all along the side of my car. I trusted them to take care of my vehicle, but they not only damaged it, they also refused to take any responsibility for what they did. When I brought the issue to their attention, I was met with denial and excuses, and they made it clear they had no intention of fixing the damage they caused.

Hoping for some accountability, I contacted Genesis corporate, believing they would intervene and address the situation. Unfortunately, that was no better. Corporate was unhelpful and just as unwilling to take responsibility for the dealership’s actions. The lack of care, customer service, and professionalism I’ve encountered throughout this entire ordeal has left a lasting sour taste in my mouth.

For a brand that markets itself as luxury and prides itself on quality, both in its vehicles and customer service, my experience has been the complete opposite. I’ve been left with a damaged car, a great deal of frustration, and no accountability from the dealership or the company. This entire experience has made it clear that I will never buy another Genesis, and I would strongly advise others to think twice before doing business with this dealership or the brand.

I have a regretting experience with KBB.

I have a regretting experience with KBB. KBB should have done a better job for the customers. Alternatively, KBB could admit prioritizing dealers, which is fine but its reputation should drop accordingly. If I google "KBB review" now, I can still see many positive words like "KBB is a trusted resource that provides consumers, manufacturers, and automotive dealers with reliable and transparent insights".

Not till very recently does I learn KBB valuation has multipe types, such as instant cash offer, trade-in value, and private buyer, and they are in increasing order. And popular Google queries, such as "sell my car", always go to the lowest valuation ("instant cash offer").

Albeit all requires same/similar input, unfornuately, KBB does NOT display the valuation of different types in a single query. This is indeed a very useful "transparent insight" KBB should have provided to customers so customers are more educated on the price spectrum when dealing with potential buyers, dealer or private. This can be more useful to less educated sellers (like first-time ones), who do not even know the existence of these types, and what it takes to sell higher.

By withholding these already available information, KBB is creating less educated customers and happier dealer: it helps dealer to buy cars at lower prices from less educated sellers. This practice doesn't match its reputation IMO.

Don't bother with the "instant cash…

Don't bother with the "instant cash value" it is worthless when trying to get a fair offer from a dealership. Surprisingly, my KBB "trade in value" was 20% higher ( in my case $4k) than the instant cash offer. Why would that be if the dealer is simply going to mark it up to resell in both cases? When I asked this of one dealership responding to my KBB cash value, he replied "we don't use KBB to value cars". Yet they responded to my instant cash offer from KBB? and on that dealers website they proudly show how much their used car prices are below KBB values? I guess they only use KBB to low ball paying sellers for cars. I called KBB with the same question, and they couldn't answer the question.
It seems that KBB conspires with dealerships with this "instant cash value" tool, so don't think KBB is a worthwhile resource to sell a car, they put dealerships first.
Don't use the ICV, it's not a fair representation of your cars value.
I guess the old "used car salesman" bs reputation has gone corporate.

I was just trying to check the value of…

I was just trying to check the value of a car that was for sale on Facebook Marketplace so l put the cars information into kelly blue book, they shared my information with every car dealership in Silicon Valley, l was swamped with calls from dealerships. It was like locust swarming around my cell phone, not to mention the massive amount of email messages. Never again will l use this service.

The original blue book of 14.9 dropped over 5k

The original offer was 14.9. They game me 9.5 because of scratches and dents that you couldn't see inless you was right up on it. They also took money off for a step up that was a add on i had installed. One had fallen off and was in the truck bed. It just needed a few nuts to put back on. It wasn't factory. They didn't know that or even that it was in the truck bed, that's how good they look at it. The boss took it for a ride. He wouldn't look at me or Acknowledge I was even there. Very rude. I had a car starter that worked with the Chevy app installed. The app shows diagnostics. They weren't interested in looking at the information on the app or the fact it cost 800 to put in. There going to charge extra for the step ups and car starter that wasn't factory but didn't want to give me anything for it. They did happily knock off over 5k for Scratches and small dents on a 2018 4 wheel drive truck that has no other problems. I was in situation that I had to sell and the took full advantage. DONT BELIEVE THE OFFER YOU GET. go somewhere that's honest. Worst experience at a dealership I have experienced. Nothing else comes close

Not what they once were

Attempting to do research on used vehicle pricing but soon realized they are now just a marketing funnel for dealerships.

I would not listen to what kbb values…

I would not listen to what kbb values your car at. They low ball the crap out of you. I bought my car for 49000 dollars. This car is immaculate with low miles. These dirtbags gave me a value of 9800. Without seeing the car at all.
I take it to car max and guess what it’s worth 14978. No wonder the car market is like it is. These people lowball everyone. BY PASS THESE RIP OFF ARTIST!!!!

You won't get what KBB promises - a ripoff!

Their fine print says: "the Offer amount may be decreased. Kelley Blue Book and its affiliates are not responsible for Offer adjustments or if a Participating Dealer won't accept your vehicle. Dealers pay a fee to participate in the Kelley Blue Book Instant Cash Offer program." Fact: when I arrived at the dealer, without even seeing the car, the first thing he said was that his actual price would be substantially lower! And he was right! It was about 25% lower than the KBB promise!

KBB Insta Cash Offer - UNLESS YOU ARE DESPERATE

All KBB does for a Insta Cash Offer is lower the value of the car to a price that is extremely attractive to dealers. It’s the “I am desperate” price. Adding insult to this, you have to go to the dealer where they find every reason to lower the price further. Stay far away from this scam. If you can find a family member, friend or just anyone you remotely know sell the vehicle to them at a great price (but higher than KBB Insta Cash Offer) you will feel good about it.

Service is reducing trade-in prices

Service is reducing trade-in prices. It used to be that consumers trusted KBB to help them determine the fair trade or resale value of a car. Now, what KBB does is provide obscenely low cash offers AND broadcast those obscenely low offers to every dealership in your local area. As a result, you not only get spammed by every dealership, you also lose out on fair offers for your car because ALL of these dealers know that KBB sent you with an obscenely undervalued offer, so they can offer you one or two thousand above that - or even less than the KBB offer - and appear "generous" when, in fact the trade-in value of your car was much higher. Reported this to the FTC.

In my case, every other "Book Value" service valued my car at several thousand dollars more than KBB. I also checked around on the used car prices and private seller sales prices of the same model car - again several thousand higher than KBB.

Pretty unhappy that I can no longer get…

Pretty unhappy that I can no longer get the value of my used car....JUST FOR ME. The idea that I want to be solicited with offers is INCREDIBLY invasive. Do not FORCE me to receive solicitations. This practice completely devalues your site. I also want to point out that after completing a review on their site....I COULDN'T POST it. I guess my low star rating was something they didn't want to be seen. REALLY disappointing. It makes me no longer trust their valuations...clearly they sold out for ads and leads.

KBB customers are the most uneducated…

KBB customers are the most uneducated people ever. Stop complaining about the calls that you are getting from dealers when YOU provided the phone number. Excuses like "I did not know that they will send my information to multiple dealers" are plain stupid especially when there are multiple places on the KBB offer that states that you WILL be contacted by dealers, including in the Terms and conditions at the end that KBB REQUIRES to click on to make sure that you read them! Also DO NOT mark your car as perfect when it is not! 99% of the complaining customers here misrepresented their cars drastically and love to complain when the dealers find out their lies and shenanigans. Play stupid games win stupid prices....
