Warning: Exped Systematic Delamination & Zero Accountability

I want to share a cautionary tale regarding Exped sleeping pads. My experience shows a deeply concerning pattern of material failure (delamination/baffle failure) and a complete lack of responsibility from the company.
The Statistics (75% failure rate):
3 out of 4 of my Exped pads have delaminated.
This includes a high-end Double Pad (Duo/HL) – a significant investment that is now a "balloon" and completely useless.
The Irony: My oldest Exped pad is the only one still functioning, while the newer ones (including the expensive Duo) have failed. This suggests a drastic decline in manufacturing quality or material sourcing in recent years.
Maintenance (Zero User Error):
Pump sack ONLY: I have never used my breath to inflate these pads. No moisture from exhalation has ever entered the chambers.
Storage: Stored dry, dark, and in a climate-controlled indoor environment (wardrobe in a heated house).
These pads delaminated while stored unused, not even while out in the field.
Comfort vs. Quality:
To be fair, I want to emphasize that when these pads are intact, they are incredibly comfortable. The comfort is exactly why I bought four of them in the first place. But comfort means nothing if the product fails while stored in a closet. To everyone out there who still has a functioning Exped pad: I wish you the best of luck—you’re going to need it once the adhesive starts to age.
Exped’s Response (Headquarters in Switzerland):
Despite this being an obvious systematic material defect, Exped (including their HQ in Switzerland) refuses to take any responsibility. They strictly hide behind their 5-year warranty period, ignoring the fact that a premium "expedition" product shouldn't chemically decompose while sitting in a closet.
Conclusion:
When a pad costing hundreds of dollars literally falls apart due to adhesive failure while stored correctly, it is a defective product. Exped markets themselves as premium gear, but my experience shows they have a "best-before date" they don't tell you about. I will never buy Exped again.

Got sent defective product and asked to pay to get it 'inspected'

I spent nearly £300 on a Exped Megamat Auto mattress. When I tried to use it, it was leaky. When I informed the exped customer support team, they told me that I need to send it back at my own cost for them to 'inspect' it! So, you get sent a defective product, and for them to fix it you have to spend a lot on postage (it's a large item) just for them to 'inspect' it.

My advice is: Don't buy anything from Exped.

Exped Waterbloc -15 sleeping bag

Bought a Exped Waterbloc -15 sleeping bag in the UK. After 2 years and multiple uses I decided to clean the sleeping bag in the washing machine. After washing, I noticed that one glued area on the outer side along the seam (about 2-3 cm long)the rippstop material cracked. Upon closer inspection of my sleeping bag, I discovered that at least two of the inner seam bonding areas had partially detached , which caused the down to clump severely — likely leading to the crack . Because of this, I decided to air-dry the sleeping bag instead of using a tumble dryer.

After getting in touch with Exped in Switzerland they advised me to contact the seller in the UK since they don't produce that type of sleeping bag anymore. The costs to send the product back to UK for inspection are around EUR 55 which is just too much. I really don't get it why they are not able to fix the problem in Switzerland (the Exped headquarters are in Switzerland). Their 5 years product warranty is a bad joke. I will avoid Exped in the future!

Terrible customer service I won’t be using them again they sold me slippers that I paid postage for there guide started between a size 4-6 the were like a pair of boats you could have got three people in there and there would have been a bit of space left over when i contacted support they wouldn’t supply me with a return postage label so I paid about a 10er for absolutely nothing not the biggest deal but with customer service like that I’m not going to be dropping any decent amount of money with them again for matts etc

Good mattress until it goes wrong and bad customer service

I have had 2 Exped DownMat9. Although the mattresses are great and comfortable, on the first one the valve went after a few years. I bought another and the baffles popped half way through a trek and the down all came out. Useless and hard when you are half way through a trek. I contacted customer service and was told I needed the LOT number which I did not have. I wasn't after a replacement. I want Exped to know there is something wrong when baffles go - how do they test their products and how could they do better. Engage with customers to make your expensive products worth it. Would never buy from you again. Not good value for money unfortunately.

poor quality and overpriced

bought a versa tarp a year ago, a few months later there was already a rip in the tarp, which didn't stop.
I tried to fix it, which only helped for a while. rips started at other points, even the anchoring points. The product is overpriced hence the quality. I'll never buy anything from this company. What a waste!

Poor

There’s a lot of wasted time trying to book trips with flights that don’t match. Get flights that do match - and not returning to a different airport or in the middle of the night - and the price shoots way up. No after-sales service. It’s all sell sell sell.

Amazing customer service: Fast and Helpful

So I have had an Exped mattress for many years. The baffles that keep the air in the chambers popped. I contacted their customer service and within 24 hours had a reply of send us a picture and Lot # and we'll replace it.
I don't think it gets easier than that and that reflects on a GREAT customer service. Camping gear can always get a lot of abuse in the wilderness and a company that stands behind their product is to be commended! Great going Exped. Buy their products and know you will be taken care of.

poor quality products, terrible customers support

As soon as I received the mattress I put it in my apartment to test to sleep on it but the air went out at night.... Exped is not going to refund or send a new one. They demands that I pay to send it across Europa back and forth for repair. I will never buy any Exped stuff because of their faulty products and the worst customer service.

Extremely good product and customer service

We have an Exped matress and its not only extremely small and light but, also very comfortable. After 2 years some of the seams let loose, after which we sent it back to our retailer who sent it to Exped to be repaired. We now received a new mattress on warranty. The whole process was extremely smooth and we are very happy to have bought a product that doesn't go to waste, but can be repaired and re-used! I couldn't recommend Exped products more.

I received a faulty Exped Megamat10 and didn't got a replacement

I received a faulty Exped Megamat10 from Bergzeit, not really nice if you are camping and your matt slowly goes empty the first time you use it. So I sent it back and I got the message back from Bergzeit that I will get my money back and that Exped told them to do so. To Exped: I have 5 year warranty so I expect a new sleeping mat and not my money back! Now the prices are suddenly doubled so that seems not fair to me that I don't get a replacement matt but my money back!

Multiple frustrating issues experience.

I had multiple issues with a planned trip to Bend, OR.
I wanted to book a unit in Bend.
1-WHEN I booked my unit, the website then listed the address as being in a different town. I tried to find the town on Google Maps & it was NOT listed. I was actually placed in an area outside where I wanted to be.
2-The website informed me the unit was rented through Vrbo, so I would be required to pay an additional fee - but it did not list the amount! I had to move to the Vrbo site to find out how much additional money I would be charged.
3-The day before I was to travel to Bend, air quality was listed as extremely unhealthy. That condition was expected to last through the week. I canceled my reservation based on my health & included proof I suffer from asthma. I argued for a refund of half the almost $900 I had paid.
4-Though I had canceled, I continued to receive texts - have you arrived? everything ok? have you checked out yet? everything ok? One hand did not seem to know what the other was doing. I could not get hold of an actual customer service agent to discuss my situation.
5-I eventually received an ingratiating email, saying ... you understand, we just can't give you any money back, even though the unit sat vacant all week.
From the beginning, this experience was very frustrating and ended up being very expensive. Expedia is not a company I would recommend to a friend.

Exped poor quality and service

For the benefit of potential buyers of this company and its products
I have used Exped Backpacks and products for 10 years the quality 10 years ago was exemplary. I now can no longer recommend this company or its products as recent backpacks have not lived up to the old products manufactured 10 years ago which I still have and work well.

The quality of the backpacks is now very poor and not long lasting and do not live up to outdoor use

The customer service is indifferent and not supportive

Beware and purchase elsewhere

Watch out for other scamming webshops.

I see that the website (ww.exped.comenhomepage) is a legit and official website. But they dont have an own webshop, like (ww.exped-store.nl/). This is a scam website. So if you want to buy something of exped search for your local dealer in here (ww.exped.comendealer). So you dont get scammed and get the superbe products of Exped.

Exped Synmat Hyperlite LW sleeping mat

We bought 2 Synmat mummystyle Hyperlite LW mats in 2016 for cycling holidays; one blew 2 baffles after 2 years(8weeks of use) because of delamination(we're not the only one with this problem so I saw online) but within warranty so Exped replaced with no questions asked. Great service! We sold the 2nd math, we bought also in 2016, because we wouldn't take any risk with this badge of mats and bought a Therm-a-rest NeoAir. The under warranty replaced mat blew a baffle agin in 2018. Seemed that the replaced mat had exactly the same batch number! It seemed that they replaced the blown mat for one with exactly the same batch number and flaws? Contacted the Dutch importer who directly admitted that this kind af failure is not because of normal use(what caused it is up to today still not clear, but it's no rocket science to figure out was causes delamination.....if normal use is not he cause) and that the mat is out of warranty because the original purchase date is the start from your 5 year warranty. Repairing was not possible.....very sustainable....NOT. We used the math for about 65 nights over a period of 3,5 years until it blew a baffle. So we're stuck with a reasonably new and € 180,- mat with a blown baffle and an importer and dealer who stand their ground of a well know (fabrication?) problem. They offered us an outdated model blanket style mat for € 75.........We bought mummy style for a special reason! So, we didn't accept their offer. Long story short; Exped lost a client, my dealer lost a client and we bought another Therm-a-rest NeoAir.....with a lifetime warranty. My advice; If you want and expensive and super light sleeping mat? Just be on the safe side; stay away from Exped or other laminated baffled mats and go for something like a NeoAir with lifetime warranty and no baffles. Nothing is more annoying than a bad night sleep when you're out camping in the middle of nowhere on a (cycling) holiday.

Product errors are the customers' fault

I bought a downmat hl winter mw mat from them that I stored in the package for about half a year. When I opened it in the middle of the winter out in the wilderness, there was a hole in it. I fixed the whole in order to be able to stay the night. Afterwards, I contacted the reseller regarding this and sent back the product.

The end-result was that they notified me that they test all products before they leave the factory. Therefore, this must be caused by myself.

With other words, all product errors are caused by the customers and warranty is not valid. Be careful with this company's products.
