Absolute disaster - let the bird escape
Absolute disaster - let the bird escape.
We had a lovely homing pigeon decide to land in our kitchen on its way home from hundreds of miles away. The owner thinks it may have been chased by a falcon. He asked us to look after it, which we did: fed, watered, and kept safe so he could arrange collection four days later.
High flyers turned up with a small cardboard box with a top opening, which surprised me, as the pigeon was in a cat carry case with a front opening.
Instead of safely transferring her to a better box, the courier decided to try and grab her by hand. She, of course, panicked, managed to escape, and flew off into the distance.
He said, "These things happen, and they have happened a lot to our drivers recently". I suggested they review their processes, as it's not fair to the bird or the owner who trusted her with their care.
Just came across as amateurish. I'm not a bird expert, but I could tell from the minute he tried to grab her with his hands instead of safely transferring her from one box to another that it wasn't going to end well.
I'm really angry and frustrated after taking care of this bird and looking forward to knowing she was safely home.
Would not recommend at all for safely transporting your birds; they'll let them go free. As the saying goes, "you had one job".
