Hertz has been pretty great, but the speed of getting cars is just annoyingly slow. I have rented cars twice in the last month, one at the IAD airport where it took me almost an hour to get a car. An... See more

Never again!
I had a bad experience with Hertz last summer when they claimed I had damaged my rental car even though I had photo proof that the damage was pre-existing. We had a lot of back and forth and it wasn’t until I shared the photos publicly on social media that they acquiesced and refunded me my deposit.
Because they have a good reputation I put that experience down to a blip in service and rented with them again this summer. The car was returned and they confirmed everything was OK and that my deposit would be returned.
I waited 2 weeks before following it up as I know it can sometimes take up to 10 days for it to show back on my card. I emailed. No reply, emailed again. No reply, emailed again, no reply…. This went on for 2 weeks. No reply. This had quite significant consequences for me as their hold on my card meant I didn’t have sufficient funds to collect my next hire car which left me stranded at the airport with 2 young kids.
100% fail rate from Hertz. I won’t be giving them a third chance.
They charge loyal customers more than they charge general public
Beware, when booking a car from Hertz in Ireland. (This may apply to other countries as well, I haven't checked.) I have been a Hertz gold member for many years. Every time I rent a car in Ireland, the rate offered to the general public has been lower than the rate I am offered when I log in as a Hertz Gold member.
The service at the location I regularly use is excellent and the staff are wonderful. It's just really annoying to have a company deliberately overcharge loyal customers like this.
Hertz Gatwick are the worst car rental…
Hertz Gatwick are the worst car rental company as they let you purchase a vehicle online . Consumers thinks they are collecting this vehicle arrive just to be told this vehicle is unavailable but another one can be purchased at a higher price and there is no other option! This company is misleading its consumers and there is no honesty or transparency . The brand has lost its credibility . The staff are no more than used cars sales persons .
We rented a car for nearly two weeks
We rented a car for nearly two weeks. The location did not have what we requested. But the Customer Care contacts made sure we received a proper refund and they were in touch with us promptly and did not make us wait.
The car we rented was excellent
The car we rented was excellent - small model and everything worked well. It drove well and met our needs. The staff was helpful with directions, explanations but allow yourself extra time when picking up the car; there was a line when we got there. The location is right in a busy area so the driving is a little hectic at first - just getting in and out of the below ground parking lot is a challenge. All things considered, it was a good value.
90 min wait no staff hopeless
We arrived a Palma airport to be told there is at least a 90 min wait to pick up a car hopeless it is 1630 on a Sunday they only have x3 members of staff. They know exactly how many bookings they have. Totally useless will never book with them again.
Scammers and con artists
Scammers and con artists. They took €1,271.45 from my deposit for damage to the windshield, which was only a small, almost invisible chip. It could have been repaired with a special resin, not a full windshield replacement, which would have cost €300-600 anyway. Of course, I could have covered the cost of the windshield repair, which would have been proportionate to the damage, not such an astronomical sum. Furthermore, I'd never seen these chips before, so it's very possible I didn't contribute to them. I didn't receive a detailed photo of the windshield before renting the car. It's suspicious. It's possible the chip was there before, but they're trying to pin the blame on me.
Ignorant Agent at counter
My "reserved" car pickup time "10:00AM". Arrived at that exact time in line. A few folks ahead, and by 10:15, my turn at counter... Agent tells me there are no cars, EXCEPT the one I can UPGRADE to for 40 bux extra. UMM NO! After another full hour of waiting (+ me going up to the counter and complaining) I finally get a car. Which ended up being that larger vehicle that they TRIED to have me pay extra for. SO it's obvious they HAD a car to give me earlier, but were NOT doing the right thing. NOT MY FAULT they don't RESERVE the type of car I was paying for..Total ignorance!
I was charged €1,300.20 after a 22-hour…
I was charged €1,300 after a 22-hour rental for an alleged roof dent and €150 in 'smoking' costs at Luxembourg Airport. I disputed both charges. The vehicle's pre-rental report did not contain a clear photograph of the centre of the roof, and the photographs supplied as evidence of the alleged dent did not clearly demonstrate it. I have requested the underlying pre-rental photographs, inspection records and repair documentation. The proof they sent of the suppose dent cannot even be seen in the pictures. I also disputed the smoke charge because the vehicle already had a pungent cigarette smell when collected, and neither my partner nor I smoke. Mind you, I hired two travel seats from them for my one and two year old babies and they accused me of smoking in the car. The matter is currently formally disputed with Hertz, I have yet to receive a response
Hours waiting at Boston airport rental
Spent hours waiting at the Logan airport rental. It’s insane they would understaff it so much they can’t even service it. There was effectively 1.5 people there. All other brands could take people virtually immediately (it’s pretty shocking in local where you can see them all side by side).
I won’t book Hertz again for sure, this is some of the worst customer service I’ve ever seen…
I've been using Hertz for years and…
I've been using Hertz for years and would have given them 5 stars in the past, but the new "AI" damage system, now drops them to 1 star (zero if that were possible).
I return the car at HNL airport on Dec 14 at 11:18 AM HST and it was scanned by this new UVeye machine. Real humans direct me where to park. I get my things and wait next to the car for a REAL HUMAN to check me out, as I've done countless times in the past when returning my car to Hertz. In the next row over, a REAL HUMAN Hertz employees tells me loudly, "You don't have to wait. Just leave the key inside". I reply, "OK, the key is in the cupholder"... and I get on the shuttle bus back to the terminal to catch my flight...
As we are getting ready to board the flight, at 12:12 PM HST, I get a txt message stating that "New Damage was detected on your Hertz Rental".
The system waiting almost an hour to send this message, rather than notify me in a timely manner so that I and a Hertz rep could examine the damage together before I let the Hertz facility.
The report includes one photo, and there is no visible damage to the car. The report also shows 3 prior damage incidents before I picked up the car.
One thing for sure, I will never accept a black or unwashed car again, so I can examine for prior damage.
Washington Union Station.
Abysmal service. Vehicle was downgraded without change of price. My wife actually wasn't put on as an additional driver - good thing we phoned back during the trip. And customer service later not helping at all. Never again.
We specifically chose Hertz because…
We specifically chose Hertz because they offered "Polestar 2 or similar electric vehicle" as an option. When we showed up they had no electric car and we were offered a Diesel. The manager then took 3 days to respond to our email, and offered no compensation, but the option of driving back to Bilbao and replacing the diesel car we had with an electric (not a Polestar 2, a Renault 5 with much less range). We declined, as it would have been a 10 hour roundtrip and it was the day before we were to head back to Bilbao and return the car anyway. Can't recommend Hertz at all if you think a 'reservation' actually means they'll hold the vehicle you reserved, and not just offer you something completely different.
Mubarak is a great asset to Hertz
Mubarak is a great asset to Hertz. He is a true reflection of how great customer service shouldn’t be like.
I will definitely return to Hertz because of ppl like Mubarak and his colleagues.
Excellent service Alwayz
Van rental
I wasted over an hour calling various numbers—including the one listed on their website—but no one answered; I simply lost time and money. Even though my account was verified, the van was never used—I was left with nothing but frustration and the cost of renting from another company.
I always a great selection with Hertz
I always rent with Hertz. Always have a great selection of cars in the Presidential Circle area. Only thing would be if they could clean the inside of the front windows better.
There was no one at the counter
There was no one at the counter. We had to wait about 30 minutes before someone arrived. The gas tank wasn't full when we picked it up, and they charged us for not returning it full.
I tried to pick up my prepaid…
I tried to pick up my prepaid reservation last night in Orlando Airport. The branch wouldn't let me get the car because of an error in their system. They weren't sure that I had already paid.
I have paid though, and I have confirmed this with my bank.
This is jeopardising the whole vacation, for my pregnant wife and me, as we are on a tight schedule.
The Orlando branch kept referring me to managers and costumer support phone numbers and I have now spoken to 10 different people from there and on the phone.
No one seems to be wanting to help me. This will probably end up with a chargeback for fraud if I don't get the car today.
