Breakfast

Had a full English at Gordon Riggs cafe, was very expensive so was expecting something decent for the money. It was very sparse with no extras like black pudding, the mushrooms were greasy and the tomatoes looked tiny as they were cherry tomatoes and only had 3 on the plate. I had to buy a separate tea. The spoons were stained and looked very tired. The plate came warm which was good. The staff were kind and helpful. Come on Riggs you can do so much better than this.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you found our staff kind and helpful and that your breakfast was served on a warm plate.

We are sorry to hear that aspects of your visit did not meet your expectations. We would just like to clarify that black pudding is included with our large breakfast but not with the smaller breakfast which is presumably what you ordered. The contents of each breakfast are listed clearly on our menu.

That said, we appreciate that value for money and presentation are very important and we are disappointed to hear that some elements of your breakfast fell short, particularly the mushrooms and cutlery. Your comments will be shared with our café team so they can be reviewed.

We do appreciate all feedback, as it helps us continue to improve, and we hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future.

Large with great stock

The garden centre is large with a great stock of plants, garden accessories and pots.
The garden centre has a nice restaurant with an outside seating area, however, the prices in the restaurant are very high, with an egg sandwich costing £10.99!
I will still use the garden centre, but unfortunately, I'll be going elswhere for lunch.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoy our garden centre, plant selection and tea room with its outdoor seating area.

We are sorry to hear that you felt our café prices were too high. We always aim to offer high-quality ingredients, generous portions and a comfortable dining experience. We also conduct regular market research to ensure our pricing remains competitive with similar establishments, although we appreciate that opinions on value for money can differ from person to person.

We do appreciate you continuing to support the garden centre and thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

You are absolutely right — scrambled eggs should have been offered as an alternative and we apologise that this option was not made available to you at the time. This was an error on our part and not the level of flexibility or service we aim to provide.

We’ve addressed this with our café team to ensure they’re clear on what substitutions can be made, so this situation doesn’t happen again. Thank you for bringing it to our attention, as feedback like this genuinely helps us improve.

We hope you’ll consider visiting us again and allow us the opportunity to give you a much better experience next time.

Cafe food

Edited: 19th February 2026
Gordon Riggs were quick to reply to my complaint, however, their comment asking us to respond by email was ignored. I don’t understand why they asked us to email them when they do not respond.

We visited the garden centre cafe on 1st February 2026 and have to say we were very disappointed with the food we received.
I ordered pie of the day, which was cheese and onion pie with chips and beans.
The pie was of very poor quality. It was just a tasteless purée, half an inch deep with an open space before the crust. I have never eaten cheese and onion pie which tasted like this. The chips supplied were only warm. I paid £14.99 for this pie and have eaten much better quality pies at reputable restaurants in the same area for less than this cost.
Overall experience was much less than previous times we have visited this garden centre.

*Mr Garner - we are very sorry, we don't seem to have received an email from you*

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We’re very sorry to hear that your visit to our garden centre café on 1st February was disappointing, particularly as you’ve enjoyed previous visits with us.

We regret that the pie of the day did not meet the standard you rightly expected, both in terms of quality and temperature, and we understand your frustration given the price paid. This is certainly not the experience we aim to provide, and your comments about the filling and the chips have been shared with our kitchen team so they can be reviewed and addressed.

We value returning customers greatly, so it’s especially disappointing to hear that this visit fell short compared with earlier ones. If you would be willing to contact us directly, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss your experience further and try to put things right. Please email info@gordonrigg.com.

Thank you again for your feedback — it helps us improve, and we hope we might have the chance to restore your confidence in us in the future.

Really excellent customer service today…

Really excellent customer service today at the Rochdale store from Anthony. This year I went on my own to pick a Christmas tree as my partner has broken his arm and had been worried about picking up the tree and getting it in the car myself. Anthony was approachable and friendly and could not have been more helpful. He went out of his way to help me to choose a tree, trimmed off the surplus branches at the bottom of the tree and then put the tree into my car. 10/10

We’re very sorry to hear about your experience, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We understand how frustrating it is when a product doesn’t work as expected—especially seasonal items like Christmas lights.

We’d like to reassure you that we source all our Christmas lights from reputable, long-standing suppliers who meet strict quality standards. Faults can unfortunately still occur, but we always aim to resolve these quickly and fairly.

It’s also concerning to hear that you felt poorly treated when returning an item. That is absolutely not the standard of service we aim to provide. We will be reviewing this with our team to ensure all customers feel respected and supported.

Thank you again for your feedback.

We’re really sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy your cappuccino on your recent visit. We use Rijo beans, which are generally very popular with our customers, but of course everyone’s taste is different.

If you could please email us at info@gordonrigg.com
to let us know whether it was our Bistro, Café or Tea Room that you visited, we’ll be happy to check the coffee machine settings to make sure everything is working correctly.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know — your feedback helps us keep our standards high.

Staff really keen to help but the store procedure for online orders was a shambles

Ordered online, that was easy.
Email confirmation of my order, no collection instructions. Left it 5 days, no further contact, went to the store to see if my order was in.
Customer services had no idea as it was Saturday - collections people only work Mon-Fri. She called for Tim to help. Tim didn't know the procedure or where my order might be either. A third staff member arrived who also didn't know but commissar a hunch and came back a while later with my order.

We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience when shopping with us online. I can see on our system that you placed an order with us on the evening of the 2nd September and that your order was processed and pulled on the morning of the 3rd September. Your order was then marked as completed on our end which should have then triggered a second automated email which informed you that your order was ready to collect. I can only assume that this went in to your junk folder and so was missed. Your order was waiting for you in a designated collections area within our stores and so I'm not really sure why there was an issue retrieving your order for you. We will make sure that additional training is put in place for any member of staff who works on the customer service desk so that they know the procedure which is already in place. We apologise for any inconvenience which may have been caused and hope that this has not deterred you from shopping with us again in the future.

We are very sorry to hear that you had a negative experience when shopping with us online. I have looked in to this and it seems as though the item you ordered from us was in stock at our Todmorden branch and needed to be sent over to our Rochdale branch for collection (our website pulls stock levels from both branches). I can understand the confusion that you received an order confirmation and therefore presumed that your item would be ready for collection. When we receive an order for collection the order is processed and we make sure the stock is available in the correct location, once that has been done we mark the order as completed which then triggers another email which says 'your order is ready to collect'. We are very sorry that you had a wasted journey. We will look for a way to make it clearer that the 'ready to collect' email must be received to ensure that an order is ready to collect and avoid disappointment and we will speak to our staff to offer additional training for instances where disappointment has been caused to a customer to ensure that this is dealt with in the correct manner. We hope that this has not deterred you from shopping with us again in the future. Once again, please accept our sincere apologies.

Very disappointed

Up to now, the 25th August, the voucher I ordered has not been received by the recipient. On phoning Gordon Riggs on 22 August, I was told to wait until the weekend. I paid an amount of £1.99 for Courier service so this is very poor service on the part of Gordon Riggs. As time goes on my gift is losing its impact as it was for a special lady who did me a favour and who actually lives in Todmorden where Gordon Riggs are!!

We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience when placing an order on our website. I can see that you ordered a gift voucher with us on Sunday the 17th August and that we posted it out to you via Royal Mail 1st class post on Monday the 18th August. Unfortunately Royal Mail's 1st Class post aims for next-working-day delivery, including Saturdays, but this is not guaranteed, and delays can occur. Royal Mail do not consider post to be lost until 10 working days after the item was posted which is why we asked that you allow the post a little more time for the gift card to arrive before we posted a new gift card out to you. With regards to the cost of delivery, a first class stamp now costs £1.70 which means we charge 29p to process the order, pop it in an envelope and take it to the post office. We then rely on the Royal Mail to deliver the post and so when we hand our post over to them unfortunately it becomes out of our control. We would of course have reissued you with a new gift card and posted it out to you should you have required but I believe after waiting until after the weekend you requested a refund instead which we processed for you straight away. We hope that this experience has not deterred you from shopping with us again in the future.

When my original order was delivered it…

When my original order was delivered it was not what I asked for.
When I phoned I was told that a new order with the correct order would be sent out and there would be no extra to pay.
I think that was the a good result.
he new order arrived soon after.
