Had a cancellation for a continual renew subscription to cancel. Agent was extremely helpful and got my request taken care of quite quickly. Thought what would be a pain turned into a pleasant experience! Bravo!!!!
Super-Fast and Professional
Super-Fast and Professional! I submitted an inquiry regarding my account online and expected to hear a reply within several business days. The reply came within a few hours, with a full explanation of my account history!!! I couldn't believe it. This rarely happens with an online customer service request and I was blown away! The care center was incredibly friendly and professional and offered to help me in a way I wouldn't have even asked for. I will buy ALL my magazines from DiscountMags.com from now on!!
Tony saves an angry customer…
When I made the call to DiscountMags I was all set to be angry & state I would NEVER order from the company again. This was the 2nd time I had to call about an “ Auto-renewal “. It happened a few months ago & I had to call and get the first auto-renewal magazine cancelled. And, now it was happening again, & I was angry.
I reached Tony & explained that every Christmas I give a gift of a year’s magazine subscription to each of my family members. And, ages range from 4 to 70somthing. I only give a 1 year subscription as children’s ages change & adults interests change. I sent an e card with each gift , and would not ever want any of the magazines to auto-renew. He understood, and issued me a refund of $13.73 which had just been charged to my credit card. I asked him to please check all the other magazines I ordered last year as gifts to be sure that none of them auto-renewed. He checked and found I had also been charged $149.00 for other renewed magazines. He explained that even though I sent E-cards showing each magazine was a gift, if I had checked the “gift” box it would have signaled not to renew the subscription.
It was the way Tony handled my call, understood my intentions, remedied the entire situation, and explained your ordering system that I WILL AGAIN order Christmas magazine subscriptions as part of my Christmas gift giving. Thank Tony for retaining a current customer.
Sincerely, Patricia Romano
Genuine and caring
I felt that Tony was a genuine, caring person who took my problem seriously and resolved to fix it! He was able to and I appreciate it!
No Delevery and Poor Customer Service Followup
******This is the followup to my original review. A human customer service agent responded to my emails. After some conversation they rectified the situation and I have access to my subscription. They also settled out to credit me my 3 months of lost issues by giving me a subscription to a decent magazine that was comparable in price. I will upgrade my initial 1 star, to a 4 star primarily because they did respond to feedback, and that deserves the credit.
They do need to get rid or the auto responses when there is a problem. A human is much more effective in managing problems.
******This is a second edit to the review. I will note that I received the Economist code via Discount Mag. But I lost 3 months to the subscription and no return of the cost.
I also received confirmation from Discount Mag and Economist (I think) will not auto renew the subscription. I also received a couple more robo-emails.
In the end, this was a lot of trouble. I would recommend that DiscountMag review their automated robo AI email system. Straight answered emails to address problems would be a better way to handle problems. I received only one human response. I will not use them again. Best to go straight to the magazine and take out a subscription.
****This is an edited addition to the original review of this company. I believe their customer service are AI robo-responses. After trying their suggestion to go through the Economist website I hit a snag. The Discountmag instructions don't match the website they ask me to visit. Then they repeat their previous admonition and ask me to wait four weeks from my order - 3 MONTHS AGO! Who manages this company? Just stay away, DiscountMag is not worth the time and trouble.
1) I subscribed to the Economist Magazine on July 13th. The confirmation advised that I would receive an activation code within 4 weeks. There was no activation email. It is almost October.
2) I send an email to customer service. They answered "The Economist did change somethings and you will not receive an activation email. You would receive a Welcome Letter. Once the subscription is active then these would be the instructions to activate:" They sent me photos of instructions that are useless without a code. Apparently I have to deal with Economist now?
3) There was no welcome letter. So I can't follow up.
4) Customer service did not do anything more to help me. I checked discountmag.com refund policy but, they don't advise HOW to get my refund.
5) This is too much trouble. Too much time. And their customer service doesn't carefully read the complaints.

I had to call in about a recent charge
I had to call in about a recent charge. I spoke with Latasha who made me aware of a magazine i had auto renewal. She was great and helped me remove the auto renewal and even helped me out with price. She went over and beyond. Thanks Latasha!
I bought a subscription a few months…
I bought a subscription a few months back for my sister and I needed help with the order. The customer service rep I dealt with was very helpful and explained everything in great detail. I find that is rare to find nowadays. I was extremely pleased with the service I received.
I ordered a gift subscription of…
Update: The company refunded my account the next day and my bank waived the overdraft fees, so it's all good now. So glad to have it all sorted. Thanks to Discount Mags for getting back to me via email and also a phone call from a very nice lady, and refunding my account within 1 day.
--------------------------------------------------------
I ordered a gift subscription of Discover magazine last year for about $15 for a Christmas present. Fast forward to today, when I get an overdraft fee from my bank saying I owe them over $50 for an overdraft. So I find that the magazine has been renewed for $25. I only had $2 in my checking account! I don't know where I'm going to find the money to cover this.
So I try to cancel this subscription, and there is no way to contact someone. I get this when I try to contact someone: "Please be aware that we are currently experiencing high ticket volume. This is causing longer than expected delays. Contacting us more than once about the same issue may cause further delays. We promise we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. We appreciate your patience."
I looked up the email that was apparently sent a few weeks ago about the renewal and there is a big "cancel order" button that takes me to the same page, and no way to cancel it. So I am crying, I don't have the money to pay for this, and what if I am never able to cancel this, and I get my account overdrawn every year?!

Never received subscription
Never received subscription. Contacted DiscointMags.com. They said that magazine was returned, so the magazine cancelled. But the magazine was never delivered. Advised to place a new order. Subscription simply was cancelled without ever having delivered an issue. What a waste of time.

Cancellations - made as difficult as possible. Bad company!
Folks, you see their response to my TrustPilot review. It's a canned response that is, in fact, a lie. My customer information is in the review info, enough to gain access to my account. How do I know? I've contacted them years ago and they were able to access me before. This canned response is a LIE. It's an easy way for them to try to get out of their garbage customer service - "Whoa is us, please feel sorry for us as we can't do our job and provide even a bare level of customer support so accept our lame responses." Don't believe. Read all of the other reviews and read their same canned replies. It's not a coincidence they're all the same. Final Note: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.
****
These clowns do all that they can do to make cancelling a subscription as difficult as possible. Here's a clue to DiscountMags. You claim to have a huge volume of incoming issues/calls/e-mails. Okay, let's "assume" you're not lying. Here's a simple solution. Create a CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION button on your website. Not a button that infers cancellation but actually says CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION!!! No need to call anyone. No need to send an e-mail. You do this to make cancellations as difficult as possible because you make money on people using your service. You are a bad company with zero ethics. You and your employees do not give a darn about your customers. Shame, shame, shame.
*** Okay, here's some additional info because Discount Mags asked for it:
In an attempt to Cancel a subscription, we're told to do this from our Profile page.
Okay, then what? Here are the options. Select which of the mags from the list.
Your choices are: Renew, Change Address, and Help with this Magazine
If Help With... is chosen, a drop down appears with the following choices:
Where is...
Magazine did not renew
I missed
Receiving duplicates...
Something else
The only option appears to be "Something else" followed by a Popup windows requiring the user to select one of the following with a typed message.
Here are the choices:
Please select:
Where's my magazine, et al.
Finally, the final choice says: Other order related inquiry.
Note, NOTHING about Cancel subscription.
I've read online (not on Discount Mags) that we have to CALL you to do this. But no where is this said. Why so difficult, pulling hair, and no instruction to do this. Allow your users to just click a button to say: CANCEL.
I put in 2 items for this with zero response. Thanks for that.

Fast and efficient answers to my emails.
Fast and efficient answers to my email inquiries and the kindness to throughly answers all my questions with information to better satisfy me as a customer. I get all my magazines through Discount Mags because of the low price along with great customer service. Thank you.
I am in Sweden
I am in Sweden, was looking for the latest issue of Fortune to buy a digital copy of. DiscountMags was happy to sell it to me and charge me for it. But once I got to the actual issue, a geo-block said "Not availble for your country". Have now been struggling with getting reimbursment for a few days, to no avail. Never buying from these guys again.
-- UPDATE 2 JUNE 2024: Below came a comment from a DiscountMags rep. It's the same standard language they've used in emails to me, when I've emailed my complaint. They give me a 5-step-list of what to do, that ultimateily leads to the same result: I cannot download the magazine. I reply with this. They go silent. So please Trustpilot, do NOT remove this complaint, just because the company showed up here with a non-committal response.
And if the DiscountMags rep reads this: my order number is WV6329626, the order date was 06/20/2024.
Please activate the issue I paid for, or reimburse.

Fabulous Customer Service!
I have been a DiscountMags customer for several years now. Some months ago I had an issue with duplicate magazines after I requested a name change from the publisher. The publisher goofed up, not DiscountMags. I had absolutely no trouble contacting customer service, who worked diligently to resolve my problem and kept in touch with me through speedy responses. I have rarely encountered such a high-level of good customer service anywhere! I highly recommend DiscountMags!
No way to communicate problems to this place
I ordered a one year gift subscription, in December 2023. The recipient has only received one issue. I tried to contact discountmags.com, but apparently the only way to do that is on their website which is currently not accepting any communication "Please be aware that we are currently experiencing high ticket volume. This is causing longer than expected delays. Contacting us more than once about the same issue may cause further delays. We promise we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. We appreciate your patience." I can't find any other way to communicate to this place about all the missing issues. I have filed a complaint to BBB.

If I could leave zero stars, I would. Received 1 out of 6 issues...lots of back and forth with customer service, zero resolution.

Order has not arrived 4 months later :(
I am currently waiting for my first issue of Slam magazine, I ordered it 4 months ago. I received an email saying that I would be compensated by extending my subscription, which really just ensures?? that I receive the 1 year subscription I paid for. Customer service does not take ownership, they pass it on to the publisher that can’t be contacted.
My son is very disappointed that he has not received his birthday present 4 months later.

They take your money and never deliver a single issue. Just buy direct from the magazine company you wish to subscribe to. It’s been 4 months. No magazines and no response to emails.

Error processing my subscription eventually resolved
EDITED REVIEW: I purchased a 2 year renewal for a weekly mag for $190. Due to an error on DiscountMags' part, they never processed my renewal. Four months later, they refunded my money without notifying me that anything had gone wrong; I only learned of it when my issues stopped coming and I discovered the unrequested refund in my credit card history. When I complained to the merchant by email, their anonymous replies (from "customer service") were surprisingly unapologetic, leading me to post a negative review here. In response to that I received a signed email from Andrew, who took full ownership of the situation, apologized for the error, and offered an adjustment on another subscription to help offset my cost and inconvenience. While I wish they'd done that in the first place without my having to post a negative review first, ultimately they did make things right, and I will order from them again. Mistakes happen.
