Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Many consumers appreciate the quality of the products, finding items like curtains and furniture to be well-made and as expected. People often find the ordering process straightforward, whether online or in-store, and many praise the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, especially in specific departments or for in-store assistance. Delivery experiences are frequently positive, with customers noting good communication, timely arrivals, and careful handling of items. However, some people were dissatisfied with aspects of their experience, particularly concerning delivery issues like missing items, delayed shipments, or couriers leaving packages unattended. A few other people also felt that product descriptions or colors online did not accurately match the received items, leading to returns. There are also occasional mentions of difficulty finding staff in-store or issues with self-service tills, and some customers have reported problems with incorrect or faulty items, particularly with made-to-measure products or items that appeared to have been previously returned.

Ridiculous policy re gift cards

I saw a rug i wanted so asked family to get me vouchers/gift cards for Dunelm.
When i tried to order the rug and pay with my vouchers/gift cards I realised you can only add one gift voucher per transaction.
I my view gift vouchers are the same as cash do this is a ridiculous policy and will make me pick Next when I want another item.

The whale basket

The whale basket, which I ordered for and is advertised to be for a child, had lots of loose basket ends that can be pulled on and unravelled, very tempting for a child and not very safe.

Blind roller bent - again

For the second time, the blind I paid £3.95 to have delivered arrived with the metal roller bent. If I lived near a store I would have returned it for a refund. As I do not I spent some time having to gently straighten it sufficiently to ensure it rolled and unrolled evenly without falling off the brackets.
I don't know at what point in its journey from the factory the roller became bent, but there was no sign of any damage on the outside of the box.
I'm unlikely to buy any more blinds to be delivered given my experience.

Poor customer service

I went to the Chester store on Sealand Road today. I was looking for a number of kitchen utensils. One of those was a knife sharpener.
I could not find them anywhere. I looked for a member of staff to help, nobody to be seen. After some 5-10 minutes of looking for either staff or knife sharpener I gave up. I put my other purchases on a shelf and made my way out. On the stair were two members of staff making their way upstairs. I asked them to show me to the knife sharpeners and I was told ‘they are near the customers toilets somewhere, we only have one type.’
Just very poor quality customer service.
I left and went to Tesco, I found everything I was looking for, very easily and quickly………. And most of all it was cheaper!!

Most of the staff at Dunelm are really neither helpful, knowledgable or friendly!!!

The worst customer service in uk

The worst customer service in uk. Was recommended vileda mop bucket at thier Greenwich store and was given a guarantee to return if it doesn't work when I went there to buy my usual one. As I returned a week later to return the item as it didn't work, I was treated with so much disdain and in a very condescending manner I was left in complelete shock to a point I was nearly pushed out of the shop after accusing me of being disruptive and aggressive when the security arrived. They also denied i was ever given a guarantee refusing to look at the cctv and eventually no refund was made. Steer well clear of dunelm Greenwich and vileda spin mop buckets currently on sale at thier shop now, absolutely atrocious!!!

Rubbish

Honestly, I don’t even know where to start with Dunelm.

I’ve ordered a few items and it feels like something has gone wrong with almost every single one. The mattress turned up with an actual hole in it, multiple light shades arrived damaged, one made-to-measure blind was literally left outside in the street like it was rubbish, and the other one didn’t even fit.

It’s just been problem after problem.

What really annoyed me though was trying to leave a review on their website. I wrote a very basic, honest comment saying half the light shades came damaged… and surprise surprise, it got “moderated” and never published. The excuse they gave didn’t even properly apply. It just feels like they don’t want people seeing the reality.

Between the poor quality, careless delivery, and filtering out honest reviews, it’s pretty clear they’re not that interested in the customer once they’ve got your money.

I won’t be ordering from them again.

Pillow useless and can't return it.

Bought a "firm support" pillow. When I opened it and tried it, it was no use as it just flattened to nothing. The Dunelm policy is that pillows can't be returned if the packaging is open - but how do you know if they are useless before you try them? I have tried to contact them but all methods failed, including the phone number for the store I purchased it from, which just rang until it cut off. So I have wasted my money and time.

LESS INTIMIDATION!

Dunelm has introduced self service checkouts which only accept card payment. This is ok if you only have one or two items but when you have a trolley load of things, I prefer the manned tills regardless of how I'll be paying. I was heading for the manned till when a member of staff asked how I was paying? When I said card she said to use the self service. I politely said I'd rather use the manned till but she insisted that Dunelm wants it's customers paying be card to use the self service. I again said no thank you. (I should point out that there was no one queueing for ANY of the tills) I was again approached be another staff member saying I must use the self service option. Again, I politely declined & got to the manned till, where I was asked how I was paying? WHY!! I said by card so she started on the same spiel as the others. Again I said no thanks, so she then offered to do it for me at the self service till. I asked if there was any reason why she couldn't serve me at the ordinary till? She then reluctantly proceeded to do so.
I know staff are only following management instructions but do they have to be so forceful & intimidating about it? I'm not in the best of health & having to deal with lifting things out of the trolley etc was not what I wanted to do.
Furthermore, Dunelm doesn't pay me to process my purchases. They can offer this service but if I choose not to use it, then they shouldn't resort to bullying tactics with the customers. Afterall, it's my custom that is paying their income!!

I came in to buy curtains and a curtain pole. One of the assistants showed me where the poles were then very helpfully guided me regarding the size I needed. She was so friendly and helpful it was a pleasure shopping here. The queue moved quickly and again the operator was friendly and helpful. I have always found all the staff in BurySt Edmunds excellent.
