Customer communication

Very helpful call with customer services regarding our travel insurance renewal. Had a few updates/changes to discuss and were all handled pleasantly and efficiently.

I had a query over the family policy and it was answered quickly and clearly. I did try via the chatbot but the responsiveness wasn't great and the clarity of the response wasn't good enough for certainty.

Airline issued PIR as their official Damage Report. AXA disagree. I stuck.

My suitcase was broken, crack and dent during processing on my flight to Hong Kong. I report to airline desk. Cathay Pacific Airline staff immediate issued a Property Irregularity Report(PIR) - promise this as the only doc needed for insurance claim. Several staffs insisted - for Years, Cathay Pacific issue Only PIR for claiming travel insurance. Airline insisted PIR is the same as damage report on insurance claim - they never heard about incomplete doc ever occur. But, AXA insisted PIR and Damage report is 2 kind of difference report. Then refuse to even accessing my claim - repeatedly suggested I hand in incomplete doc.

Request for a non-existed doc which airline would not issue at all. Then decline accessing claim? I am so regret on the outdated practice. Actually regret to even be their customer. If I could be trapped by these tiny trap, how could I trust when big issue happen.

Thank you for your review.

We've spoken to the claims handlers for your case, and from what we understand, the PIR you submitted was in order. The document they had been requesting from you was proof of ownership and value (such as an original receipt) for the damaged item. We've asked them to contact you to explain again what is needed so they can progress your claim.

If you require any further assistance, please let us know.

I've used coverforyou for travel insurance quite a few times but have never had to contact them by phone before today. The call was answered immediately after i chose from the initial selections and spoke to a most helpful lady who answered my query clearly and professionally. All done and dusted in a couple of minutes, brilliant compared to most companies where you can phone them and be on hold for a long time and still not get your issue resolved at the end of it. I will keep using them for all my future travel plans

Only possible to call them when it's impossible for most people to do so

Opening hours that only freelancers or the unemployed can use.

Need to call after 5pm b/c you work flat-out every day? Or just b/c you don't want to discuss medical conditions in front of your entire office? Or b/c you have no signal at work? No chance!

And of course you can't reach them on the weekend and nor can you just get a quote online if you have, say, had medical tests that came back negative! The form demands pre-existing *conditions* but if you saw a doctor or were tested for something *that the test revealed you didn't have* you can't fill in a condition in the form as you don't have one. But the form also demands that you fill in a condition if you have been to a doctor for anything in the last 2-5 years! No option for going to a Dr but not actually having a condition!

It's a catch-22 from hell and - of course - you can't reach a human to clarify it as they only offer a phone line during office hours, when, if you have a busy job or work in an open plan office, you can't actually call them.

I have spent a week trying to spend hundreds of pounds on insurance with them. I give up!

(And quite relieved to TBH - can you imagine what a nightmare it would be to contact them when you need them to pay you if they make it this hard to pay *them*!)

Being generous in giving them 3 stars but frankly it might as well be 1.

Disappointed-expected better!

We bought a travel insurance policy for our trip to Oman, but then had to cancel the trip after the conflict started in the Middle East. All of our other suppliers refunded in full, either waiving cancellation fees or refunding 100% when there was no liability to refund anything! No such luck with CoverForYou, who have insisted on keeping 50% of our money for doing absolutely nothing because the policy was cancelled after the 14 day cooling off period. I expected better from this company as we have had to cancel due to circumstances beyond our control. I did not expect them to take advantage of the situation. We will use all of the other suppliers again when we are able to rebook, but will never use CoverForYou again. Hope it was worth it!

Thank you for your review. We’re sorry to hear you are upset with your refund.

Travel Insurance provides two core cover periods; cancellation cover before you travel and then emergency medical and disruption cover whilst you are travelling.

In your case you purchased your policy at the end of January, for an 8 day trip at the end of March. This means you paid us for around 50 days of cancellation cover and 8 days of travel cover. At the time you cancelled your policy you’d received roughly 45 days of cancellation cover (so used around 75% of your time on cover).

While we understand that you didn’t need to claim for cancellation, you had been on cover and would have been able to make a claim if needed. This is why, unlike providers that don’t provide anything until you travel, you don’t get a full refund of a travel insurance policy once you’ve been on cover for more than 14 days, or travelled under you policy. You’ll find this is the similar with all travel insurers (some in fact offer no refund at all after the 14 days).

Avoid at all costs

I have no idea how this company scores higher than zero.
Firstly, beware that there is no telephone number to ask what you should actually do in an emergency. Only how to email a claim - which is no use if you are in a hospital knowing you have missed a flight.
Every step of the claim then had to be chased - AXA - who deal with the claims had all the details from the start - but paid in dribs and drabs - having to be chased for 3 missing parts of the claim. No apology for their omissions. One minute an agent is looking at it - the next apparently the system automatically rejects things - which is it?? Only emails that are unintelligible. No chance of an apology.

We're sorry to hear you've had a bad experiance making a claim.

There is a 24x7 emergency number available. It's printed on the top of your certificate of insurance, is noted in your welcome e-mail and is also available from the Claims page on our website. There is also a link for our other phone numbers in the same places including one for assistance with standard claims.

In relation to the claim you made, we'd like to investigate what happened, but you've left this review anonymously and not responded to our request for information. If you could provide this information we'll investigate further.

Left my wife stranded in Dubai with no support

Thanks Cover for You for leaving my wife stranded in Dubai. She was super pleased to hear that your small print states she is now in a war zone with no insurance to extend her hotel stays or fund alternative flights back home.
My wife has been frighted, huddled down in the hotel basement at times with missiles being intercepted overhead.

You website states “ We truly believe you will find a product that ensures that you feel safe and secure while abroad so you can focus on making memories”. Not quite the reality when it comes to doing the right thing by your customers.

Thank you for your review.

We are very sorry to hear about the distressing situation your wife is experiencing. Being caught abroad during conflict is understandably worrying, and we truly empathize with how difficult this must be for both you and your wife.

War and acts of conflict are classified under our policy terms as excluded events. This means we are unable to provide cover for claims arising directly from the outbreak of war, including evacuation, alternative travel arrangements, or associated disruption costs.

However, in situations like this, the tour operator and the airline have primary responsibility for assisting your wife.

Under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018, if you booked a package holiday, the tour operator is responsible for:
- Providing assistance while you are in difficulty
- Arranging alternative travel where possible
- Offering refunds or suitable alternatives if services cannot be provided
The airline also has obligations to support passengers whose flights are canceled or disrupted.

The policy automatically extends at no cost if your wife takes the first available flight offered by her airline or the UK government. If she is still abroad we strongly recommend that she:

- Contacts her tour operator immediately and request urgent assistance
- Speak directly with her airline regarding rebooking or evacuation options
- Follow the advice issued by your embassy or foreign office
- Register with your embassy if not done so already

If you or your wife have any questions, please contact our Support Team who will be more than happy to assist you.

Brilliant service

I fractured my fingers after falling over in Lanzarote. I called the helpline and they explained what I needed to do to get treatment and gave me hospital in area. I paid for treatment and on my return sent documents to Coverforyou. I called the following day to make sure they had been received. Jess took my call and she was amazing, stayed on the phone while I resent and completed my claim. Refund should come through in 5-10 days. Will definitely use this company again. Big thank you to Jess for all her help.

Nightmare claims process if Axa services your claim.

While CoverForYou have an excellent rating on Trustpilot, if you have to make a claim you may find your service provided by Axa Travel Insurance, (2.1 stars).
While I was seriously ill abroad, trying to deal with Axa's claim process was very difficult.
On the telephone, the Axa representative often blamed another department for delays which I obviously didn't care about.
Read Axa's reviews before taking up CoverForYou insurance.

Just to add that it's not possible to log in to the CoverForYou website directly. Access is via an annoying email link process. Should be changed.

We are sorry to hear about these unfortunate news, and sincerely hope that you are recovering well, if not fully recovered. We have contacted the claims handlers appointed by your policy insurer, and they have now informed us that they have now contacted you informing you that your claim payment is currently waiting approval. They will be in contact with you once they have an update regarding your claim.

In regard to the access of your account, based on many previous cases and feedback received from our clients, where clients kept losing or forgetting their access passwords, we have opted for a quick access link provided via email. However, we passed on your feedback to the relevant team for any future consideration.

If you require any further assistance, please let us know.

Port cover but look at the policy wording!!

We missed two ports. The first due to a fellow passenger being ill so we couldn't make the port. The second was due to a world leader conference occurring at the port and so the port was closed.
They won't settle my claim as it says in the policy wording that they only accept weather conditions or timetable issues and no alternative port is offered.
I assumed missed ports covered missing ports scheduled but more fool me.
Check their policy wording thoroughly if buying.
Well, many thanks for your reply and I will certainly check policy wording in the future. I will not be using your company in the future or any companies you are underwritten by including AXA.

Thank you for your review.

Kindly note that not all perils are covered under insurance policies, and cover depends on each insurer's risk appetite. Our policies only cover missed ports due to weather conditions or timetable restrictions and no alternative port is offered, this information is stated on the Policy Wording document, which is available to download during the quote process, and access to it is emailed to the registered email address immediately after purchasing a policy.

We also offer a 14-day cooling-off period, so our clients can cancel the policy if it doesn't meet their needs and receive a full refund of the premium paid.

The reasons you provided for the missed ports do not fall under the above mentioned cover and, regrettably, your claim has been declined.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Do not expect back what you're out of pocket.

We had to stay an extra 4 nights in Geneva after losing my daughter's passport whilst skiing. I had to change our flight home, book 4 nights hotel and travel by train to/from the British Embassy in Bern from Geneva.
I submitted all my paperwork and receipts for all these extra expenses.
All I was reimbursed for was the Emergency Travel Document(ETD). This left us over £1000 out of pocket.

After speaking/emailing them requesting why I was not being reimbursed for any of the travel and hotel etc, they just repeated that all I was getting was the ETD paid.

Not impressed with the service and will not be renewing once it expires.
Absolutely shocking treatment by a company we should be relying on when we need them most.

I've used this company for years and…

I've used this company for years and had a brilliant time, until now. Whatever has been integrated with AXA simply doesn't function. My husband needed a doctor, their system wouldn't work and I was told it could take days to fix. I now need to speak to a doctor, and yet again, the system will not allow me to make a request. Absolutely awful.

Thank you for your review.

We are sorry that you are experiencing technical issues. However, we note that your policy covers subject to the policy terms and conditions, medical emergencies whilst travelling abroad, as such, if you are unable to reach the DoctorPlease service, you can seek a local doctor/hospital and claim against the policy once you return back to the UK, alternatively, please contact the Emergency Medical Assistance at: +44 330 123 2370 and they will assist you accordingly.

Furthermore, we note that our policies cover the costs of telephone calls to and from the Emergency Medical Assistance Service notifying and dealing with the problem for which you are able to provide evidence.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Will not use ever again.

Agree with all the other reviews. Very bad experience and wish I had checked reviews in more detail before going with this provider.

Just another company that will happily take your money for a "valid policy" but refuses to pay anything when you actually put a claim in. All evidence provided, circumstances completely out of my hand and still they refuse to help. Ridiculous company, would not recommend.

Avoid this company, they are awful.
My wife had a fall in Thailand and tore her ankle ligaments. After the initial online video consultation they were absolutely appalling and left us to completely fend for ourselves. We phoned them, e-mailed them and did online chats to request help in arranging hospital assistance, but go no help whatsoever. We had to arrange a hospital visit and subsequent treatment ourselves.
We are still in Thailand, but rest assured Cover for you will be hearing at lot more from us when we return to the UK.

We're sorry to hear you've had a bad experience trying to claim. You've left this review anonymously and havn't responded to requests to verify your details so we can't investigate further.

Based on the limited information you've provided the only advice we can give you at this time is that per the information we provide at the point of purchase there are two services we provide:

Teledoctor service : This is for minor illness only and allows you to speak to a GP and where required get a local prescription.

24x7 Emergency Assistance line : This service is there to assist you in the case of a more major illness, where you need to attend hospital.

It sounds from your review like you've tried to use the teledoctor service instead of the emergency assistance line for a medical emergency. If you still need assistance please contact the assistance line, or if you already have and something has gone wrong, please contact us with your details so we can investigate for you.
