Hi Joe,

This is the nature of online shopping I’m afraid. Each delivery or return costs the retailer and unfortunately we cannot all afford to do this free of charge like Amazon. If we too were paying the miniscule tax rates that they are, then maybe we could absorb some of these costs but unfortunately offering free delivery and a free return service is just not a sustainable way to run a business.
All applicable charges are clearly communicated to the customer on our website even before placing an order so that you can decide if you’d like to go ahead and place an order with us.

We thank you for the opportunity to clarify this for you.

Not happy with the service provided

Bought shoes of worth more than £100 - tried it on but it started hurting on the toe side so was not comfortable. Asked them for return & get a refund but they refused to do so on the basis that the shoe box had a tape on it so not resaleable.

What sort of excuse is that? Due to the shoe box didn't get returned or a refund.

Not happy as worth £100 shoes are going in charity cozy of no use to me

Hi Amana,

Thank you for your feedback.

As you attached tape to the shoebox, we’re unable to accept back your returned item. We do advise in our Return Policy, which is available to view before you place an order with us: “Please send back the item(s) in the original outer packaging and attach all labels to this, not the item’s actual branded packaging. If you do not have the original outer packaging, please use something equally suitable to protect the item/s.”

We do need to be able to resell items which are returned, and we cannot do so in a box that has your details taped to it, nor can we sell the shoes without a box. May I respectfully ask, would you be happy to receive a pair of shoes with a previous customer's details stuck to the box, or without a box at all?

For this reason, your shoes were returned to you. You will find that the majority of online retailers will operate in this way, not only Direct Sports.

We thank you for the opportunity to clarify our Return Policy to you.

Kind Regards,
Direct Sports

Refused proper refund, broken products

I ordered trainers online and they broke within a few weeks. I followed their warranty process which involved returning the shoes for inspection by their manufacturer. This involved paying the cost of delivery myself. They agreed it was a manufacturer fault and refunded me in store credit as they don't have the trainers in stock anymore

However after calling they refuse to refund me back to my original payment method (I don't want store credit) and also are not refunding the postage I paid originally to have the trainers delivered or indeed my costs to send back the faulty trainers to them

So basically I ordered trainers from them which broke, had the hassle of returning them, had to pay to return them, can't get a replacement and then only offered store credit and I'm also about £10 down after everything due to postage costs they refuse to cover

I please ask you properly refund me ASAP to my credit card including the full costs of postage both ways, as you should be doing under the consumer credit act

UPDATE:

they offered me a replacement that was a completely different colour and nothing like the original shoe. Any respectable company would have refunded AVOID AVOID AVOID

Hi Dom,

Thank you for your feedback.

As you did not report the issue with your shoes within 30 days, you are not eligible for a refund. We can provide either a replacement pair of shoes or a credit of the original value for you to select any other item/s from our website. We are not unique in this advice, you will find the majority of retailers will provide either a replacement or a credit after 30 days but not a refund.

We thank you for providing us with a further opportunity to clarify your entitlement following your warranty claim.

AVOID! Shocking service be wary

Bought a pair of trainers for my son’s birthday. Paid extra for Saturday delivery to ensure we had them in time. They messed the delivery address up (used half my billing address and half my delivery address) then tried to blame it on me even though it’s an automated system where you have to input the postcode to find the address so would of been impossible for me to click the wrong one when choosing the addresses in the drop down box to do this by accident as I didn’t do them manually when the billing address is a different postal area. Had an absolute nightmare with DPD trying to get them collected instead as I couldn’t get a response by Direct Sports to have them correct the address for re delivery. (Phone number didn’t work on their contact details which already sent alarm bells off) when they finally responded to my email (which was already too late and had ruined my sons plans for his birthday) the member of staff from Direct Sports blamed it on me, didn’t apologise and refused to answer why the phone lines don’t work. I asked for at least the extra I paid back for the Saturday postage since it was their mistake even if it’s a technical error possibly which they also refused and continue to say it’s my fault. If there’s any issues with this company their best interest is their pocket and not the customer I’m glad to say I finally managed to sort out collecting a few days later with DPD myself as they still refused to help so will definitely be avoiding this company at all costs in future. Abysmal customer service I’m just thankful we don’t have to send them back because from other reviews it seems them keep your money no matter what. Shameful behaviour and awful experience I would definitely not recommend this company. Just to add that after submitting a review they tried to have it deleted rather than try and resolve or apologise. That response says everything to me.

Hi Lizzie,

Thank you for your feedback, though I must respectfully point out that it contains many untruths. I can see you entered your address incorrectly; Direct Sports do not interfere with customers’ details once they have been entered. Looking at your order, I can see you have entered a mixture of your delivery address along with your billing address postcode, which meant the courier was unable to locate your address to complete your delivery.

If you check your confirmation email, you will see the address listed exactly as you entered it.

Our telephone number of 01740646961 does work. Our lines are open Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:30pm. I can see you emailed us on Saturday 8th February so I wonder if maybe you were calling around the same time, when our lines are closed? It is certainly of no interest to Direct Sports to list a telephone number that does not work. We replied to your email as soon as we reopened on Monday 10th February.

I’m afraid we would not refund your postage costs since the error was yours and we had correctly dispatched your order via the delivery service you selected, within 19 minutes of receiving your order. This is exceptionally quick.

We do not “keep money no matter what.” We are more than happy to accept returned items from our customers, provided they are inline with the terms and conditions of our Return Policy.

I am pleased you have been able to collect your parcel from DPD. We consider this matter to be closed.

Kind Regards,
Direct Sports

I returned a pair of shoes that didn't fit despite being the right size and never received refund. I chased it for a while and had to give up. If I had more free time would have taken them to court.

Avoid getting your rackets strung here!

Have been using Direct Sports to string my rackets for a while, never had an issue previously but recent order was a painful experience. I took over 8 rackets (not all mine)
and took my time to make sure all labelled correctly with right strings and tensions to be strung at.

One was strung with the wrong strings and I was told ‘stringer is confident they followed the correct instructions’ when the tag on the racket clearly had a different string to be strung with.

For two other rackets, there are dents in the strings due to the clamp being too tight for my chosen strings. I have had 100s of rackets re-strung and never seen this before. It was the middle string (the one you aim to mostly hit the ball with) and I have a strong feeling it will snap. The fact the strings octagonal shape was impaired was not even considered by the stringer who I would think is pretty experienced consdering he is the stringing manager.

Considering these guys charge £18 per re-string (even with your own strings) which is probably one of the highest charges in the UK, you would expect no mistakes and the strings to be double checked at the end.

I popped back in store to show this to someone from the restringing team and was told the manager ‘will be in touch as he is off today’. I got an email following day to say, there is nothing wrong with the strings in those two rackets and that the ‘stringer is confident they followed the correct instructions’ and that all rackets should be checked before leaving the store.

Very poor response to a regular customer who has been using their services for a couple of years and never previously complained. There was no accepance of any mistakes and instead accusations made against me to say I did not write the correct instructions. Awful experience, will not be using their services again and highly recommend others not to do so especially considering their £18 per re-string charged.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

We too took great care in ensuring that we had the correct information when accepting your rackets from you for restring.

We have a team of expert stringers who have years of experience under their belts and as the number 1 badminton retailer in the UK, we take the utmost care with our customers’ rackets and do not use undue force when clamping strings.

It is of no benefit to Direct Sports to provide a poor service since this inevitably costs us time and money and more importantly of course, upsets our customers. Nevertheless, we were willing to accept that there had potentially been some misunderstanding and offered to redo the restrings for you. You refused this offer, leaving us without the opportunity to resolve the situation for you. That is of course your prerogative.

member of female staff very rude to me.

Do not deserved one star but I had to so that I can write about them, I have place 2 items with them and they have provided me the date that I will received on Friday 31st January 2025, when I did not received anything I have decided to call the store and find more information about my items, a member of female staff called member of staff that is what she told me her name provide me a terrible service which is one my worst service ever I have received, she give less chance to speak talk over me no willing to listen and when I said I have purchased the items from you and your company provide me the date so if its your responsibility to delivered the items to me not my problems if royal mail do not do, obviously I am upset and let down because I have game tomorrow and I can not use the products, in replay she said to me its also not her problems, the moment she said that to me that even made me more upset and let down, personally I never know he but if staff like that working for that company and she keep providing that kind of customer service I will never even come back to the company and I will suggest people please do not, we do not pay money to listen from member of staff that that is not her problems,PLEASE AVOID TO BUY FROM THEM,

Return rejected due to a weird reason (return label on box)

I attempted to return a pair of shoes, but my return was rejected with the reason: "Box is taped and label stuck directly to the box, not in resalable condition."

This is entirely unfair because:

1. Both the shoes and the original box were in perfect condition when I handed the return to the courier (Royal Mail), which was provided as a valid option in your return portal.
2. The return portal explicitly states that customers do not need to do anything with the return label. Therefore, how the courier attached the label and seal the box is beyond my control.

If the condition of the box is so critical, the company should ensure that the courier provides a proper return bag or packaging to protect the box. This failure reflects poor coordination between your company and Royal Mail.

Based on this experience, I would advise others to avoid shopping online with your company until your return process is improved.

Hi Ke,

Thank you for your feedback.

It is your responsibility to ensure your return item/s are packaged sufficiently, not Royal Mail’s. It is entirely unreasonable to expect the courier to carry packaging around to parcel up your items. Not only would this be impractical but also an unjustified expense for Royal Mail. We explicitly advise on our website “To qualify for a refund or exchange, items must be in a new, merchantable condition with all original labels and packaging intact.” Affixing, or allowing a label to be affixed to the box of your item means we cannot resell it. Naturally we cannot resell the item with your details stuck to it, and peeling it off damages the box.

There is an additional line of information within our Return Policy advising: Please send back the item(s) in the original outer packaging and attach all labels to this, not the item’s actual branded packaging. If you do not have the original outer packaging, please use something equally suitable to protect the item/s.

It is always best to familiarise yourself with a company's Return Policy in advance of placing an order with them.

We thank you for providing us with the opportunity to highlight this condition of our Return Policy to future customers.

Kind Regards,
Direct Sports
