Sold me a BMW with a dodgy MOT

Sold me a BMW with a dodgy MOT, corroding /rusting break disks, broken tyre sensors, lied about the mileage, thread worn tyres and knocked out alignment on my front tyres.

Issues that failed the MOT initially in November 22 were exact same issues I had when I got it 200miles home and couldn’t repair. (Listed the car on website with 12 months no advisory’s… first lie attached below) But it passed an MOT in June 23 (7months not 12months) when I collected….The documents don’t lie but this dealership definitely do. All documents I have as proof and the financial ombudsman have enjoyed reviewing my complaint and all documents.

I only became aware of the Corroding/Rusting breaks when I had to pay over £600 to replace balding tyres and realign my front 2 tyres. The corrosion and rust broke from my break disk and dropped into the tyre, this then caused a loud sound when I drove. This causing me to return to the garage. The garage then diagnosed my corroding break disks and pads. Leading to proof that they are misleading and put false information on the listingsFurther proving that the MOT is dodgy as I have a diagnostics report proving the rust and corrosion. another example, they Listed the car as having 44,000 miles on the clock, then to my surprise it had an extra 2500 when I collected.

If you want to spend an extra 1/2k repairing a car, these aren’t to be trusted! Just Avoid at all cost. I have all proof of listing/MOT and service history. The physical tyre pressure sensor I had to get repaired, was handed back to me by the garage because they told me to use as evidence using serial numbers in my complaint. This proves it wasn’t repaired from the MOT it failed 7Months prior. (But even with issue not being repaired and would definitely fail the MOT, it PASSED in June, strange that). The total that was ‘explained’ to me by the garage arranged is that ‘the repair at that the sensor was never replaced in the first place and that dealerships can be dishonest and do whatever to sell cars’ (different to what you said I was in formed in your response. So second lie).

I can happily attach all proof of my claims to this review if needed 👍 (invoices and diagnostic reports all from reputable garages proving these issues). I’ve had to carry out repairs days into owning this car. I’ve had it 28 days total…. I’ll let that speak for itself.

We are very disappointed to read your review Joel after our lengthy correspondence with you. As has been explained your car had an MOT in November 2022 (when it was owned by the previous owner). The MOT history of the car shows it failed on a tyre pressure sensor. This was obviously replaced (by the previous owner) as it then passed the MOT. Just prior to your purchase we sent the car for an MOT (as we do all our vehicles). The car passed with no advisories, hence your MOT is due again in June 2024, not November 23. It wasn't due an MOT until November 23 but we send all our vehicles for an MOT prior to sale. So your car does have a 12 month MOT with no advisories.
On your way to London the TPS (tyre pressure sensor) light came on. As has been explained there are 4 sensors on the vehicle, 1 on each wheel. A sensor is either working or it isn't. Once you reported the TPS light was on, and the screen wash didn't seem to be working effectively, we were aware you weren't happy and therefore offered you a full refund. Alternatively we offered for you to take the car to your local garage for a diagnosis and full inspection. They cleaned the screenwash nozzle which just had some dirt in it and diagnosed a tyre pressure sensor to have failed. They did not report any other faults with the car. They couldn't replace the sensor themselves so we booked your car in at another local garage to you (in London). They replaced the sensor at our cost. As far as we were aware you were then happy. We also offered to pay for the car to go through another MOT in London to again reassure you the car was fit for purpose and has a full 12 months MOT. You declined a refund or a further MOT, therefore we believed you were happy. Brakes and Tyres are both part of an MOT so it is impossible for them to be in the state you claim here. The two garages local to you in London didn't report any issue with either the brakes or tyres (apart from the sensor), the independent MOT station we used in Leeds, which has been in business for more than 40 years passed the MOT with no advisories, and our technicians carried out a full pre delivery inspection with time and date documented inspection of parts such as tyres and brakes condition including measurement of tyre treads.
We are sorry you felt the need to write this review, but categorically refute your allegations.

Couldn’t recommend enough

Great motors at good prices, would 100% recommend. Dealt with a salesman called James who was extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer all my queries.

James was an excellent help from…

James was an excellent help from looking around the car allowing us to take our time looking inside and out, to which then we took the car on a test drive allowing as much time as we needed to feel out the car. To which we came back sorted all the paper work easy as can be.

All the staff at First4cars were very helpful. They have a large selection of cars, we were immediately allowed to test drive the car of our choice. Any questions we had about the car were answered promptly and efficiently. We purchased a Citreon C4 and the sale was handled efficiently. We were able to pick up thd car two days later. Very happy with our experience and delighted with the car.

The easiest car buying experience we have ever had. From start to finish through the process Ben was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble and he was a pleasure to do business with. We would not hesitate to use First4Cars again and would recommend Ben and the whole company to anyone.
