Terrible account administration from HO

Lovely staff at my local gym but unfortunately, poor systems and lack of CS members to deal with their system issues, let them down. They reactivated a cancelled membership then sent emails demanding payment and admin fees. Frustratingly when you do cancel, it only shows on their platform, so if they make your account active, it never looked like you cancelled in the first place. All I can say is, there are plenty of other gyms that provide better customer service, and if you do cancel with these guys, make sure you get it in writing.

PLEASE BE AWARE THEY SCAM!!!

IF I COULD GIVE LESS I WOULD PLEASE BE AWARE THEY SCAM!!!! LIZ IS SO RUDE. I signed up to a gym which uses harlands to collect payment and it’s been an absolute nightmare. When they went to take the first payment it never even got attempted to be taken from my bank and they told me I hadn’t paid and I had to pay 25 late payment fee even though they never tried to take it - later they said they didn’t have my bank details which I provided to my gym when I started. They refused to remove the late payment fee so I contacted my gym and the closed my account and just set up another one so I didn’t have to pay this as this was never my fault. The staff are so rude cut you off and do not listen. So my new membership had now been set up and I thought everything was fine until the same thing happens again the next month so I had to give my bank details again and I was charged 25 for a late payment fee which was NEVER my fault. So I paid it but now the park worst bit of all the direct debt was now set up and they took the money but when it came to the next month which I needed to pay it come out my bank via direct debt. I paid so I had thought everything was fine until they contacted me again to say I’ve not paid but I had I even sent my bank statement to proof this. They blocked my access to the gym for and this has taken two weeks to sort out so it’s fraud. When I told the staff I’ve paid and sent them proof she cut me off and I had to contact my gym. I had to contact my bank for further proof it had been paid and they still were not having it. They wanted me to pay again and re set up my direct debt. Not only couldn’t I use my gym which I already paid for but they wanted more money out of me!!! This is fraud so I’ve cancelled my membership and will never use anyone who use harlands again. They are robbing people and it’s disgusting. STAY AWAY PLEASE THE STAFF ARE AWFUL AND DO THINGS TO HET YOUR MONEY!!!

If I could give a minus I would.

If I could give a minus I would.
Places Leisure (gym) works alongside Harlands Group, they collect money from the memberships, therefore if you want to cancel your membership you have to go through Harlands group. Harlands group has shocking customer service, will not pick up the phone or reply to emails. I have only received automated emails threatening charges to my account after expressing that I wanted to cancel. Places Leisure/ Harlands Group owe me my initial joining fee as I requested to cancel within the 14 day cooling-off period. I haven't been refunded despite multiple emails, and I have been charged an unnecessary £51 due to them NOT cancelling my membership as asked, and charging me an extra month + administration fees. Disgusting customer service, as I said, would rate a minus if I could...

If I could give a minus rating, I would

If I could give a minus I would, shameful customer care, I have been trying to contact customer services since 12th August via email and phone to no avail. today is 27th August, and still no response. I wanted a refund for deduction of membership whilst my account is on freeze until 8th September. Nobody replies to any emails, aside from the automatic response saying they are very busy and will respond within 5 working days, no-one picks up the phone even after being on hold for 45 minutes, then I was cut off, I contacted my Gym, and they say there is nothing they can do. Where is the customer protection in all this?

I’m having trouble with this company

I’m having trouble with this company, just awful. My membership has been cancelled and for some reason they couldn’t take payment by DD in July which was my last payment, I had email to say they are charging me an extra £20 because my payment didn’t go through no idea why because the funds we’re there. I sent a cheque for the £45 and now they are after more money, it is doing my head in now. Just horrendous company and the customer service is rubbish.

Have been trying to contact customer support to no avail

Have been trying to contact customer services for many days via phone and email to no avail. I wanted to unfreeze my membership as I have been charged for the month but been suspended from using the gym facilities. Nobody replies to any emails or picks up the phone even after being on hold for 45 minutes

Company very slow but had good customer service from Carl

I signed up to the gym but changed my mind. I was told to email harlands to cancel so I did, I thought that would be that. Didn’t hear anything back so had to ring up. After being on hold to some awful Annemarie songs 😂 I finally got through to Carl who was amazing and cancelled it for me. He’s great but the firm itself should work harder to reply to people or just don’t have so many gyms on their books.

I was a bit worried after reading all the negative reviews (i wished to cancel my Gym membership) & my email went unreplied to - but after holding on the phone for 15mins, i managed to speak to a helpful person (michal) who assured me it would all be cancelled properly (i received a confirmation email shorty after the call ended) - So i'll keep an eye on the direct debit, but if its all cancelled then all good. (but obviously if they end up taking another Direct Debit payment i shall be back to leave a 1 star review :)

Avoid if you can, very poor customer service

Harland group is a total joke.
Rude and unprofessional advisers, very poor customer service.
They put you on hold for long minutes, when they reconnect they hang up on you.....
Their website freemembership.co.uk does not exist but the advisor encourages you to make payments through it.

One month later they started weekly sent me emails that I am due to pay more than £150 for a gym membership cancelation.
Radicules.....

Total disgrace !!!!

Awful.

Awful.

They lied to me when I rang their phoneline and cancelled my gym membership. Carried on charging me for over a year. Wouldn't take the next call I made without trying to get loads of additional details from me.

Something is rotten in the state of Harlands.

Absolutely despicable service

Absolutely despicable service. They quote '7 days to respond to an email' which is already terrible, but don't even hit that target. Phone calls never make it through. Online contact form leads to a 404 error page. I reinstated a DD after it was cancelled with 10 days before it was due to be taken they didn't actually process it in time and now I have to pay a £20 surcharge... This company should be shut down for how they handle customer service.

Never answer emails

Never answer emails; phone calls disconnected after 10 minutes. Never correct direct debits when subscriptions change. Took money during lockdown when facilities were closed. Absolutely rotten to the core business with no pride!

AVOID LIKE A PLAGUE

I used the Places Leisure Centre for gym sessions, I took the flexible membership and after a month decided to cancel. On emailing them, they refered me to Harlands, who asked me to pay a full months membership, which I was happy to do. However I was unhappy with the £20 charge just for a cancelled direct debit. A few weeks later this was £60 charge on top of the £28. I rang them and was referred to Lorraine, after a very difficult conversation I offered to pay the £28 which I believe was the only genuine charge, I was refused. She offered to only charge me £40 instead of £60 in addition to the original £28. This company has refused any payments from me for £28. I had to seek legal counsel and still not yet resolved. AVOID places that use this firm like a plague, save yourself the hassle. I decided that I will only pay the £28 and if they continue to refuse this, then nothing will be paid.

18 yr old son accidently signed up for gym membership without understanding or realising he was signing an ongoing Direct Debit. This company threatened him and refused to help him when he asked to cancel. Absolutely disgusted with this companies treatment of a young vulnerable boy, AVOID at all costs unless you want grief.
