Plenty of Alternative Options
I have been a user of Survey Monkey for many years. Some of their features are a bit restricted, so I decided to try several other providers to see if they were any better. One such provider was Fluid Surveys. I choose them as well as several others, using the "Free" versions so that I could get a good feel for what they offer.
Of all tested, Fluid surveys was far and away the worst. Their functionality is marginally better than Survey Monkey. However, they have what I would describe as an underhand way of getting you hooked: i.e. Allow you create and conduct the survey for free, but charge you if you want to do any serious analysis on it. Even the most basic expected functionality of being able to export to Excel comes at a cost! Unsurprisingly this wasn't made clear during the sign up process.
Luckily it was just one of several I had tried so not too bothered about it. However, if I was a first time survey maker and had generated a reasonable number of responses, they would have me over a barrel. If you are familiar with Ryanair in Europe, then you'll be familiar with such tactics and will know to go elsewhere :-)
