Useless, Disgusting, Horrendous

Have been with free for six months and had no internet. Have tried to set up multiple appointments to which they never turn up. Yet they have still been taking my money. Absolutely disgusting and awful company. Avoid at all costs.

Slower than a dead tortoise

Box arrived, plugged in, after a couple of days the line came up. 1Mbs download, 0.4 upload with their most expensive supposedly best box, range of wifi barely the other end of the sofa.
Looked for support, cant have any without the right 'ID', ffks in this day and age any company hiding away from having a support email, phone and so on available to anyone who needs it should just be drummed out of business.
The other reviews about their cancellation troubles now worry the hell out of me.

The WORST provider, TOTAL SCAM

Free is the LEAST professional provider I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with.
After years of TERRIBLE service and no customer service, I cancelled my subscription (which was a whole ordeal in itself).
Free then helped itself to 250 euros out of my bank account claiming that I hadn't returned the box, even though I had.
I provided them with proof several times, each time having to send registered letters (in this day and age!). Free is a total SCAM. If you cancel your subscription at any time, unless you block them from your account they WILL steal money from you and you will NEVER get it back.
When I tried to reason with them on the phone they straight up insulted me, I've never come across anything like it before.
I just can't believe that Free are legally allowed to operate in France despite blatantly committing fraud.

The ways Free use to cheat Customers who cancel contracts

The ways Free use to cheat Customers who cancel a new mobile contract despite a 14 day change of mind promise:
1. Cancellation is only accepted by post using a downloaded form. This allows Free to deny receipt and / or extend the date of receipt beyond the 14 days.
2. The Free agent refuses to state the date of receipt of cancellation.
3. The Free agent hangs up phone call early so that calls are not recorded and the satisfaction survey is not activated.

The details:
I took out a Série Free mobile subscription for 8.99 euros per month on 31st May 2022. I received the SIM but not the second letter with the activate code. I was unable to connect. I sent notice of cancellation of contract within the 14 days allowed by Free. However I was still charged the 8.99 euros. Querying this by telephone I was told it would not be reimbursed.
The Free process:
1. Free only accepts cancellations by posting a form to the cancellations department. This was done on the 10th June with proof of posting using La Poste "Recommande avec Avis de Reception"
2. Free did not acknowledgement receipt.
3. The Free June statement indicated the 8.99 had been charged.
3. I called Free on the 28th June to query the charge. I was told that it would not be reimbursed. I asked the date that Free received the form. The lady refused to tell me the date.
4. The lady then hung up so that the call would not be recorded and the satisfaction survey would not be activated.

Useless company.

I have spent all morning trying to cancel our accounts for Freebox and mobile phone. The WhatsApp service you are supposed to be able to contact them with has no one to answer and is useless. When eventually I get through to the résiliation service after numerous hoops to pass through they say a lettre recommandée is necessary as they can't do it over the phone! Totally hopeless and one star is too good for this inept company.

24th march 2022 Heating Oil Rip Off

24th march 2022, Received a delivery of my order of 500 liters of heating oil. I was charged £1: 36.5p per litre, at least 5 deliveries for the same amount of heating oil in my local area in N Wales on the same day were charged £1: 06p per litre... These were different companies to mine..CUNNAH OIL, based at Wrexham, whom I've been a customer with them for some 10 yrs. Loyalty counts for nothing it would appear! So life lesson folks..vote with your feet, and ensure you give the heads up to as many as possible so they don't suffer the same treatment.

Poor internet (fibre) and awful support

Poor internet (fibre), poor support service. Avoid. They have just cut costs on the technical support replacing the phone services with online chat and leaving voice messages for calls. Chat support online does not work for everyone (and when it worked, responses were slow and generic), I had to leave a voice message so that they call me back - and they did not call me back after my first vm. Technical manager convinced me that I should buy a wifi amplifier becasue my connection was cutting all the time (total bs I tired to protests but he said he is 100% sure). Of course it did not help, so wasted money and time. Moving to another provider asap.

Free are complete rubbish and they don't care.

So after 18 months back with Free for my internet and mobile phone and a few 'coupures' which lasted from a few minutes to a few hours to the internet, I've had no internet/phone/TV for 10 days now. I reported it immediately to Free and their help site shows I did so. Nothing happened for a while. On Thursday I got a weird e-mail saying "We've changed the 'débit' of your internet as requested! You're welcome!" Of course I'd asked for no such thing. I tried calling a few times, but all their automated line says is "We're working to repair your line, please be patient." Well, I have no choice do I?
I thought of changing suppliers - I went first to SFR as they're installing the Fibre in our village so I thought that would be easiest. But after going through the sign up process they sent an e-mail demanding a deposit of €250. What? So I cancelled that and went to Orange - who demanded €270 up front.
On Monday, so a week after being cut off completely, I got an SMS and e-mail from Free saying I needed to make an appointment to have an engineer call round, but when I clicked the link it just said, "Hey we've got this! Thanks for your patience!" N'importe quoi.
And then about an hour later I got a telephone call from 'Justine' (not her real name - I asked, she said it wasn't her name) saying I needed to make an appointment. I was EXTREMELY polite, saying I'd been cut off for a week and didn't she think it would be nice to start with an apology? "Apologies aren't my department," she explained. She was unable to put me through to the department which handles apologies, though, and so Free remain unapologetic. And when I said "So what about this appointment I need?" she said "Our engineers are in the area, they'll be in touch." And she hung up.
Today I've received another e-mail and SMS telling me to make an appointment, and this time it leads to a page which allows me to make one - for Friday 31st, so 11 days after I got cut off. We'll see what happens.
In the meantime I've found the Sosh page and have signed up for ADSL with them and, so far, they haven't asked me to forward them my life savings, any limbs or my first-born to guarantee that I won't do something awful with their equipment. €19.99 a month, no obligation.
Oh, and all this nonsense with Free was the month after my 'initial offer' of €19.99 a month ran out and they started to help themselves to €42/month instead. So now I've blocked them from taking any more.
We'll see what happens. I used Free decades ago when they first launched and for many years they won the 'Best customer service' award because their customer service was always excellent. Now they don't even respond to nasty criticisms on Twitter or Facebook or Trustpilot or Google. So, stay away if you can.
I understand that internet service providers are like banks - they're all just OK until they mess up, but Free are really going out of their way here to annoy on purpose and they clearly don't care about the criticisms I see many making of them these days. And I also understand that many of you will have had great experiences with them and a horrible time with Sosh, thanks for your opinion, my experience is different so far. The big problem for me with Free is that once you've told them 'This is broken' there's literally no other way to get hold of them or do anything because their automated systems say 'We've got this, be patient' no matter what you try. I'm sure others aren't any better, which means the only way to protest is to take your custom elsewhere.
Happy New Year everyone.

Customer focus

Customer focus - non existant.

This last week not having had internet which also meant no TV whilst I work from home (whilst in France) made life really uncomfortable.

Free customer services were not unpleasant to speak too but very pre programmed almost robotic in responding(makes me see why automation is so easy these days). The lack of a person taking on the responsability of the issue I have has resulted me in now switching to another provider.

My internet stopped on Saturday afternoon whilst my kids (3&5yrs old) were watching a movie via Netflix. I called and was told a technician will look at the case remotely. Sunday I called again to find out the progress - same response! Monday the day I start working…I get told Sir technicians don’t work in the weekend and they have the right to a weekend too(great customer service response after the client (me) realises I was mislead over the weekend!) called four times on the Monday to follow up - was told bluntly that my calling four times would not help the matter as technicians are working on the issue and I must simply be patient. No solution offered whilst I must continue my work (which gives me the money to pay these people!). Tuesday I call and now only get a recording, no longer can I speak to a person. Wednesday I call and I now speak to a person as the issue with my internet connection is now a « collective » issue and the issue will take a week at least to be rectified. Again no solution offered for my internet needs. I call my mobile supplier and am given a solution - so I decide time to switch provider. I call to cancel my subscription and I am told I need to write a letter to cancel this and that I must write down the address ( as they will not send it via an e-mail, why God only knows). Then they give you info that an automated e-mail will be sent to you 72hours later (why so long - because this process is automated and the robotic customer services humans cannot override it!)

So I now have to write a letter to cancel my subscription. Fill in forms and post a complaint and a claim and wait 72 hours to get a mail so I can send back the boxes.

Free really does a great job in making cancelling a contract difficult - they also don’t seem to realise that by doing so they only help the customer that he/she is making the right choice in leaving.

Advice to anyone - pay the slightly higher price and get better internet from another provider as the time you will waste with free will probably cost you more!

Free management - try listening to your customers occassionaly. It helps growth.

The worst internet ever

The worst internet ever. I don't know how to get out of this. I had a bad experience with Orange, so I had no other choice but to sign up with Free as they are the only 2 fiber providers in my building. Still waiting for the freebox after a week. My appointment to install internet is coming up and I still don't have the box. Their phone signal is worst than Lycamobile. Hotspot is in and out and it is so annoying as I work remotely a lot

Cancellation is impossible from outside France.

Free.fr make unsubscribing so excruciatingly difficult that I am certain they are breaking the law. I moved from France to Italy before calling to cancel my Freebox subscription and was told, by two separate customer support reps, that there is absolutely no way to call from outside France and (I quote) "To ask a friend in France to call for me". From any company this would be dubious behaviour but a from a telecommunications company this is unbelievable! The deliberate obstructions to cancellation don't end there. Having finally arranged for a friend to call (numerous times and on hold for 25 minutes) I was sent an email with a link to upload my cancellation letter. This was then totally ignored, twice, and now, four months and €120 later I am still unable to cancel my account, even after sending the documents by registered post from Italy. Avoid FREE at all costs, especially if you are not planning to live out your entire life in France, withour ever leaving.
