Would definitely recommend!

Spoke to a very helpful advisor called Debbie, she went through everything thoroughly and made sure any questions I had were answered to the best of her knowledge. Would use this service again if needed and would definitely recommend to anyone that needs advice or pointing in the right direction.

A VERY MISLEADING PRIVATE COMPANY

A private Company with no legal training, giving out false and misleading information on Human Rights. To what end? (Perhaps to protect their fellow private companies that are also taking tax payers money for services to nowhere?) What is the purpose of this private company beyond taking tax payers money to not fulfil any useful role in society. They didnt provide legal advice and acted as a gatekeeper that admits they very rarely forward on information to the commissioner and actual public servants. Even when strategic aims are met theyll make up some other reasoning for why they haven't forwarded it on that is a load of nonesense. PLUS, they dont understand the Human Rights policy and will say they wont quote it because its not their policy. So, SERIOUSLY... what is their actual function if not to address human rights and human rights policy? Terrible private organisation. Online AI will state this is not a private company. Don't be fooled. It is, and they've admitted it.
After the response of the EASS I would like to add that my case not only filled the requirements to be taken further, but is actually the exact example given by the Human Rights Committee of what should be done in this matter, yet the EASS stated that I had no case. They clearly don't understand the Equality Act, or the law it is part of. Shockingly bad company.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience with our organisation.

You are correct that we have no enforcement powers or legal training; we are a free, government-funded helpline that offers informal advice and support regarding the Equality Act 2010 and the Human Rights Act 1998. This information is available on our website and is provided on our IVR when you call through to the service.

While we do operate a referral relationship with the Equality and Human Rights Commission, we would only refer cases that align with their current strategic aims. These aims are published on the EHRC website if you'd like to review them.

Again, I apologise that the EASS has been unable to assist further regarding your issue and I wish you the best of luck in resolving the case to your satisfaction.

Best wishes,

EASS Team

I had a really great experience when I asked the silly questions and wasn’t judged for it

I had a really great experience when I asked for some help in knowing what to do next in a situation at work. They break it down really easily but also add a human touch to it which is appreciated when navigating something sensitive. Thank you so much

I spoke with Rory who was caring, considerate, informative, honest and a great listener. He was able to shine a light on areas I had not considered myself. I am most grateful for his time ( I was not rushed or felt he needed to accept another call, he made me his priority)and his expertise. Thank you so much ☺️

They want excessive and disproportionate ID before they'll process a DSAR.

Firstly, the chat handler (J) was helpful, so I'll give some stars there, but not for the service on this occasion.

I requested a copy of a chat made a couple of months ago (under a DSAR) and was told that I have to send them a copy of my passport and a utility bill, even though they hold none of the info on these, so these documents are worthless and don't ID me at all. They know my email, as that's what I have used on two separate occasions, and that is how the chat copy would be sent.

This form of ID request is excessive and could be a breach of the Data Protection Act 2018/UK GDPR.

The ICO states:

'We wouldn’t expect the organisation to ask you for ID when they are confident about your identity when you make your request. For example, if you make a request to your employer from your work email, or you have a **live chat where you have to confirm your email** and order number.'

Sort out your blanket policy, EASS, as you are potentially leaving yourself open to ICO complaints or even legal action, as you are, now technically refusing to process my DSAR!

Edit:

EASS replied, basically ignoring all that was written, including the guidance from the ICO.

Hi Nathan,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

When it comes to data subject access requests, we do need to ask for identification to match the information on our records or to clarify that the individual requesting the data is the data owner. This is because the data we hold is classed as personal and sensitive. While we don't always need the same level of identification, we may request more from you to confirm your identity if the records you hold with us have information that doesn't match, or don't provide enough information to be assured of your identity.

The reason we ask this is purely to ensure your data is kept secure and not passed to an unknown party without your permission. We are, of course, happy to provide your data to you on receipt of your ID. Please also note that we would never request original copies of any document from you - photocopies will suffice.

If you do feel that you will need access to any information on your live chat transcript in the future, you can also request the transcript to be emailed to you or printed before you close the live chat on your device.

If you'd like any further assistance with this request, please don't hesitate to get back in touch.

ND and reasonable adjustments

I've been having some issues at work for a while. As soon as I started quoting equality act sections HR sat up and started to take notice. There was an intersecting educational issue too.
Debbie knew her stuff. Spoke a bit quickly, and I'm not sure I got it all down, but I'm reassured notes are on file if I need to get back in touch.

Fantastic, compassionate, efficient service

I spoke with Angela today about my experience of discrimination at work. Their advice was clear and offered with compassion and expertise on a complex case. If you are having any difficulties with discrimination this is the place to call.

Their lines are very busy and you might get cut off when you call but keep trying and someone will pick up. In my case it was Angela and I am really grateful for that! Thank you so much for your help.
