Bought my daughter a Maverick quantum2 …

Bought my daughter a Maverick quantum2 flux for her birthday a few weeks ago. Within the first two runs (on a flat grass surface ) the center ring in the front differential is grinding and missing teeth. Poor quality control and materials from HPI. Unfortunately because I purchased it 30 days prior the return period was over. When I reached out to HPI regarding installing shims to keep this from happening in the future they obviously didn’t want to deal with it and just did not respond. On further research, it seems that they send out improved parts to a select few 🤷🏻‍♂️. Guess we’re not good enough despite spending the money on their product.

Relitavely satisfied, but not on every aspect of the brand.

I have owned a first gen Trophy 3.5 bought in 2012 and a Maverick Strada MT bought in 2016.
When it comes to the trophy, I do not remember it being very expensive, probably like 300EUR or even less when bought.
The build and material quality seems pretty good and am satisfied with it. It was bought in 2012 and is still well running very well today for an 11 year old model.
I did have to replace the engine once which is normal for an old nitro.
When it comes to the "lowcost" brand Maverick which HPI owns, I have had nothing but problems with cheap quality plastics of the Strada MT I have, and the fact that at the time they used HXT plugs for ESC's and Batteries which is a good thing they switched to deans now since it was almost impossible to find decentley priced batteries with HXT connectors.
I hope their Maverick products have gone up in quality since then even though it is a possibility that their Maverick brand products are just rebraded by the chinese company HSP Racing which are known to be quite poor in terms of quality since all parts are compatible, however I can not confirm for sure that Maverick are rebranded HSP Racing models.
For the last note I have to admit that genuine used parts for HPI products are highly overpriced. I recentley had to to buy a universal front drive shaft with rotating joint and only a pair was possible to purchase at an insane price of 45EUR. I can understand that HPI Racing would like to consider themselves as a luxury brand but they have to understand that some of their prices are clearly unreasonable.

Worst car to work on

Worst car to work on. Every bolts are overtightened, and round off SUPER easily as if they are made from butter. I was trying to install few upgrades for the RS4 Sport 3 straight out of the box but eventually threw out the chassis before even I drove the car. So I gave another try with the same chassis, spending same amount of money but failed again. Diff case screws rounded off when I was trying to install spools, carbon shock towers did not even fit properly (you have to force it into place), and carbon underbody driveshaft cover is totally out of size. I was getting fed up with the screws rounding off. Out of the box, it looks promising, but if you are trying to upgrade the chassis, spend that money somewhere else. You will not even be able to install them.

Not happy with my experience

Bought a ready to run electric model and straight out of the box the charger was faulty. No good when I've bought extra battery packs too!

Emailed customer services and they asked me to make a warranty claim with the retailer.

Fair enough that seems like a way to solve it but on the basis this was a gift it caused some upset on the day.

Not sure what quality control is in place and I was disappointed with it on this occasion so will avoid this brand based on my experience.

Maybe others have had better.

Make sure you have your own tools!!

Decided to buy an hpi maverick quantum flux r after buying a few other of their cars..the one thing that let's it down is that it does even come with any sort of tools or even a socket to remove the wheels! To be honest I thought it would of come with something considering how fast the tyres wear down.

Purchased 2 maverick quantum’s at Xmas. Have blown multiple spur gears and differentials since then and have pulled it apart and back together I couldn’t tell you have many times. Both are now in bits, I refuse to spend more money on them.

February 2022 purchase the Savage x nitro. Nothing was setup from factory correctly, throttle linkages, steering, failsafe etc. Screws stripped installing engine brace, car has run away once. Biggest issue is slipper clutch has slipped on the 6th tank stripping the spur gear.

Not very happy at all.

Do not buy HPI, it should be their catchphrase!

I purchased an HPI Trophy 4.6 over a year ago and I still cannot use it. It constantly fails to run or even pull away without stalling (I've run it in by the book), cheap quality parts and poor build quality from this company. I also have a 10 year old HPI nitro car and never had any issues from day one. Its no wonder they had so many owners with such poor products.

Hpi quality isn’t what it use to be

I’ve been racing nitro rc for more than 20 years now. I’m on my third savage 1/8 truck. The first two were absolutely rock solid but can’t say the same for my latest purchase. Steering servo was severely underpowered for the tire size and needed to be upgraded to a savox....Add another $80 straight out of the box. Got about 10 hours of run time then the roto start failed. Spoke with an authorized dealer and was told Hpi isn’t the same quality they use to be and they aren’t charging less for their products. Too bad management is going towards cheap parts for greater profits.

Replacement Parts Are Never Available.

You will never be able to order the low quality parts that these cars are made of because the company has changed ownership 3 TIMES! Parts are back ordered 6+months. The parts are poorly made. So when you do finally get parts after 6 months of waiting, another part will undoubtedly break, and you will be waiting another 6 months for that part.

DO NOT BUY HPI!!

Outstanding customer service and…

Outstanding customer service and warranty.
Only took one week to resolve a problem with my bullet flux. No quibble they just replaced everything that could have caused it.
The tech team are really easy to talk to.
Three days after I posted the parts to them I gave them a call expecting them not to have looked at them yet and the guy took my name and said, one of the parts was faulty but we are sending all new parts. I received brand new parts two days later.
Amazing.
Thanks for the help and support.

I have been loyal HPI Racing 10 years…

I have been loyal HPI Racing 10 years now and never had any complaints . When I first started I first started out I bought HPI Savage 1/10 scale Electric with the brushless motor and ECS and was so excited and happy with our product that I had bought two more. Which let me also to purchase more products from the company because your product has integrity it lasts a long time. This message and email is more of a complaint than anything because I am starting to report that after spending $500 on the HPI vorza and doing everything correctly Slide the book that is provided with the RTR vehicle that I have gone through clutches flywheels Spur Gears Motors and worst of all the ECS I am a homeless veteran of Iraqi freedom who has recently On My Feet Again financially enough to put me and my only daughter in a hotel room. I'm also sadly recording that I cannot afford to fix the car that broke 3 days after I have had it and allowed the three cell batteries to charge completely because time-lapses between work any free time the race. I would really appreciate it if you could send me some coupons for an electronic speed control for the HPI VORZA FLUX as well as the dog bones and driveshaft and also a left wheel CV joint but the dog going into. I would love to represent your company and I always spread the word about HPI and yesterday being June 15th 2018 spoke to some gentlemen who we're in the parking lot racing and they were interested buying some leftover Parts I had leftover. Call me back and let me know what you would be able to do for me if anything at all I would like to stay with HPI and sponsored by HPI in the future because I take this very seriously. I only race Electric. My phone number is 732-264-5549 or 732-670-4118. I have purchased the voice directly from Tower Hobbies including my Savage 110 scales. With one exception of purchasing a Traxxas for my older father so he and I can have a Father's son Hobby. Thank you for your time and your daughter until we speak again, sincerely Stephen Francis Murray. My address is 109 Park Avenue Union Beach New Jersey 07735

Don't Buy HPI if you care about any support or warranty, I bought a HPI Sport 3 Drift, wrong parts inside, HPI telling me lies to avoid fixing problem

OK, so i bought a HPI sport 3 drift (Brand New Sealed).

I went to my friends house to adjust the gear mesh as a pre-caution not to damage vehicle internals. I noticed that my ESC was different to my friends (Bought the same rc i did).

I messaged the seller on ebay who said the car had the correct parts and if i didn't want the car to call the distributor, which i did.

The distributor was very helpful. He spoke to HPI who said the first batch of cars came with that ESC (SC-15WP which is from older model) and that it should have that in the manual i get with the car. I checked the manual and the ESC is suppose to be a SC-3SWP2 which is the same model that is listed on the HPI website.

This will be the last HPI product i will ever buy as there is NO Support at all even when bought new.

HPI customer service gave me bad/expensive advice in the Fall of 2014 & 19 days later they totally denied it (& didn’t care about me as a customer)!

RC cars/trucks break. That’s part of it. That will cost you money. You’ll also probably end up buying upgrades/enhancements to make your RC car perform better. That can cost you a lot of money.

If you are considering buying a new RC car, choose a better company, such as Traxxas. HPI is only interested in taking your money, even if that means giving you bad advice to get you to spend more. Don’t be fooled; don’t waste your money buying into the HPI scheme. Once you invest, they only operate on their own terms. They’re not concerned about whether you are happy. Traxxas does a lot more to ensure their customers remain happy after their purchases.

If you have already made the mistake of buying an HPI, do not call them for help. They will not even be accountable for the bad advice they give you, & some of that can be very expensive. You’d be much better off asking others for advice or searching the Internet. Once you invest into the HPI scheme, you’re trapped, but don’t trust them; they will lie to you! If you have the opportunity to upgrade to parts not made by HPI, you’ll end up much happier.

Bad Experience With HPI Support

Bought 2013 HPI Savage X 4.6 and started it up for idle break-in and the throttle trim on controller was set to full. Before I could kill the engine, the spur gear was ruined. I called HPI concerned what other damage may have occurred as the engine was not yet broken-in but I essentially had started it at full throttle unaware. They wanted me to send it back to them (would take weeks to get it back). I decided instead to replace the spur gear and if the engine showed no signs of damage, would keep it.

Everything was replaced and the engine was fine. Put two tanks through idle break-in, two tanks in figure 8 break-in and began my fifth tank to tune the high speed needle. I was getting better performance with each turn on the HSN, but never got the front tires more than 1/2'' off the ground as their tuning video showed full wheelie in similar tuning. Stopped the truck to assess any temps or issues. The temp was 270, but I wasn't even finished tuning. I tried to restart the truck after a cool down and the back plate just spun without engaging the piston.

I called HPI and again, they want the truck returned to them so they can repair it. They offered to send a new roto start back plate, but I knew the issue after opening it up- the spring was lodged into the piston and not pushing out the pin that connects to back plate and spins the piston. Therefore, it must be returned per their request.

I tried to reason with them that I had YET to even "play" with the truck. I had only 4 1/2 tanks through the engine and I had already wrestled with two issues that were not of my making. I had yet to put ME into any equation that would cause damage to the truck. I followed every suggestion and instruction by the letter, but had yet to enjoy the $500 purchase and now I wouldn't even SEE it for three weeks. They didn't care. Their policy is strict and would not be changed for any reason. I spoke to their manager and he said the same.

When I asked Arthur, the manager, why I had to return the product and not just receive a replacement, he said it was a strict policy and that it would not be changed. Once you open it, you have to hope that they made no errors. If they have made any errors, you are out of luck. They essentially have no risk in the sale for their manufacturing errors. They will fix the product and "make it right" as the manager said, but that isn't making it right. That is making a wrong right. What responsibility, then, does the manufacturer really have? What risk is in it for them at all to produce poor products and just fix the ones that come back to them? It makes you wonder what keeps them honest at all.

I also sent two emails to the company three days ago regarding issues such as missing DVD and filter oil that is listed as standard items in the Savage X 4.6 RTR product. I haven't heard from them. Nothing. No response.

It is a company that takes no responsibility for their product sale, but they say they will repair it while you wait weeks. They say you can send an e-mail and get a response in 1-2 business days, but that was a lie as it has been three days and I haven't heard back from them. They are not held accountable by no one. If you don't like it, they don't seem to care.

I will return with any updates in my experience. If they fix the product, I will report what they had done, how well they did, and I will give an honest review. I want to love the company, but I question their policies. I have heard great things about their customer service and their products. It is why I bought from them in the first place. I just thought that people needed to know my experience with them.
