The Web used to be a wild frontier that transcended geographical and political boundaries, and gave people anonymity and freedom. Anyone could go online to share ideas and access anything from anywhere. Now, the Web has become dangerously fragmented along country lines. Everything people do online is tracked, packaged, and sold, or used to control what they can see and do — with consequences that are becoming all too clear every day. HMA brings back online privacy so people can once again experience freedom on the Web. We’ve been around for a long time: We were one of the founders of this whole consumer VPN game. We make sure people can access what they want, from wherever they are, and stay private doing so.

Do not honour the money-back guarantee & support does not respond
I have tried to get a refund through your 30-day money-back guarantee, but you're not honouring it. I have sent multiple requests to cancel my subscription and receive a refund within the 30 days, and the only replies I have received are to say that the team will get back to me within 48 hours -- no one ever has. You are not standing by your 30-day money-back guarantee. On top of that, there is no way to manually cancel the annual subscription and I can't turn off auto renew. So, you've sent me an email asking how you're doing -- pretty $h!t to be honest!

SCAM COMPANY DO NOT GET A VPN WITH THEM. once you sign up with them there’s no option to unsubscribe. I have been begging them to let me unsubscribe but no one replies to the requests I submit. Horrible company I hope they go bankrupt. I am telling u, there’s no button to unsubscribe.
Flat out SCAMMER VPN Company & Charge Processing 2 Checkout
Not what they claim.
This is the worse VPN period. From the empty promises to the lack of support and when you cancel your service they continue to charge you. They do not have a phone to call for assistance. You are to write a ticket on a website that is not monitored, so you get no timely reply. They use a second charge processing company 2Checkout to process payments and then themselves are scammers. They have a worse review than HMA. They claim it take over a week to get a reply. In the meantime they keep your money and will keep it as long as they want. They do not credit away all. It will take you months with frustration and major sleeping spray so that you get tired so they can keep your money. According to what I found on line this is the business model. Scam the customer and ignore them.
In short…
HMA VPN connection is slow and unreliable
HMA Customer service is mediocre at best
2Checkout charge processing company is a scam. Look for reviews online.
Stay away there are many other worthy VPN companies that will treat you better.
I had to call my bank to report the unauthorized charge as a scam. It was credited quickly and now HMA & 2Checkout are being investigated.
Lost $120 for nothing
Used the free trial then cancelled and turned off auto-renewal, I was charged for a year anyway and requests for a refund have been ignored leaving me down $120
No cancellation option
Gave no option to cancel the free trial so I emailed on day 1 asking them to cancel it manually. Got charged for a year’s subscription on day 7. Ignored my emails for 3 months until Amex contacted them to dispute the charge. Luckily Amex refunded me without questions. And a few months later, I received an email from HMA asking me to review them, so thanks for the reminder! Would give zero stars if I could.
Awful customer service
Awful customer service, emailed them twice and no one has got back to me.
They are a bunch of scammers
They are a bunch of scammers, I couldn’t use their product in Ubuntu, cancelled before the end of the trial and they charged my cc, I’ve been trying to recover my mi money but they never complete the process.

I emailed to cancel about a week ago and still have heard nothing back and the cancel page on their app/website doesn't work and neither does the link in the email
Bad service and bad customer service
I have been a HMA customer for several years. Mostly, I let my subscription renew out of my laziness, not because I enjoy their service. They have an impressive number of server worldwide, which came in handy several time, but I do not use VPN often to justify me paying for it. In addition, their service got worse over the years. Some of the major issues are the VPN speed is often drops my connection speed more than 75%, the connection hangs when I'm connected for long time, and the IP addresses that they use do not belong to the countries they claim; e.g., I connect to country A and the popular video sharing site I am visiting identify me as in country B. I am not sure this is HMA fault, though. Fast forward to June 2023 when I wanted to cancel my subscription, but waiting until it is one week before the end my subscription (end of June), only to see them charging me 2 weeks in advance. I opened a ticket with them, followed up with the ticket, open another ticket, but got no response whatsoever. Moreover, I cannot access my tickets anymore, because I need to log into a Salesforce portal that I have never registered too. In short, stay away of this company that has a notoriously bad service and bad customer service.
Support is not responding to my 30 day money back request
Support is not responding to my 30 day money back request.
I requested the 7 day HMA trial and after 5 days tried to cancel the whole thing before anything was charged. Since there was no option to cancel a subscription in my account (no button there) and no PayPal/Google Play subscription, I have written emails to the support, which have not been answered until today.
Money was of course debited and the tariff is opaque. There is no tariff offered that fits the price I paid. Everything seems very dubious, I can not recommend.
Awful support
Awful support
As others have said, HMA do not respond to support requests. Their money back guarantee is a lie because they simply do not respond.
I have tried contacting them multiple times over 14 months and they will not respond to any requests.
I would not put any faith in this company at all, its clearly a scam.
No support, no rsponse on 30day money back guarantee, avoid in any case
No matter which time you check out their live chat, there is nothig live, just ticket system and no responses so far.
technical issues, no reply, so 30 days refund guarantee ticket sumbitted, no response too, so just avoid them or you will loose your money
Awful do not subscribe !
Awful , terrrible service and take your money but don't provide any support for 3 months so you can’t get a refund . This is a scam company providing dreadful service !!
Okay service
I feel strange writing this good review, but I really have no problems with this software. It looks cool and it just works. I saw this sea of bad reviews and decided to put my 2 cents.

I would give 0 stars if there was an option. I have now made a complaint to Consumer Complaints in Australia
I have sent a number of emails to support regarding not proceeding with my renewal, my first request responded to by a support officer, prior renewal date. I was still charged and my subscription renewed. I understand mistakes happen, however this has been absolutely ridicules as I have had no responses requesting assistance with a refund. I advised I would be submitting a formal compliant last week with still not response, so I have done this and will be taking this further.
I raised two more support request following up on this issue. These are (#2021187) & (#2021188) and have received no help with this issue
DON'T DO IT
I signed up while I was out of the country and was having issues accessing my work's website. The free trial (like many others) requires you to put in payment information for when the trial is up. I connected it to my PayPal account and tried to proceed, but within 15 minutes I simply decided it wasn't worth the hassle. There is an option in your account settings to "delete account," which I did - assuming that it would delete payment information as well. But wouldn't you know it, a week later I was charged $85 for a year's subscription, even though I have zero access to the account I made.
I immediately emailed in for a refund, but their response was that they would need to forward the request to the manufacturer and that it would take about 5 business days. I got no reply from either, even when I tried to follow up.
The next time I heard from anyone was when they caught wind that I was also disputing the charge on PayPal and essentially wanted me to cancel it. I repeated my issue to that customer service rep but was met with no response after a few business days. PayPal since then also refused to refund because "the charge was processed correctly." The amount isn't the issue - it's that it was charged from a deleted account.
The next email I got was one asking me to rate my customer service experience - as you can imagine, I gave them a bad rating, and only then did I hear back from the previous rep saying "sorry to hear you weren't satisfied, let me know how I can help." Well, obviously you're NOT helping. Still no reply when I responded to THAT email.
I contacted customer service from a fresh thread through their contact page, attaching screenshots of all my previous interactions and concerns with the issue. Was only met with a "I'd be happy to help, but can I ask why you would like a refund?" Well, Mihailo, if you even READ my complaint, you would know. It's been a few days since I replied, but I have once again been met with silence.
I am currently working with my bank to get a refund and am taking any avenue possible to make sure that no one else falls victim to this horrible + fraudulent service. I wish I had done more research myself before signing up, but I had a friend recommend the service to me whose opinion I typically respect when it comes to IT-related issues, so I failed to use a little more caution in this scenario.
So, DO NOT do it. I have obviously learned a few lessons in this situation so I hope to be able to save someone else the hassle. There's something super scammy about this website + service and you will likely regret it. 30-day money back guarantee that they constantly push in their CS responses is a joke since they ghost you every time you request it.
CANCELATION is not an option
I can only repeat what so many others have written.
Horrible customer service and no option to cancel subscription.
Only if you cancel your payment service by yourself

request (#2013844)
No cancellation option
As other reviews have mentioned, this company doesn't allow you to cancel and doesn't respond to any emails requesting cancellation.
I took out a trial and cancelled on the very first day as it didn't serve the purpose I was trying it for. Because I noticed the wording around the only potential cancellation option was dubious (something like "you can cancel your account but your subscription will still be running" - although I checked and it told me I had no subscriptions anyway), I emailed them on the same day I took out and cancelled the trial to confirm it would be cancelled. No answer, and one week later I got charged for a year. I've had one reply back offering to refund me but that was a month ago and since then they've gone silent. I've asked Amex to refund me and have reported them to Trading Standards.
Get Around HMA VPA Deception/Fraud Charging
HMA VPN engaged in deception and fraud in efforts to keep charging me. I was able to withdraw and cancel because I kept impeccable records and purchased with AmEx, we have the card that gets paid in full every month and have disputed very few charges so AmEx has been great help.
If you purchased HMA VPN directly from their website the payment from the credit card goes to another company called 2Checkout.com (tho I think their name is changing.)
First, I got a 1 month notice to cancel “automatic renewal” if I didn’t still need their services, which I went to cancel because, to be brief, I hadn’t used the service for almost a year. I followed the prompts and learned that they removed the feature from my account dashboard to cancel the automatic renewal. I guess a lot of people buy through paypal so they try to get people to doubt their sanity. The bizarre thing is that no one can buy directly through HMA VPN as the payment plug-in is subbed out to a company in California.
I contacted the HMA VPN to report the problem with the account dashboard, the missing cancellation plug-in, and confirmed I purchased from HMA VPN. No one responded. I made three more email attempts to their help desk to cancel and more crickets. Then I saw the charge on my AmEx. I then called AmEx to report the deceptive business practices by HMA VPN, multiple documented efforts to cancel, and confirmed I wasn’t using the service.
Then, based on my husband’s advice - cause in the act of charging us the business wrote on the “receipt” that it was consent to be charged. Unbelievable. I finally got HMA VPN to respond. I did a customer service request for records and when someone at the same help desk email address responded within days to ask for more information I did a bait and switch on them and gave the information on the account auto renewal subscription I’d been trying to cancel since April 2023.
From what I can tell from the plentiful time I wasted on this is that HMA VPN fraudulently charges customers by alleging it is not the payment processor. We feel sorry for people with Paypal, at least since I purchase from their website, even though it was their “contactor”, they had to fix it, which they allegedly did on about June 8, 2023. I will be watching for all vendors charging me between April and June 2024 — their alerts even state they can charge the auto renewals early. These predatory auto renewal “subscriptions” need to stop.
