No Notification of Shutting down my Website - Homestead Network…

I have been using Homestead Network Solutions since 2010 for my small business. Recently, I became aware the website was not working via a client. When I went to log in to my account, I received a notice the account was closed. My account had been on auto pay so payments were always made on time. They had all my contact information (office, cell, email) and at no time reached out to tell me my account was being closed. I still don't know why it was closed. I attempted to get assistance to open it again and decided since they had no regard for me and my business as their long time customer to contact me if there was a problem, not to use them any longer. I was beyond disappointed on how they treat their customers. I would not recommend them to anyone after this experience.

Unusable Dashboard, Horrendous "Escalation Team".

Was hired recently and one of my side projects at the company I work for was getting 2 domains fully operational again, and while the first one was transferred out without issue, the second domain had failed multiple times with no email, and I later found out that it was put on hold for some reason.

Had to call support twice over this issue, as the emails I had requested never were returned after I started replying to them.

The site is archaic and unusable, and shows domains that aren't controlled by the service anymore.

We had set it up so there would not be a 60 day lock on the domain, this was here before I was hired.

After 3 failed attempts to transfer the domain over to porkbun, my co-worker then forwarded me a email from them stating that the domain was ICANN Transfer locked due to the changes we made, even though the 60 day period that is usually there was specifically OPTED OUT for both domains.

We constantly told the escalation team through our support contacts that WE WERE NOT RECIEVING ANY EMAILS from them related to this issue, and while the tech support team was kind, having no direct line to the Escalation Team, or any Email Follow Up conversation ruined any good will that was gained from that Tech Support Team.

Website Disappeared Without Warning!

When I went to update my website, I read a banner at the top of the page telling me that the site would be shut down by January 15, 2026! The email had failed the previous week. I had received no advanced warning. So shocking and disappointing.

I am trying to make a living here! Last time I called customer service. The person helping, was oblivious and couldn’t spell anything English! Then once I voiced frustration, she literally hung up on me. Useless! I have hung on this entire time, over two decades. Looking for a new host. I am done! Horrible quality and no service, in every way possible!

Terrible dishonest tactics!

I have used them for 20 years and out of nowhere they shut down my websites and told me I have a 328.00 bill. They tried to charge an old card, and it was rejected. They are full of non English speaking beginners and have lost my respect. This company is useless as the websites don't properly function on cell phones!

Today broke me!

After being a customer for many, many years, I am finally going to move all my websites to another platform. I have tried to reach customer service multiple times, as my primary site is unusable today, but with no luck. Then, I got locked out for six hours as I mistyped my password. Enough is enough, and I am leaving, period.

horrible company. They continue to charge your card after you transfer your domain. I gave a card number over the phone for the last month payment, and they did not have permission to save it or continue to charge it. Avoid this company at all cost!!!!

Tech support doesn't know what they are doing

I used homestead to rebuild a website that was already hosted on the platform. Immediately after switching to the new sitebuilder, Google stopped being able to detect any content on the website. This caused our SEO ranking to plummet. I've talked with tech support repeatedly, who insist that its not their problem and refuse to do anything to help the situation. Additionally, the sitebuilder is not user friendly and is clunky to use. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT. Just build a wordpress website or a wix website and get ranked. This is ridiculous.

Along the way they have partnered with technologies, and companies, moved on, and left their customers stranded. The latest is the Sitebuilder Debaucle. Sorry you used our website builder for a large website. We didn't mean for that to happen. Oh well, we've moved along. You'll have to rebuild 150 web pages. No, we don't have any way to do that.

Had a website for many years

Had a website for many years. One day went out to do a review and my website I’d had for 12 years wasn’t mine any longer. They claim they sent a renewal notice…. Never received and lost my website. What was ODD was a large company has approached me a few times to sell them my site, now has my site!.
Since they weren’t servicing my site any longer they offered to refund me one month .
I was able to get a .org website through Google for 1/12 Homesteads yearly price.

Horrid customer service

Horrid customer service. Have problems with your site then good luck getting help from them. All they do is direct you to a community of other users for help and even then you might not get an answer. Really bad company I'd stay away from them.

Unauthorized credit card use

Probably 15 years ago I designed a website using my Corporation name. I never posted it. I contacted them recently to see about posting it and when they told me they owned the name I told them cancel everything close it I'll go elsewhere. I just got notified by my bank that somebody from homestead technology tried to use my credit card to put charges on my credit card. I never gave anybody permission to do anything. Thank heavens the credit card was canceled 10 years ago. I tried to call tech support of course it's offshore. So you can bet nothing's going to happen. Anybody that deals with this Corporation will truly and absolutely regret it! Mark my words. You have been warned!

Being held hostage????

I'm a web developer and I my client was using this platform prior to hiring me to move him over to a modern website built on Wordpress. He had his domain name registered with these guys, and when we were ready to go live I pointed the DNS to Cloudflare and brought the new site live. Since you continue to pay the 10 dollars a month whether you are hosting a website with Homestead or just have your domain name registered there I encouraged him to transfer his domain name over to GoDaddy. He wasn't technically savvy enough to attempt that so he made me a delegate on his GoDaddy account so I could complete the transfer. I started the process but Homestead kept sending an incorrect authorization code. I called them, and the tech walked me through the issue - thinking it was my fault... it was not... they have a glitch with their domain registrar (TuCows) and said they would escalate the issue to them and that they would be getting me a corrected auth code. It's been over a week and they still have not responded and now this morning I'm trying to call them (they should have been open an hour ago) and their phone system says they are closed. This is all after sending an RE: to the technician who sent me the information about the code FOUR days ago - with no answer. My honest opinion this is a micky mouse operation, with terribly outdated technology, nobody should even consider using this platform if you want to build an effective website.

One big headache.

I've had nothing but problems with this company and their customer support is very poor.

They direct you to an online community for help from other website owners or you can call an American number which from the UK will cost an absolute fortune.

There is no support email to contact them and the only other way of contact is via messenger and mostly they don't answer. If they do they direct you to the community.

Most of the tutorials are outdated. When I googled a problem I got a tutorial from 2012 that was no help at all because the website builder has obviously been upgraded.

I have been having problems with my web builder publishing to the internet and despite contact with them they have yet to help other than direct me to a community.

The mobile web builder is very poor and if you post images it cuts the top and bottom off them.

I have found them really slow to help but very quick to take the subscription out monthly. Basically their customer service is extremely poor, it's as if they don't care at all.

It's very frustrating to pay for a service that isn't working and there is no help when needed.

I would recommend anyone looking to build a website to stay well clear of homestead. There are better alternatives out there for less money.

This could possibly be the worst…

This could possibly be the worst company I have ever worked with. Do yourself a favor and run in the opposite direction. They have zero contacts in the United states. All of their tech is subcontracted out in the Philippines. Their system is outdated and their email never works. JOKE...

A scam

As far as I can tell this company supports scams. A survival spade was advertised via YouTube through this company. I placed order on 9/26/20, they took my money, and now you can’t reach anybody. Don’t trust them

5 stars for Homestead!

So, giving an unbiased review can sometimes be tough for me. I have both Homestead and GoDaddy so I'll use that comparison.

I can say with confidence that while you'll pay a bit more (for example you'll pay about 275 annually for the Business package with Homestead vs around 175 annually for a similar package with GoDaddy's builder called GoCentral) if you're building one site, the Business package with Homestead you get unlimited sites!

So you just have to pay for the domains. Homestead WebsiteBuilder has a bit more functionality than GoDaddy's GoCentral, but it can be a bit more difficult to learn. It's not hard by any means, but still a steeper curve than GoCentral.

Many (if not all, honestly) of the "HORRIBLE OMG" reviews are gonna be user error and people that don't care to manage their account or are just lazy or incompetent. If you run a business, it's your job as the business owner to maintain and manage your online presence. If you get charged for a renewal and you don't know about it, THAT IS YOUR OWN FAULT.

Some call Homestead the "Fisher Price" of hosting because it doesn't have any advanced functionality like wordpress hosting, database or file management. If you're just needing a basic site or to sell a few products online and have little or no tech knowledge but you're willing to learn, homestead is going to be PERFECT for you.

If you need that advanced functionality, Homestead isn't for you. Then again you probably already know that.

AS FOR THEIR SUPPORT: Here's the deal with that. Call in during business hours. It's not hard. Talking to someone on a phone is not a difficult process. It's a small team so you gotta be patient when on hold. Don't be an assh*le to the rep and I *PROMISE YOU* they'll go out of their way to help you. I've always had VERY positive experiences with them.
