This was our fourth time taking the…

This was our fourth time taking the boat, and we always really enjoy it. I accidentally left my AirPods on board and only realized it about an hour and a half later. Using Find My iPhone, I saw they had been moved to a location in Kiel. I contacted the team and they were incredibly helpful. They managed to find my AirPods, kept great contact with me throughout the process, and sent them back to me. Excellent service and friendly communication. highly recommended!

WARNING abort this Company

WARNING abort this Company.
I have tried to get in contact with color line, as I had problems with my booking! I am afraid that the number plages are not correct.
But nobody replies on the phone, I have tried several times and used over one hour waiting. Then I gave up!!! I Think that they have no people hired… maybe scam?
I have paid DKK 45.000!!! For the trip, this the worst service ever!!! Drive to Norway instead of takling the ferry.

No wifi included?!? In 2025...?

Superspeed from Kristiansand to Hirtshals. 8am.
- Unlike fjordline after the booking confirmation no further info, reminders or advice.
+ Check was fast: they scan the licence plate and print your boarding card.
- mainly fast because they didn't check anything. Didn't even want to see our passports or check the number of passengers. You could smuggle whoever you want on board.
+ The ship has a lot more seating than the slow fjordline ships relative to the amount of passengers.
- seats aren't very comfortable.
+ you can pay in NOK or DKr on board.
+ the trip is only 3:15 where fjordline is almost 4 hours.
- wifi NOT included. 29NOK for 1 hour! You read that right 1 hour, NOT even the whole trip. And only for 1 device.... this is 2025 not the stone age. And beware of the maritime cellular network: that will cost you an arm and a leg (not Colorline's fault).
+ the staff we encountered were friendly (low) season

Mama Bella Dining Experience

Overall, our experience aboard Color Fantasy was okay. The cabin was a decent size for four people, and the large porthole gave us a beautiful view. Most of the crew were welcoming and helpful, which made a positive impression on us.
We had a great experience with the waiters at the Oceanic Restaurant—they were attentive, professional, and made us feel truly cared for. Their service stood out and added warmth to our trip.
Unfortunately, our dinner at Mama Bella restaurant was a letdown. As an Asian single mom dining with three small children, I felt we were treated differently. Our food was served late, and we weren’t asked if everything was okay. I had made it clear from the start that we wanted dessert, but the waiter didn’t return to our table for a long time—(we were done eating, so the SOP was to clear the table and ask if the guest wants to order desserts). Instead, he kept checking in with other guests nearby who clearly didn't want to be disturbed.
When I finally called him over, our dessert (just two ice creams, a tiramisu, and a glass of rosé wine) took so long to arrive that my kids started asking where it was. The same delay happened when it was time to pay. Having worked in onboard restaurants and five-star hotels myself, I know what good service looks like—and this wasn’t it.
I still gave a 5% tip, but that was meant for the kitchen staff who prepared our meal, not for the service we received.
I hope this feedback helps improve consistency in guest treatment. Every traveller deserves to feel seen and respected, regardless of background or family setup.

Sloppy irresponsible amateurs

We were supposed to cross the Skagerak by ferry on Tuesday 5th of August. Then the storm hit. Already it was very hard to get Infos on the hotline ("for English press 9" - you do it - they continue in Norsk. Luckily I speak some and got through until one gets to choose that they call back. They did, but no further info available. Then in the evening I got 9 SMS telling us our trip was cancelled aka rebooked to wednesday 8 o clock. Unfortunately that late I couldn't cancel my further bookings in the trip down to Switzerland.... Oh well. Next day aka evening (we were getting prepared to a short night having to get up at 5 to catch the ferry at 8!) there are 2 more SMS coming in, telling us the ferry is again cancelled due to weather conditions and we were rebooked to Thursday at 1630. So we show up early that Thursday, queue from 14to 1530 only to be sent out of the car lines getting into the ferry and to the ticket counter, because our rebooking had been made for the 8h ferry that day. The SMS had been 'a mistake'. Only thing they can offer is a rebooking to the ferry on FRIDAY morning at 8. Another BnB booking in Danmark paid and not possible to cancel. And now I had to additionally book some room to overnight in Kristiansand. Not to mention meetings and appointments missed back home, 1500 km. away. This is outrageous!!!
I am now applying for a refund for all our extra expenses. Will write more feedbacks according to how this goes. What amateurs!

No morale. Find alternative

Be aware this company thinks - even after several questions from customers and news papers that it is okay to sell the same trip at different prices on their own websites. This means they are willing to scam any customer no matter nationality! They have NO morale. Choose another company if you feel this is so wrong!

Think of you go into the left or right door in a supermarket and then you have to pay 25% more for the products if you chose the left door 🤯

Ticket prices are also affected by fluctuations in the currency markets. Eg. the Danish krone has strengthened significantly compared to the Norwegian krone.

Bedbugs

Bedbugs! We had booked our entire winter break through Color Line. Unfortunately, the cabin in Norway was infested with bedbugs, which infested our clothes. We wrote afterwards to ensure that others weren't as unfortunate as we had been. We have waited to hear back, but we have never head anything apart from an auto-generated mail that they had recieved our mail. No aplogy, no reimbursement, nothing!

Color line magic

Color line magic . We had a ticket for evening buffet , we stood in the line , when it was our turn we gave the ticket to the man in the front desk, he shout at us and gave a lesson that we have wait until he is ready . It was an experience for bad customer service .

Low service level in general

Color Magic: Reception onboard refuse to give or sell ice cubes unless you have booked a suite. I don't know why and the employees don't know either.

I have had many trips with Color Line and mostly positive but the service level in general is a lot lower than what you would expect.

For some reason, Color Fantasy seems to consistently have better service than Color Magic.

Not Dog-Friendly

Not Dog-Friendly: A Disappointing Experience for Pet Owners

I recently travelled on the Color Line ferry from Norway to Denmark and was deeply disappointed with the lack of consideration for dog owners. This ferry line appears to prioritize smokers over pet owners, which was evident throughout the journey.

Dog Owners Beware

If you have a dog, avoid this ferry line. Unlike other ferries where you can keep your dog with you on the outdoor deck if you don't want to leave them in a cage or car, Color Line offers no such accommodations. There was no designated area for dogs to urinate and no sheltered places for owners to sit with their dogs. Meanwhile, there were plenty of shelters for smokers.

Compared to the Fjord Line

The ticket price for Color Line was almost twice as expensive as Fjord Line, yet the latter provided a far superior experience. Fjord Line offered heated areas with couches and special spots for dogs to relieve themselves. This stark contrast in service was quite disappointing.

Poor Customer Service

To address my concerns, I approached the reception to get an email address for customer service. The staff member, an older man with stars on his uniform, was incredibly rude. He told me to leave the area immediately because I had my dog with me. While I understand rules are rules, his manner was abrupt and unprofessional.

As I tried to explain my situation and apologize, he started petting my dog without permission. When I asked my dog to come to me, the staff member became visibly angry, cut me off mid-sentence, and stormed off without another word. Such stubborn and unprofessional behaviour is unacceptable, especially in a customer-facing role.

Conclusion

This experience was the worst I’ve had on a ferry, and I will never use Color Line again. Other dog owners I met on the ferry shared similar sentiments. If you are a dog owner, I strongly recommend avoiding Color Line and opting for more pet-friendly alternatives like Fjord Line.

Color Line needs to seriously reconsider their policies and training for dealing with pet owners to avoid such negative experiences in the future.

Color Line er dritgøy!Det ser ut som en liten by inne på ferjen.Show er helt fantastiske!Sist da vi var i 2020 så var showet kortere pga corona så håper de er tilbake for fullt nå😊Klubben på dekk 15 syns jeg var litt skummel da jeg var yngre, pga de greiene som jeg ikke vet hva heter😂De har også et badeland der.Veldig gøy.Det beste er nok shopping.Det er noen butikker der og sist men ikke minst Tax Free!!😍Elsker den butikken så jeg kunne dratt når som helst igjen😊🥰😍
