I recently had a very negative experience with Decathlon Uruguay, which has raised serious concerns about their operations and customer service. On December 17, 2024, I placed an online order totaling 10,100 pesos uruguayos for three items. While I received two of the items, the tent valued at 7,900 pesos was never delivered.

Lack of Communication
I have tried repeatedly to contact Decathlon Uruguay through WhatsApp, email, and Facebook, but I have not received a single response. Adding to the frustration, there is no phone number available to speak with someone directly, making it nearly impossible to resolve any issues.

Generalized Customer Service Problems
After reviewing their Facebook page, it became clear that I am not the only customer facing such issues. There are numerous reviews from others reporting:

Missing items from orders.
Incorrect items delivered with no resolution.
Refunds that are promised but never issued.
A general lack of response from the company, leaving customers without solutions.
Legitimacy of Decathlon Uruguay
The most alarming discovery was that Decathlon Uruguay does not appear on Decathlon’s official list of stores worldwide, as listed on their international website. This raises serious questions about whether this store is operating legitimately under the Decathlon brand.

Impact on Decathlon’s Reputation
Decathlon is globally recognized for its quality products and strong customer service. However, the issues with Decathlon Uruguay, including missing items, unfulfilled refunds, lack of communication, and potential legitimacy concerns, are damaging to the brand’s reputation.

Our Request
We hope Decathlon’s international management takes notice of these recurring issues and investigates the legitimacy and operations of Decathlon Uruguay. Customers deserve clear communication, reliable service, and confidence that their purchases are protected.

Until these problems are addressed, I cannot recommend purchasing from Decathlon Uruguay.

I left a tee shirt in the Manly store (Tomas was also a real help to my friend from the Netherlands) then the people in the Sydney store helped me (Pasos I think was his name). Their customer service was 5 star and I love the tee shirt!

bought a 7 speed cassette from decathlon shah alam on 4/10/2024. After using it for 1.5 month, the chain keep skipping or making clunking noise when torque is applied or when climbing up a hill while only on 5th gear. Estimated mileage of use is about 600 km for 1.5 month.

I cleaned the cassette, retuned my rear derailleur and even bought a new chain (decathlon 3 to 8 speed chain). The problem persisted. Only on the 5th gear, when torque is applied, the chain skip or make noise. When I shifted to 7th, 6th or 4th while standing up to cycle, nothing happens. The chain is fine. Only on the 5th gear the chain has that problem.

Today 21/11/2024 , I disassembled the cassette and brought it to shah alam branch to claim warranty. They don’t even look, hold or examine at the wear on the cassette. The staff there say they can’t honour the warranty without proof and asked me to bring the bicycle here. They said they’ll try to set up and retune my derailleur, and if doesn’t work, I’ll get a refund. So I brought the bicycle to the shah alam branch.

After about 45 minutes of ‘setting up’ the bike, which made it worse. I had to retune my rear derailleur myself later at home. They heard but not listening to what I said about the problem. They kept saying it could be the hanger alignment, bent derailleur, misaligned jokey wheels etc.

Everything else is the problems except the worn teeth on the cassette itself. They are not even interested to see me pedaling with the 5th gear the show the problem. Unfortunately in was raining outside and I can’t fully stand up and put some torque to show the problem. Plus the guy (I’m assuming he’s supervisor because he was the one who said bring the bike and if the problem is not solved, I’ll get a refund) who I talked to and who worked on my bike is going home and asked me to talk to the other guy, So I left. What’s the point of dealing with people not interested or not allowed to honour a warranty claim?

I’ve been cycling for 40 years and been fixing and maintaining my own bmx, road, touring and mountain bikes. From my experience, a new chain will skip if paired with a worn out cassette, in this case, the teeth on the 5th gear is giving problems even with the old chain, which was new since I changed the cassette and chain together. I use mostly the 5th gear while biking. The bike I brought is 32 year old which is in good condition except for the chain skip problem using decathlon cassette.

I understand that a cassette is a wear and tear item. 600km or 1.5 month of use and the teeth on the cassette is worn before the chain is worn is simply not acceptable. This indicate the cassette has defect or made out of inferior materials.

I started using a decathlon chain gauge to measure the chain wear 2 years ago. I buy new chains for my 7, 8,9 and 10 speed bikes when it measures 0.75% on the chain wear gauge and 0.50% for my 11 and 12 speed bikes. I’m not even sure decathlon’s chain gauge is even accurate anymore as I used to and usually go the a shop that uses park tool chain gauge to check my chain wear.

I get it that most of decathlon products are hit or miss products. This is my second time claiming warranty on decathlon cassette and chain. 2 years ago, Both cassette and chain were badly worn out at about 1000km. 1000km is too short for both to get worn badly. I was given new cassette and chain as I didn’t want a monetary refund. The cassette lasted for 10000km with 3 chain changes.

With that experience, I bought another 3 decathlon cassettes, 2 bad 1 good and bought another 6 decathlon bike chains, 1 bad 5 good.

All wear and tear items should have an acceptable longevity and durability. Unfortunately buying from decathlon is like buying a lottery. Hit or miss. Either bad oem quality control or decathlon purposely selling inferior products.

At the very least, please answer me this, beside money, what’s the point of selling inferior quality products despite of having a decent customer service, relatively cheap price and a ‘claimed’ good warranty claim policies?

A Very Disappointed Customer.

I ordered a ping pong table, and they sent me a trampoline. I called to find out how to receive the item I ordered and was told they could not deliver the correct item and that they would only reimburse me when the item was picked up by the delivery driver, which seems suspect. They did not offer a solution to deliver the correct item. I guess they don't want business. Either way, never spending money at Decathalon again

Scammers & Spammers

These clowns started spamming me with Spanish emails, I never subscribed but I visited link it said to press if I wanted to change my mail preferences.

I followed the link and my email client which checks outbound destinations came up with the following warning that shows Decathlon are using malware on the sub domain of their website that they use to manage email.

"This page appears to contain malicious code that could be downloaded to your computer without your consent. "

So either they are using malware or they installed a bootleg from Blackhat site that included Malware. Either way they are responsible for what is installed on their Sub-Domain

If you start receiving spam from decathlon contact the information commissioner in your Country and report decathlon for breaching GDPR.

The only way they could have got the email address of mine that they used is to have stolen it or obtained it illegally as I never subscribe to anything and use specialist tools and services.

Check your email address with the haveibeenpwned website to see if one of the companies you provided your email address to has been hacked. This happens to the biggest companies, for 25 years I have been using dedicated email addresses on my own domain. eg. ebay38499323733 AT mydomain or Amaz34484834rfd AT mydomain etc.

So when I get unsolicited email I can trace who sold it or lost it.

Decathlon has such an email so I know they had no business obtaining it and it was not shared, looking at the other 1 star reviews it seems clear that using the email addresses of other people illegally is normal business practice for Decathlon

I don't deal with companies that have 3% or more 1 star reviews on Trustpilot, so to have over 60% 1 star reviews on Trustpilot basically means STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY THEY CAN'T BE TRUSTED.

Spammers. If you make the mistake of giving them your email address, they will start spamming you and distribute your email address to third parties no matter if you give them a permission or not. Moreover, they do not provide any email address in their privacy policy to stop spamming.

I placed 2 orders, they both got cancelled and I received no notification. Avoid

Never buy anything from Decathlon that needs delivery - they use Warning+ - google to see how bad they are - rude and useless - AVOID!

After a week the surf was not sent and I did not receive any updates! I requested a refund, they can not do it!

I'm rating my experience high , as when entering the Broadstairs branch, I was greeted by a lovely young man called Ryan. He was very well mannered, very knowledgeable of my questions.

Poor quality items, returns process difficult, slow and customer service is terrible to try deal with.

I've worked for the company twice in 2 different countries, so I know their core values and customs. That's why I was shocked. I called the customer service to inform them that I made an order but I've got an emergency and won't be at home, so I was asking how I can change to drop it at the neighbours or at a relais point. The lady picked up, said "hello" and shut up. I introduced myself...*silence...and so said "Bonjour". She responded as rudely as possible "je vous écoute(am listening)". Told her my problem and she said, again as rudely as she could, that there's nothing I can do, if am not there during delivery it will go back to the shop and I'll get a refund. Still trying to be patient I said "okay thanks" and she hang up😤. As it happens the delivery guy didn't get me, he called and I explained, he said I can change the delivery to a pickup point once he notes that he couldn't deliver. To say am beyond shocked that Decathlon hires these kinds of people, they in no way represent their values!!

I have shopped several times at Decathlon in Markville Shopping Mall. I'm very happy with their products and the attention received from sales person ANUR. He was knowledgeable and offeres personal attention. Thank you

Decathlon France promises 1-day shipping but uses an unreliable delivery service: DPD. After 1 day, I received an SMS from DPD saying they cannot deliver the parcel and asked me to click on a link to reprogram the delivery. When I clicked on the link, it did NOT work and there was no way to change the delivery. Three days later, the link worked. But I had to reprogram the delivery to a much later date (I still have not received the parcel and it has been 5 days).

Website says dog friendly, but this morning I was told to leave Perpignan store as I had my small well behaved dog with me

Ordered a bike for my daughters birthday. The website said it was in stock and to collect on Tuesday, on the monday they messaged to say it was not in stock and would let me know in three days time when I could expect it. I waited four days and heard nothing, so got onto their live chat, I was assured that it was with the couriers and I would get notified soon when it would be in. Having heard nothing further for four days I messaged again today, and they said it was not even in stock the warehouse which is not even in this country. I now don't know why they were telling me it was with the courier. This was straight up dishonesty. I now have an up to 5 day wait to get the money back. We are way past my daughters birthday. Thanks for nothing decathlon, strongly recommend you dont order anything you need urgently from this company.

Fedex delivered my order to the wrong address and then said that Decathlon had to contact them for me to get a refund. I tried to contact Decathlon by phone 3 times and by email 4 times and they don't answer. They owe me $107.42 and I can't get it back!!!
I don't believe that they are a legitimate company!!
