Fixed contract ended. Extra membership added without consent

I joined Energie Fitness Brooklands on a fixed 3-month contract only.
The contract ran from June to September 2025 and was fully paid.

After the contract ended, a new rolling membership was added to my account without my consent or signature. I did not request it and did not agree to any continuation.

When payments failed for this unauthorised membership, the gym applied admin fees and referred the matter to a debt collection agency instead of correcting the error.

I contacted the gym to resolve this directly but received no response. I had to formally dispute the charge and provide the signed contract to stop collection activity.

My advice.
If you take a fixed contract, monitor your account closely after it ends and keep copies of all documents.

This should not happen to members.

E.F BROOKLANDS MK. Absolutely disgusting gym. Member since before it opened. New owners have ruined the place.

I’ve been a member of énergie Fitness Brooklands since before the doors even opened under the original owners — and I honestly cannot believe how far this gym has declined under the new management.

The cleanliness is appalling. Showers and changing rooms are filthy: dirt, hair, dust, grime, food wrappers and rubbish all over the floor and under benches. No proper cleaning facilities, the place is genuinely unhygienic. Toilets are often left with paper all over the floor, empty holders, dirty sinks, hand on heart looks like they have never been cleaned.

The water fountain hasn’t worked for weeks, and before it broke it was covered in thick, dried limescale that looked crusty and unsafe to drink from. Members have repeatedly complained about this and nothing gets done.

The equipment is poorly maintained, squeaky, dusty and clearly overdue a service. Dust constantly builds up around machines and triggers my allergies every time I train. For a place charging full membership prices, this is ridiculous.

What makes everything worse is the complete lack of staff. Half the time, the gym is unstaffed. When staff are present, they sit in the office and make no effort to be approachable, helpful or visible. There used to be a massive sense of community here — now it feels like a neglected warehouse full of unsupervised teens lifting dangerously with zero guidance or oversight. It doesn’t feel safe and it doesn’t feel professional.

I’ve emailed multiple times and raised these issues repeatedly.
Nobody ever replies.
Not once. Members talk about this all the time — everyone says the same thing: “There’s no point complaining, nothing changes.” All contemplating leaving over the filth, which is such a shame because most of us have been there since before it opened.

This is a huge contrast to the original owners, who kept the place spotless and genuinely cared about members and the community. Now, with higher membership fees than ever, we’re getting the worst standards the gym has ever had.

It’s embarrassing that paying members have to deal with facilities in this state. Unless things drastically improve, I honestly couldn’t recommend this gym to anyone.

Do not even think about it

Management is terrible, impossible to get hold of anyone. The whole gym is rarely cleaned. Machines are filthy, covered in dust and/or sweat. Showers smell terrible. Toilets are constantly filthy. Carpet stains, the list goes on. It's so poorly run, anywhere is better than this

They will ignore you and your queries!

The gym is great, often too busy however, management and lack of communication is one of the worst I've experienced. My wife signed up for a 3 months contract which has ended. Apparently you need their confirmation of cancellation before you should stop recurring payments. Here's the problem, you email, you call, you try via social madia.. nothing works, they never answer to cancellation queries, disappointed to say the list.
If you sign up, be aware you sign a contract and once you reach the end of it you will not get a "tank you, hope you will join again soon" you get nothing, complete silence and potentially a letter in a few moths saying you owe them hundreds of pounds, this it a joke and needs treated accordingly! Go somewhere else if you want a gym this is not a good place

Do not use this gym! WARNING!!

Do not use this gym. They are scammers, I signed up to a 3 month contract only, this was auto renewed after informing and confirming I was not continuing. A new 3 month contract was auto setup without permission and £37 was debited, Today I discover another £37 had been taken again. This is not right! Absolute scam!! Avoid!! Do Not Use!!

SCAM WARNING – DO NOT TRUST THIS GYM

I never signed up to Energie Fitness Brooklands — I simply made an enquiry and shortly after realised it wasn’t the branch I intended to contact. I told them immediately and was assured that nothing had been set up.

Despite never signing a contract, never giving payment details, and never stepping foot in the gym, I’ve now received threatening emails demanding £109.99 for a so-called “debt” I don’t owe. They are using scare tactics, including threats of CCJs, to pressure people into paying money they’re not liable for.

After speaking to others and doing some digging, I’ve discovered this isn’t an isolated case. The Brooklands branch has reportedly changed hands, and many people are now being chased for fake debts related to memberships they never had. This has been widely discussed on social media and review sites — it’s a pattern.

This behaviour is fraudulent, aggressive, and unethical. I’ve raised this formally and will be escalating it further if needed.

Avoid Energie Fitness Brooklands at all costs. There are plenty of decent gyms — this is not one of them.

Unresolved Issue: Wrongful Debt Collection Action from énergie Fitness Brooklands (Continued)

Further to my reviews on 27/11/2024 & 30/04/2025 (please refer to the original reviews for more detail), I have continued to receive threatening emails from a debt collection agency claiming to work on behalf of énergie Fitness Brooklands demanding payment that is neither owed nor evidenced.

Despite the first 'Final Notice Before Court Action' being sent over 10 months ago, I have STILL not received ANY communication from énergie Fitness Brooklands regarding this matter.

Threats of legal action have been issued on weekends, including on Mothering Sunday, which appears to be a deliberate attempt to pressure individuals into paying unsubstantiated claims.

Unfortunately, my experience is not unique. I’ve read multiple other reviews on here and on the debt collection agency's Trustpilot raising the same concerns. I would strongly recommend that prospective members take the time to read through recent customer feedback before committing.

Again, I’m left with no option but to leave another review and urge énergie to respond, something which they have failed to do so far.

This echoes many of the other reviews

This echoes many of the other reviews. Chased by debt collection agency. Tried to cancel my membership multiple times since March but can never get hold of anyone over the phone and no option to cancel online. In the meantime I’m being charged £100 per month for a gym that im not using as it’s 100 miles from where i live.

Lack of cleaning lets it down

Been coming here with my wife since Christmas and during that time we've noticed that on certain days no cleaning takes place. Last Friday there was no toilet paper anywhere to be found, and nobody to ask either. The only person I've seen cleaning is Rachel who does a nice job even with a broken wrist. Frustrating but I've got to honest with the state of the place.

poor equipments, hot place, complicated member portal

the brooklands gym is not good. equipments are in poor state. plus i did not see any value of continuing. on top of it its so hot inside, that you dont feel like doing workout.its on top of boiling restaurants and stink like you are in hot hell. I was on a 3 month rolling period assessing if it will be good and can i and under the impression that it would cancel after that. But the money was taken from my account. their website doesnt have any feature to check your cancelation terms. for everything you have to mail which is weird. i emailed them on the day the money was taken saying that my 3 month rollout was done and if they can refund. answer i get is that they cannot refund. Any decent gym, one might expect 2 things. reminder emails about continuing memberships so customers know if they have to cancel or not and atleast the website should have a simple feature of 'Cancel button'

I joined the gym in 2023 and attended…

I joined the gym in 2023 and attended for a month before deciding to cancel my membership online. Despite cancelling, I continued to be charged for two months. In response, I emailed the organisation to notify them of the issue and was assured that it would be rectified.

Several months later, I received an email from a collection agency stating that I owed the gym money. I contacted the gym again and was informed that the matter would be resolved. However, months passed, and I was once again contacted by the collection agency regarding non-payment. I reached out to the gym again and was instructed to email evidence of my previous correspondences, which I did. Unfortunately, I received no response—this was in January of this year.

Yesterday, I received yet another email from the collection agency. When I called Énergie Fitness today, I was informed that I was being charged for an additional month because, according to their records, I had only notified them on September 12, 2023, that my membership was cancelled—meaning they charged me for October. However, I had already cancelled online in July. I was then told that the online cancellation system "was not working", meaning my cancellation request had never been processed. If that were the case, why was online cancellation an option on their website?

To make matters worse, when I attempted to discuss this ongoing issue today, a representative hung up on me, and further attempts to contact the gym were ignored.

This entire experience has been frustrating and deeply unprofessional. Given the poor customer service, lack of accountability, and continued billing issues, I would not recommend this gym to anyone.

Disappointing

Lacklustre gym, staff not very helpful, after cancelling the membership, one payment was stuck up, instead of contacting us they directly used debt recovery agents demanding a much higher fee than the membership itself. Very disappointed with the service. Better off paying more for a better gym.

Court action threatened against me for their error!

I joined the new Energie fitness when it first opened up in Brooklands Milton Keynes and after the month trial decided it wasn't for me, so cancelled the membership in line with their cancellation policy. Out of the blue I receive an email from a debt collection agency Argentum Capital Partners saying I owed Energie Fitness Brooklands £93.99! I immediately telephoned and was informed by the manager that this has happened to a lot of people and after going through my details agreed that I owed nothing. Yet I continue to receive threatening emails from Argentum Capital Partners. This is Energie Fitness Brooklands error and not mine, so why am I having to sort this out!

Wrongful instruction of debt collection

Along with others I have been emailed by a debt collection agency when I was never even a member of this gym. I enquired before it was open and as took so long to open cancelled before it was open. The owner at the time confirmed this in an email. Energie Fitness Brooklands wrongfully instructed debt collection and have not sorted this mess out since I contacted them nearly 6 months ago. There was no prior contact to this demand and under GDPR they should no longer have my details as I was not a member. I contacted both énergie Fitness Brooklands and the debt collection firm and neither have responded. There are lots of people reporting the same on social media.
