They are scamming people

They are scamming people. In my experience, this company operates in a way that raises serious concerns about its transparency and professionalism. It is run by a very small, tightly controlled team, with limited openness in how they handle client interactions. When I raised questions about their practices, my account was blocked rather than addressed, which I found concerning and unprofessional. Instead of engaging with legitimate concerns, they avoid accountability. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this company.

Best place to buy or sell online businesses

Unsolicited marketing & GDPR violation – Official complaints filed globally

I am reporting Flippa.com for sending unsolicited marketing emails (SPAM) to my private email address. I received a "cold" outreach from a "Steven Kelly" claiming to have buyers for my domain, and urging me to use their valuation chatbot.

I have never interacted with Flippa.com, created an account, or consented to receive any communication from them. Harvesting my personal data and domain information to send targeted marketing offers without explicit "opt-in" consent is a direct violation of:

GDPR (Europe)

The Danish Marketing Practices Act

The CAN-SPAM Act (USA)

The Spam Act 2003 (Australia)

Due to this blatant disregard for privacy laws, I have taken the following actions:

Filed a formal complaint with the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet).

Reported this case to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the US (Ref: Steven Kelly, Austin, TX).

Filed a report with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Initiated a formal police report regarding the illegal acquisition and processing of my personal data.

Flippa.com needs to understand that "cold emailing" EU citizens for commercial gain without consent is illegal. I demand the immediate deletion of all my data from your systems.

They banned our account after we paid for 10 listings

We sold an app, and after the sale, Flippa support asked the company owner to create her own Flippa account and complete identity verification so they could release the payout. She created the account, tried to verify, and her account was instantly banned.

We asked the support what happened. They refused to explain anything and kept sending the same generic ToS message plus the line “We don’t share the specific reason but you can be rest assured that we only ban customers where we are substantially concerned about the actions that have taken place.”
No specifics at all.

Then they released the payment and banned our main account immediately after that - the one we’ve been using for ~3 months, fully KYC’d, paid for ~10 listings, closed a successful sale, and even got a positive review. Again, no explanation, no appeal, no escalation path.

Unfortunately, we have banned your account. Refunds have been processed for listing package fee payments which were paid for listings which were suspended at the time of your account ban or where sales were recently created and were not successfully completed.

We may permanently remove Flippa account access when we determine there are serious ethical violations and/or those of our Terms. These include, but are not limited to:
- links to previously sanctioned accounts
- shill bidding to artificially increase the sale price
- intent to take deals outside Flippa
- self-promotional or abusive messages
- false claims of identity, false claims of performance, or ownership of listed assets or other listing integrity issues
- excessive lost disputes

We do ban accounts from time to time, and this will relate to a breach or perceived breach of Flippa’s Terms of Service. We do this vigilantly as a way of maintaining and protecting a global and vibrant marketplace.
