Extremely overpriced, terrible quality, horrible customer service. I spent $2,000 on one of these chairs. After about 6 years of light residential use, the frame broke. I weigh 180 pounds and the welds broke. It is obvious that the welds breaking is 100% poor workmanship, but the company would not cover it. Luckily the furniture company did. Do not purchase this furniture. It is extremely poor quality.

We bought 2 Ekornes chairs and ottomans 25 years ago and they wore perfectly! Sold them and purchased 2 more Ekornes chairs in 2022. With electric ottoman. My chair cover is completely wore out with large tear from wear. Contactacted dealer & mfg. No results past year warranty! Never buy these again!

Product quality issues resolved in my favor.

After persistent communication through retailers, customer service, and escalation to a service manager, Ekornes did the right thing by fully refunding my Stressless chair, which was unusable due to manufacturing issues. They also covered labor costs generously paid by Garrison’s in Medford, OR, in November 2024, despite the 5-year parts-only warranty. Garrison’s went above and beyond, and Ekornes arranged pickup of the defective chair with a local reseller. I’m very happy with this fair and just resolution.

Never ever again...

In December 2019, the ordered Stressless "Sunrise" chairs were delivered. After a short time, however, we had to complain about them, as they were very uncomfortable and we got headaches and neck pain. An expert commissioned by the furniture store also found that the chairs various inclination angles and dimensions did not meet the specifications, but deviated from the specified standard. We were foolishly persuaded to switch to the supposedly higher quality Reno model. These were delivered in April 2020 in exchange plus additional payment. It was a total of 5,800 EUR! The seating comfort was significantly better, but after a good 2 years the seat cushions were worn out with absolutely normal use! The cross brace mounted under the padding presses against the thigh and you sit very uncomfortably. The padding is now significantly flatter and smoother. So we also had to complain about these chairs. The manufacturer Ekornes informed us through our furniture store that the two-year warranty on the upholstery has expired and that there is no warranty claim. We were only offered to exchange the upholstery for EUR 498! There was absolutely no help from the Ekornes company! So I'm supposed to pay for the removal of serious quality defects that I'm not responsible for... That's arrogance that can't be beat! Of course I refused... I won't drop another penny on this expensive piece of furniture!
My conclusion: never again furniture from Ekornes. Since it was acquired by the Chinese company Qumei in 2018, it seems to be all about sales. The quality has clearly decreased. The Stressless brand thrives on its good reputation, which is now slowly disappearing. This is also supported by the many other negative statements in various forums.

Test to lie on the couch before buying it

Hello, I bought two sofas model Emily. It was crazy expensive and should be the last in my life. They say it is the most comfortalble you can buy. I tell you, it is not! The problem I have is that you cannot lie on the sofa because of the switches for the headrest. The switches are in hard boxes and you have no chance to lay on the sofa in a comfortable way. I try to cancel the purchase. I am realy dissapointed.

Ordered Wing Chair in Red Pioneer…

Ordered Wing Chair in Red Pioneer Leather in 2020. The chair looks nothing like it did in the store. While the chair is comfortable and has helped my back tremendously, the batting is non-existent and the leather is very tight and not wearing as advertised. There are no characteristics of pull-up. Their specific product for cleaning was, and still is, hard to find or ridiculously expensive. When the brand name cleaning product was out of stock I went with something that was recommended and it did little to consistently protect the chair from body oil. The furniture store we bought it from gave horrible advice on how to care for this type of leather. I suspect customer satisfaction for this product has very much to do from where it is purchased. In my opinion this is an expensive gamble to take.

I took the chair-back into a leather working shop and was told that the leather was not high quality and the finish was thin and very poor. They did not feel comfortable cleaning the leather in fear of damaging the thin coating. I was told to leave the chair in the current condition and given a gentle cleaning and conditioning product to care for the chair moving forward. I was told if I used degreasers at home that I may damage the finish and might need to have it professionally sanded, dyed, and re-oiled/waxed. It was also pointed out that seam was coming loose. Imagine my surprise and disappointment that the Stressless leather was confirmed to be inferior quality at a premium price. This may be due to current quality control at the manufacturer. Again, a very expensive gamble.

The two star rating is purely for fit, comfort, and the fact that it did alleviate my back problems. If you do decide to purchase this furniture make sure to go to a store to be fitted for size and model of chair to combat specific ailments. In that area alone am I satisfied to live with a terrible looking chair. I use a throw blanket to detract from visible body oil stains when not in use.

The chair is used daily by myself only. It is not in direct sunlight and we have UV blocking sheer curtains as well. The chair is not located next to a heat source. Our house is kept between 50 and 65 relative humidity. The chair has been cleaned and conditioned ever 3-6 months depending on the dryness of the house and look of the leather. This was the advice given to me where I purchased the chair. This was not the advice I was given by the leather professionals who looked at my chair last week.

I cannot recommend this furniture as Customer Service was sub-par and the leather was confirmed to be poor quality by leather professionals. The price does not justify the comfort as there may be other products that would offer satisfactory comfort and durability at a lower cost. I will continue my search for an everyday chair. I completely regret this purchase and feel as though I have wasted thousands of dollars.

Expensive Chair, Large Deposit, No Delivery

Ordered a very expensive electric stressless chair, with a large deposit in August 2021. We were told delivery would be in January 2022. It is March 2022. No chair. Contact with the company in Norway indicated "it was on the boat" but is appears the boat isn't going anywhere anytime soon. They say delivery now possibly in April 2022. Ekornes says they will do nothing for the customer to make up for the delay - discuss it with the retailer. It isn't the retailer's fault. The company cares nothing for customers or their retailers. Look elsewhere for a chair!

Ordered a Stressless recliner in early…

Ordered a Stressless recliner in early March 2021. Given a receive date of end of April 2021. When it wasn’t received and no communication from retailer, Scandinavian Design & Leather Gallery, we called. Told us it would be end of May. End of May, no chair, no communication. We again called. They informed us it was shipping and would be here in early July. Then in July, still no communication from retailer or Stressless and no chair. We again called and now asked them to honor the existing special, which was hundreds of dollars off a new order of this chair. An emphatic “No” was the answer from both the retailer and the manufacturer. But the retailer said they would call back mid-July with some concession for our trouble and delay. They needed to “think about it”. No phone call, no communication. Now July 31, still no communication and no chair. The retailer and the manufacturer offer no customer service. I would not order from either this retailer or this manufacturer again. I understand that with COVID there are delays, but phone calls, letters, texts, emails to give updates are expected after spending thousands of dollars on a chair. These companies just don’t care about their customers. Can’t speak about the chair as it’s still not here…

Don't expect comfort!

Blissfully comfortable Mary sofa in the shop but the identical one we ordered is stiff as a board, you can feel the frame through the thin, hard padding, no back support. FIRA found "nothing wrong" but then they only look at technical things. The world-renowned comfort for which one pays a very high price simply isn't there. None of our friends can believe how uncomfortable the sofa is. A complete waste of money and now a fight with the shop and Stressless to sort it out. Buy another make.

Very overpriced Chairs i.e. crap

I purchased two Seamless recliners @ $3,000 a piece in 2018. I did my research, and read all the glowing reviews, and bought them without really sitting in them. When they arrived I was amazed at how uncomfortable they are. Maybe if you are Swedish and weigh 100 lbs, the lack of padding and side bolstering are fine, but this would even make a poor car seat. The cushioning is minimal, the chair is hard to swivel, the controls are very tight if you want to adjust it, and it doesn't recline very far. $6,000 and I'm sure I could have purchased cheap recliners at 10% of that cost. I had to add a cushion to the chair and lumbar support, which is also lacking. Now one of the arms is loose, and today a screw fell out of the arm so it is very loose. This is expensive, long lasting furniture ?! Its garbage. A cheap lazy boy would kill this thing. Made my mistake, and I pay for it daily. Don't make the same mistake.

Purchased recliner two years ago

Purchased recliner two years ago. Broken part renders it unusable. Confirmed it is a warranty item. It has been two months of constant queries to retail store and them to Stressless and was just told Stressless does not have paperwork and must start over. Another two to three weeks to just get the part. Terrible customer service and recliner has issues.

Poor warranty and NO customer service

Love the look an comfort. The price is high, but we thought it would last etc. Forget the "warranty" and getting an customer service. Both ottomans broke within 2 years. One chair has now been broken for over 2 months . Part is "on order" on a slow boat. Never any response when. you try to contact them. Not worth it- buy something else.

Bought one years ago and it was fine

Bought one years ago and it was fine. The foam started to wear and the lower lumbar rod was pushing into my wife's lower back. We tried to fix it but to no avail. Ordered a new back and base, thinking the foam would be the same. WRONG! They changed how the foam was made, making it thinner and harder, thus making the lumbar bar even more prominent.
Tried another one of their chairs and it was garbage too. Huge waste of money. Done with that company.

I wish I could recommend them

I wish I could recommend them, but the way they have behaved when their products malfunction, just makes it impossible to do that.

Due to a bad back, with slipped discs etc, a good bed is key for me. Ekornes owns the brand Svane, who prides themselves on being better than everyone else, so we bought a bed at the price of almost 30.000 DKK with intelligel.
For several years, the bed served us well, but suddenly, one of the mattresses starting tilting to one side. We unzipped the cover, and could see that the foam surrounding the springs, suddenly just fell apart on the whole side of one of the mattresses, meaning that the springs could not be held in place. The bed is composed of 2 mattresses and it's only one of them that suddenly broke completely apart, so it should be obvious that something was wrong with the quality of said mattress.
Now, normally respectable brands have at least 10-year warranty on issues like this, but the only reply we received was:
"We don't cover regular wear and tear and therefore reject your claim"
Apparently a bed in that price range is only supposed to last for around 6-7 years before wear and tear make it fall apart.
Aside from that, the bed was really comfortable, but with Svane admitting that their beds are not built to last, we will have to look elsewhere for a new one.

Worthless not Stressless

We spent a lot of money for stressless living room furniture because it was comfortable AND they had a lifetime warranty. Right. It's been three years and we can't get in touch with them. When we called the furniture, at least they put in a claim for us - which took months - only to be told stressless denied the claim stating it was "normal" wear and tear and the warranty specifically excludes that. Right - 3 years it is "normal" for a chair to be totally toast in 3 years. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. I could have bought a different chair and if it was trash in 3 years I could buy another and still not spend the amount of money I spent on this overpriced garbage. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

Ekornes consul chair

I purchased my Ekornes Consul chair from the Poway, California store approximately 3 years ago. I love the chair, but I have one question I hope you can answer. Whenever I lean back, whether just a bit or all the way and get comfortable in that position if I move very, very slightly the chair also moves. It is very annoying when I am leaning back resting. I have tried adjusting the knobs many times but nothing changes. Is this normal?
