I love shopping in Home Hardware stores…

I love shopping in Home Hardware stores but their online shopping experience is probably one of the worst experiences I have every had. If and when the products show up the products are great. Their choice for delivery service is the worst. My first attempt at an online ship to home took an extra few days as Loomis their third party delivery service offloaded my order at Canada Post and I had to wait until it arrived in the mail. My second experience is pretty much the same. I ordered something mid February with an expected delivery 6 days later, which I really needed for my kitchen renovation as of today (March 10) I have not received it yet.

Great Staff and Service, Good Selection

I have been dealing with the Home Hardware stores, first in Port Hood, Nova Scotia, starting in June 2008, and since the summer of 2025 when the new Home Hardware store opened there in Port Hawkesbury, NS, under the same ownership.

I have always had great service from their friendly, knowledgeable staff. The owners and managers care about their customers, aiming to provide exemplary service.

There is a great selection of goods for sale, and the staff is quick to find and order whatever they might not have in stock. The online HH site does not always reflect what the local HH stores have in stock or can get for you, as I learned just today when I wanted very specific mini-lights for my Christmas tree to replace a large string that burned out over Christmas.

The customer service staff member located and put aside for me two boxes of the specific lights that I needed, for me to pick up on Thursday, no questions asked. Those lights were not available on the HH online site.

He was most courteous, as all of the staff are that I have encountered over more than 17 years of dealing with Home Hardware here in Cape Breton.

I have made multiple online orders over the years. I was always fully satisfied. I commend the owners and staff for their superb dedication to customer satisfaction. Well done! I will be back!

Low quality of Home Hardware product

I have found the quality of Home Hardware exclusive products has drooped so steeply in the last few years there is no longer any point in purchasing anything at home hardware that is not a national recognized brand. Purchased a freezer, water drips inside constantly, purchased a toilet plunger the rubber became hard in a few months and a bed that lost all its firmness in less than a years normal use, you get the idea. Add to this the pricing at Home Hardware is pretty steep and driving further for any purchase is now very worthwhile. Pity they have lost their way as a source of quality, value oriented products.

Ordered a Christmas tree online

Ordered a Christmas tree online — didn’t check reviews online prior and unfortunately they shipped with Loomis which is the worst shipping company. My old apartment building was involved in a fire last year so we lost everything , had to buy all our Christmas decor from scratch so tried to make things easier by ordering the tree online. Horrible experience, don’t think I’ll ever be getting this tree as it’s nowhere to be found, been out for delivery for almost a week now. DO NOT SHOP ONLINE!

I went to home hardware today

I went to home hardware today. They were quite busy. I was standing in a line trying to find out some information about paint when a girl named Kate was talking to another customer and she noticed me she came over and asked me if she could help me she showed me what I wanted And then went back and finished with the other customer. Also, she was very polite and knowledgable of everything in the paint department best experience I’ve had in a store in a long time. Keep up the good work, Kate you’re an asset to their company.

I dealt with Lesley at the Home Hardware in Cranbrook BC who went out of her way to help me out. She was patient and thorough and I really appreciated that extra bit of service thank you

Great Service - Appliance Department

Home Hardware in Sooke are a great asset to this community.
Short story, my fridge failed overnight, I bought a replacement the next morning and they delivered the new unit early afternoon that day. On top of that wonderful service, I commented to the delivery fellow that I was surprised by the lack of shelves in the new fridge. He returned the next morning with two shelves (surplus stock) that fit perfectly - and no charge. Thank you Home Hardware and Paul !!!

Home hardware - HORRIBLE QUALITY - DONT GO!!

Home hardware - WOW! how bad can products be? First we bought a storm door - screen is coming aprt in less than a year, you buy a garden hose the next day it tears/breaks. Then you buy a gutter tool I think gutter commander - it leaks out of its metal connection that is perm not screwed on so it cannot be blamed on the customer and gave me a shower I did NOT WANT! then the next day I buy a garden hose nozzle and it leaks out of its joints like the gutter tool - all over the place!!
I will never ever buy from them again their products have to be very very cheaply produced but the prices are no better than anyother hardware store.

The service at the Home Hardware store…

The service at the Home Hardware store in Liverpool Nova Scotia is excellent. I bought a hot water tank and it took about 10 minutes and it was loaded in my truck. The staff are great. You are greeted as you walk in the door and helped right away.

I purchased a RADLEY 17.5″ 40V 5 Ah…

I purchased a RADLEY 17.5″ 40V 5 Ah battery cordless lawn mower from Home Hardware online. After charging the battery overnight, I used it only once, and it ran for just over 20 minutes before the battery ran out. I returned it to my local store within a week of purchase and was told a refund will be issued, but I never received the funds. When I contacted the store, they directed me to the online ordering team. The online team refused to issue a refund and offered only to replace the batteries!

They told me to contact the manufacturer and start the warranty process on a brand-new product that I bought from them. They claimed it’s their policy they don’t take “used” product back since the box was opened and product was used. This was not written on their return policy and definitely not mentioned during purchase, they don’t take any open product back. That means essentially, they don’t take any return back unless you changed your mind unopened. They don’t take brand new defective items back either! Very bad experience, instead of issuing a refund for their defective product they threatened me that I’ll be banned from buying from their online store. How ridiculous, can you imagine Home Depot or Rona or Lowes doing such thing. I wish they go bankrupt, 0 customer service and huge attitude.

Nuisance Lighting Issues IGNORED

We have had an issue with Home Hardware, Lake Country, BC, with Nuisance lighting for 5 years. Their security lights invade the privacy of our seniors complex, + the town homes in back of the store + a facility that houses brain injured people. The lights shine directly on to buildings. Many, MANY complaints have been made over the past 5 years and no resolution. The owner/manager is rude and impossible to deal with. Bylaws are ignored by all concerned and no enforcement. 😞😞👎👎

Wells Gray Home Hardware.

We are very Happy with the Staff at Wells Gray Home Hardware. They are very helpful with any needs we need to find a suitable product and if not in stock they are willing to order for us or suggest another brand that will do the job required.
At this time we are having problems with our Benchmark Lawnmower. They gave us a contact Name and Number to help solve our problem directly with Midland Power. It seems that they are going to Warranty the part we are having issues with.

Its hard to tow the company line

Its hard to tow the company line, "Buy Canadian" when it costs more and takes L-O-N-G-E-R to fill a local order. I ordered a Graniteware 10" round Roasting pan online on the 14th. Its now the 21st and the order is still stuck at stage 1 which means they received the order but have not process, picked-up or moved anything anywhere.

And by their online claim that my order will be ready to pick-up by the 23rd and usually online order get completed before than... a big FAT HA!!! I doubt that highly.

The hilarious part is on the same day (February 14th), I place an online order with Temu for a square baking pan w lid. It was less than 1/3 the cost of the Graniteware roasting pan and it arrived FROM CHINA two days ago (19th). Only cost me $6.99 which is 1/3 the cost of the Graniteware version at $20.99 + tx ($23.72) - arrived in only 5 days from overseas and it was delivered to my home.

This Home Hardware order is a Pick-up because for this simple pan, they wanted $12.99 + tax to deliver it to me. $20.99 + $12.99 + tax ($38.40). Like why buy local (Canadian) when we can get it cheaper, FASTER and delivered to us. Instead of this more expensive, slower and is a pickup order...

Online it claimed instock but evidently that is a lie because I got an email claiming they still have the order in process and they are getting it from their warehouse instead of the store. Remember, TEMU DELIVERED TO ME... IN ONLY 5 DAYS FROM OVERSEAS!!! So Home Hardware... I'm not impressed. I bet because they are getting it from their, 'warehouse'... it'll be banged up, dented or worst crushed beyond belief...

DO NOT ORDER ONLINE. Even if they have the product in the store it will take a week to get the order. Unbelievable. Will never order from home hardware again. Probably won’t ever buy anything from home hardware again. Still waiting

The return policy says "Merchandise can be returned to any store at no charge". In reality the store managers are not accepting the returns from different stores. I have purchased ABS drain at Home Hardware Metro Building Centre in Toronto and was trying to return it (still unused and boxed) to a different store - Eastway Home Building Centre in Markham, ON. I was told by store manager Kevin that all the returns must be made at the same store. Stay away from The Home Hardware Stores!

Store that Scams its customers

I had the displeasure of going to the College and Spadina location to purchase a Master Lock , lock box , when I brought it to set up and deposit keys in it, the number dial will not rotate once I changed the code from the original, took it immediately and exchanged it to a different model master Lock box, we experienced the same problem once the code was changed where the dial was stuck and will not rotate. When I took it back and requested for a refund, I was referred to an asian employee, who said that she sells a lot of these lock boxes, this is the first time she is having a complaint, will not provide us a refund because it was the second time within the same day that I am returning the lock boxes and I did not know how to set up the lock box. I was asked to come back on Monday so that an employee who knows how to set up the lock box will show me how to set it up. I had to advise her that I work with lock boxes all the time in my profession and I clearly knew how to set up a lock box and demonstrated and showed her where the rotating dial gets stuck once the code is changed and insisted that she provides us the refund today as we have to have the lock box tomorrow morning set up and cannot wait until Monday. With continued persistence she finally provided me the refund. I would like the following done by the Home hardware head office.

1) Compensate me for the time I wasted going back and forth trying exchange and obtain a refund.

2) I would like to know as to what the refund policy of Home hardware is and if all of their franchise owners are aware of the head offices refund policy.

3) Check all of the Master Lock, lock boxes in this store to ensure that they are working and they are not duping innocent customers by selling and not refunding non working lock boxes.

4) Train the franchise owner and the asian lady who dealt with us on the importance of customer centric approach to dealing with customer concerns.

We had to drive to a home depot and purchase the same lock and it works fine as per its design.

Very disappointed and will not recommend this location.

My husband and I went to your location…

My husband and I went to your location in Dundas Ontario university plaza my husband who is blind was looking for a rack to hang brooms and mops and was told by your store in Watertown that you do carry this item so we went to the one in Dundas which is closer. The reception we received was uninterest at best the gentleman who was helping us did not even know where to look in the store.My husband then asked if he could have it sent over from the other store. He went into the back room we waited for about 5min and another guy came out refused to look the item up on the computer and when we asked if he could arrange to have item sent to his store his comment was do it yourself told my husband he was rude and to get the f—-k out. I am 72 years old and was shocked. When asked to speak to the manager he said he was the owner and again get the f out of his store.We have lived in Dundas for 40 years and never been treated so rudely . If this is the type of person you want representing your name then sham on you. There is a Canadian tire in this plaza but we always thought we would support the small business owners. NOT ANY MORE
