Don’t bother going for food

Don’t bother going for food - sat outside as it was a nice sunny day, but the only options were sandwiches out the chiller pies or crisps (all of which were a rip off). The pie was £11 & sandwiches (small) £8.90 - we requested a bacon sandwich for my daughter and they didn’t even bother cutting it in half. My Gluten free bread was soaking wet & had obviously been shoved in a microwave to defrost. Bar serves was also terrible with my brother being completely ignored by the lad of the bar who was chatting & paying more attention to a dog. All in all bad service & very over priced for terrible food. Shame as lovely location & garden.

Lovely location in the New Forest but…

Lovely location in the New Forest but prices of the bar food for what we were given was awful. £9.00 for a ploughman's sandwich which came with a quarter slice of white bread, tiny piece of cheese and ham and a small tub of pickle and sliced pickled onion. We were totally shocked at this price. Two pieces of carrot cake to follow were £4.00 but sliced so thinly I'd estimate the total cake probably sold at over £150!! Would not buy food there if we return! So sad as we had great hopes for a nice lunch before our walk.

Went there with family for final get together for end of lovely weekend
Lovely location
BUT
Ribbon cabbage might look fancy but tasted awful so one taste n left rest
White sauce was a blob a cold blob and didn't pour , it was like a blob of blancmange
Daughters beer battered cod she says was more batter than cod
Sons beef looked unappetising and no steak knife offered
To be honest I've had better roasts at Toby Inns and better value
The Yorkshire size was impressive but tho sides were nice n crisp the bases were soggy and greasy
The server Ruby was attentive
BUT I felt all the staff looked scruffy in their dress, surely a uniform of some kind would have looked better
The outside was lovely for the children in play area
BUT the pear tree had a very large windfall which you couldn't avoid and some were squished and slippery
Surely it would have been sensible to rake them into a pile before opening for the day ?
I'm somewhat disabled and struggle with balance so walking thro this made me anxious and I wasn't impressed at all by this pub. Very disappointing and the only good thing I will compliment was the desserts which were lovely .

What a shame! Not the food experience you want.

What a shame!
Took the family for a walk in the forest and lunch at High Corner Inn. Haven’t been here for many a year so, turning up on a Sunday was disappointed at the limited menu. Chose what we could as we were all hungry, food came out with two meals not what we asked for. Service said “oh, did no one come and tell you? We didn’t have the scotch eggs so here’s sausage rolls” secondly, chicken strips which had baked and chips were cold. Instead of the sausage roll I opted for the burger as an alternative. After everyone had eaten it turned up. Burger was okay, chips had come out of the fryer and was half decent size the other half the ‘butts’.
Service was polite but there apology was ‘instead of charging for the sausage rolls we’ll charge you for the replacement burger’. Not really a resolution or apology for food that was sub standard so I have no interest in returning.

Definately gone downhill

I have been coming here for years; first, as a local pub & then after moving away, visiting with my husband & dog & staying overnight. It has definately gone downhill since Butcombe took over. The cleanliness needs to be addressed; we stayed in the most expensive room & we could see that it hadn't been vacuumed! It also needs a good dust. We had a lovely chicken dinner on the evening of arrival, but the full English breakfast was not good. We were not offered juice or water, like everyone else & there was no butter for the toast. Eggs over cooked, slimy mushrooms & it was barely warm. Our dog seemed to enjoy the sausages! Don't get me wrong; the staff are brilliant; very polite & cannot do enough for you. After 35 years though, I'm afraid we are now looking for alternative dog-friendly accommodation. The big, corporate machine has taken the warm, personal family feel out of the experience.

We had a fantastic experience here

We had a fantastic experience here. On arrival we were welcomed with a warm smile and an offer of help with our bags. The staff were knowledgeable and extremely professional. The rooms were spotless and comfortable, evening meal and breakfast were spot on but what made it special were the affable staff and the personal touches, signed welcome letter. The manager (Charlie) and her team did themselves proud. We will be visiting again👍🏾 David & Sarah.

Truly the most disappointing pub I have…

Truly the most disappointing pub I have visited since visiting Wales' highest suicide rate town.

We wrnt to enjoy the forest and reflect on a horrific time in our lives, ready to process this.

The grounds were covered in litter despite the beautiful landscape they could have utilised. Ruins the new forest to the nth degree.

My partner began to be served by one lad, after ordering, upon return from filling our dog bowl, the lad taking our order then went off on the phone and totally ignored is whilst the pub was deadly quiet.

We then waited 5 mins at the bar, before a young girl asked if she could help, having witnessed my partner order.

She then had no clue how to pour a pint or make an aperol spritzer. Shr asked me how to make one, then didn't believe me

Despite being empty, the manager (equally incompetant) showed her over 8 mins how to makr one (without prosecco!!) As opposed to making it quickly and then showing her (when it was on their cheat card system)

It took 20 mins solid while empty to get our 25 pound drinks and a bowl of fries ordered. We were charged a service charge for this honour, and a warm peroni pint and awful spritzer.

The menu is extortionately priced.

To get onto the food, my fries were still uncooked with solid lumps inside and a pure white colour, with only mayo available. I was offered hp sauce instead of BBQ. The chips were oven chips disgustintly undercooked.

We then asked for a refund on service charge, to which the manager didnt know we would need to give her our card for it. Mental behaviour for a manager.

Between the litter coating the beautiful ground, the horrific service and the awful beverages and foor, this does the beautiful New Forest 0 credit and only embarrasses our home.

Truly livid to find a fully staffed pub coated in animal-unfriendly litter like plastic and tissues whilst empty in a home such as ours

The experience was so poor we chose a 20 mile round trip to McDonald's and enjoyed the foor and r service far more.

Truly disappointing.

We stopped for lunch and ordered two focaccia club sandwiches
Totally disappointed, we’ve eaten here before and it was very good quality but this was 1 star dried bread with very little filling
Shame, the location is very good, pity lunch wasn’t
I did inform a member of staff, but all I got was an apology

Awful Experience – Never Again!

We decided to book an overnight to stay on the recommendation of friends, who previously told us how nice it was to dine at the Inn and sit in the bar area until late into the evening, enjoying the ambiance of the Inn!
You can imagine our disappointment when we arrived to check-in (looking forward to dining and whiling away the evening in the bar) to be asked by the lady who greeted us, had anybody from the Inn been in contacted with us to advise of changes to the dining room and Bar opening hours that evening – i.e. Restaurant closing at 8pm and Bar closing at 9pm, to which I advised her that we had not been contacted, or advised of these changes to the published times.
Clearly this was not acceptable as this would have meant retiring to our room at 9pm, which defeated the whole point of our stay! Therefore, we had no option other than to instruct the lady that was checking us in (who was extremely embarrassed!) to cancel our booking on the basis that The High Corner Inn had changed its operating hours and failed to notify us in advance of our arrival.
Having made the booking several months ago, also having completed the on-line express check-in link sent to me on the morning of our stay, at no time were we contacted, or notified of the changes to the Inn’s opening times.
Frankly, we found this level of service to be extremely annoying, very frustrating, disappointing, and extremely unprofessional!
Furthermore, I have twice attempted to contact the Inn Manager, and the Butcombe Pubs & Inns head office to lodge my complaint and seek their feedback from a customer service perspective, no response has been forthcoming, which does not reflect well on the establishments management, or the Pub Chain.
In summary, we booked a room in good faith expecting the Inn to be operating to normal published hours, clearly the late change in opening times failed to meet our requirements.
We certainly won’t be planning to visit this Inn again.

Nestled in the heart of the New Forest…

Nestled in the heart of the New Forest at the end of a gravel road. The High Corner is a beautiful Inn very well presented, set within the trees and making a great location for a family visit. We stopped over for lunch and received a fantastic welcome from the staff. There was plenty to choose from on the lunchtime menu. The food was enjoyable, as was our time there and would make a great place to stay.

Simply cannot return anymore, just too disappointing.

Have been coming here for 20 years plus and this place has really gone down hill. Even after poor service and value for money we still wanted to make a go of this because we visit semi regularly and it’s location is ideal for walking in the new forest.

The menu is so basic now - such few options to chose from, pizza burger or ploughman’s pretty much and poor value for money. It used to be well priced with so many more great pub food options.

Service has gotten generally worse as well. To top it off, after eating most of my meal, I found a dark long hair sitting in the gravy under the beef and Yorkshire pudding. I was going to let it go and just get out of there but my husband wasn’t having any of it considering the price. When we went to speak to staff - we were told ‘it could have blown on from being carried across to the table’ which was an absolute ridiculous notion considering it was under all the food items and sitting in gravy. He simply did not believe us and wouldn’t hear of it. We are both fair haired anyway and mine was scraped into a bun as we were eating outdoors and was naturally windy. So it was definitely not ours! So disappointed. My husband continued to pursue and eventually after an ugly struggle we got our money back.

It had to be our last straw in not returning ever as we can no longer overlook all the obvious disappointments.

Beautiful setting in New Forest.

We were visiting family in Salisbury and they very kindly took us for a trip to the New Forest, stopping for lunch at this pub. An attempt at making a reservation by phone was ignored and when we arrived we discovered that they were expecting a party of 80 so most of the outside tables were reserved. We did get a reasonable table outside and were given a very disappointing menu to chose from. I assume that the choices of Ploughmans, Pizza or burger were due to the large party they were expecting. We ordered quickly before said party turned up but were unable to order more drinks when it got too busy. But it is in a lovely setting and we didn't let all this spoil the day. However, on checking the bill (a copy of which I had to ask for) it seems that an "optional" service charge of 10% is added!! Would have queried this but it was too busy so we left to have dessert elsewhere (none on menu anyway). I would hope that there is a better menu on less busy days - just watch out for the sneaky service charge!!

Phoned to make a reservation for a very…

Phoned to make a reservation for a very special family celebration. They were unable or unwilling to make any extra effort to help this be a memorable meal and staff was unfriendly despite my efforts. Called them back today to ask about table availability outside and no one answered so I left a message but no one returned my call. Called again awhile later and still no one answered.

Attended the meal today and felt sure the waitress/bar person was the same as was originally on the phone, having an attitude issue immediately. I asked if we could open a tab and she asked which table number we were at. As we were outside I was unsure which table (I saw no number) and she asked if it was new table. I hesitated as there were a lot of us so we were at two tables together, one older and one newer but my momentary hesitation was met with her repeating the question rudely. I said we had two tables and explained where they which was at the far end of the garden, the only tables there. She insisted one of us go out to find the number despite them being the only ones that far down. It really did seem as though she just wanted to make things uncomfortable and did not want to be bothered. As we left the ordering area two members of our group were saying how rude she was.

Our food was brought to us by a man with a scowl and a grunt. The food was the worst and last straw. Mcdonald's would have served better and I am not exaggerating. The Caesar salad was quite literally a dish of old wilted lettuce. It came with a boiled egg cut in half and even the white was part was under cooked so that it was gooey and slimy. The pitifully sized macaroni and cheese tasted awful- so bland & like pasta in cheesy water. The Linguini's (and both people who ordered this agreed) that is was the most tasteless meal they had had. The scampi meal may as well have come from a cardboard box in tesco's freezer. The list went on except for one person who had the ploughman's and said it was ok.

The prices for these not so pleasurable meals were extortionate for the size and shocking lack of quality. The linguini with added chicken was £16.

As this was supposed to be a very special family meal which we were looking forward to for weeks we thought about not saying anything, preferring to keep things "happy" but we were all so disappointed that when one of us did say something to the not so friendly woman and she joked about it (yes, she did) I decided to tell her a bit more about how we felt. She was surprised of course and said no one else has complained about their food. All I can say about that is that I think the standard of "pub food" has gone down so much that many people are used to getting this type of "meal" or are just to uncomfortable to say something.

When we went in to the pay the woman said as we were so unhappy with our meals she would remove the cost of our drinks. As we only had one drink each and two were soft drinks it was a bit of a disappointment but better than nothing. I have been going to the High Corner Inn for almost 30 years- not often as it is not close to us but at least once a year. It has really gone downhill sadly and that was my last time ever going there; unfortunate because the setting is so nice (and dog friendly) but there are more pubs/restaurants in the forest where hopefully we can find something far better.

Great pub and restaurant in The New Forest

Very good pub and restaurant in the Ringwood area and great location for a weekend away in The New Forest. The reason we went there is because it is pet friendly, and when they say pet friendly dogs can go anywhere and everywhere. The food was great, we did have a slight problem with one of the meals and they replaced it without question. The rooms were clean considering animals are allowed in there. Staff were a little blunt at Times but I will let them off as it was a bank holiday and they said they were working long shifts and the pub was at capacity all day. Would definitely go again
