I had read good reviews for this company and the price was very competitive so we decided to go with them. We were encouraged that it said there was total insurance cover and no credit card was required.
Pickup etc was very smooth. Unfortunately a few days into our trip I scraped the side of my car while driving.
We rang to report it and asked what we should do as we wanted to follow the correct procedure. The guy on the phone was rude and dismissive, asked us to sent a photo and he'd get back to us. The next day we got an email to say the accident was not covered as we were driving on an "inappropriate road". I pointed out that he had not asked us the location that the accident occured.
He then changed tact and said that we failed to call the police who would have breathalised us and without this breathaliser result the insurance wouldn't cover us. I pointed out that this was a scrape and that we couldn't have been expected to call the police where the only damage was to our own car and there was no other vehicle involved.
After several hours of back and forth, he became increasingly unprofessional and told us that this is how it works in Madeira so to avoid further stress we agreed to pay the several hundred euro.
I would advise anyone to please stay away from this company, while it may seem like you are fully covered - if anything goes wrong they will find a way to say you aren't covered to get the money out of you. Pay a bit extra to go with a recognised car company and have the comfort of dealing with a professional business.
