"Beware" My Honest Experience With Hangzhou on Alibaba and— Be Very Careful with this supplier (Order Held for over 1 year and NOT yet received.
I have been using Alibaba for many years, and the platform today is nothing like it used to be. What has happened to us is extremely disappointing and has cost our business huge time and money.
We placed an order for simple fountain candle party products back in March 2024. The supplier promised delivery to the UK in no more than 60 days.
It has now been over 16 months — and we still have NOT received anything.
Throughout this time:
The supplier kept telling us the items were “in production,” but never produced any designs, samples, or progress.
We replied immediately every time (all proven in chat history) and kept asking for updates every few days.
The supplier later changed the agreement from 20,400 pairs to 20,400 single pieces, which was not what we agreed on.
We finally asked Alibaba for our refund, which should have been straightforward because the supplier never shipped anything at all.
Instead of helping us, Alibaba sided with the supplier.
The dispute team repeatedly sent us the same messages and kept delaying the case.
They even claimed we “did not provide evidence,” although we uploaded over 40 pieces of proof, including all chat screenshots.
In the end, Alibaba closed the dispute, told us to “deal with the supplier directly,” and refused to return our money — even though nothing was produced, nothing was shipped, and the supplier failed the contract completely.
Our funds have now been blocked for over a year, and Alibaba has done absolutely nothing to protect us.
To anyone considering using Alibaba:
⚠️ Be extremely careful. The platform does NOT protect buyers anymore.
⚠️ All customer service agents are automated or scripted.
⚠️ Dispute resolution is extremely poor, slow, and biased.
⚠️ Even Trade Assurance means nothing if Alibaba decides to side with the supplier.
⚠️ You can lose your money and your time — just like we did.
We used to trust Alibaba, but after this experience, we strongly advise others to think twice before placing orders or paying deposits.
Do NOT subscribe to any paid membership — it offers no real protection.
Our business money has been stuck for 16+ months for a small order that was never produced. This should never happen on a global platform
