I purchased a few dresses from City chic and noticed that the material listed on their website didn't match
the material dress that I actually received.
I immediately messaged City Chic to let them know of
this error.
I paid using PayPal and let PayPal know of items received not as described and lodged a dispute/claim.
Im disapointed.
I m happy to return items to get a chargeback.
Fashion Forward, Policy Backward
City Chic has its positives and its negatives — and I’ve experienced both.
The negatives first.
1. Customer service. It’s wildly inconsistent. Every store visit seems to be a lucky dip — one lovely staff member and one crabby pain in the bum. If there’s only one person on, you just hope it’s the good one. Phone service is the same — fine until returns or policy come into play, then they can turn dismissive and sometimes rude. That’s not a good look. Better vetting and proper staff training would go a long way.
2. Return/refund/exchange policy. It’s too tight and, honestly, unfair. A strict four-week window with zero flexibility — in real life, that’s not always workable. The rules around tags are over the top (surely a tag can be replaced), and being told to resell items on a Facebook group is not a solution.
3. Buying online but returning in store. This one really gets me. I live in the country — over an hour away on a 110km highway to the nearest store. If you can post it to me, I should be able to post it back. It’s that simple.
4. Sizing. It can be all over the place, even within the same range. Which means you rely heavily on the return policy… and around we go.
5. Sleeveless overload. Not just a City Chic issue, but for a brand that caters to larger bodies, you’d think there’d be more awareness here. Many of us don’t want everything sleeveless. Yet the range often feels 80% that way. The industry as a whole needs to do better.
6. Pricing. Full price can feel steep for what you’re getting, especially given the inconsistencies in sizing and the strict return policy. The real value is in the sales — that’s when City Chic truly shines. But at full retail, it can be hard to justify the spend.
Now the positives — because there are definitely some.
1. Quality. When you get the right size at the right price, it’s a fantastic buy. The sizing (when correct) feels like a true Aussie fit, just designed with the extra room we actually need. I’ve gone from a size 24 to a 10 and can still shop there — that inclusivity is something to be proud of.
2. The good staff. When you find a great one, they’re exceptional. They go above and beyond every time. If I were the CEO, I’d be rewarding those staff properly — they’re the ones holding the brand together.
3. Fashion forward. This is where City Chic shines. Larger bodies deserve modern, stylish clothing — not daggy, outdated options. City Chic understands that big girls are just as beautiful and just as fashion-conscious as anyone else. And for that, credit where it’s due.
At the end of the day, I shop there because when it’s good, it’s really good. Tighten up the policies, lift the service standards, and you’d have something truly exceptional.
Niko at city chic penrith is the absolute best!
I went to city chic in penrith plaza, nsw for a christmas party dress and it was honestly the best experience ever. Niko was simply amazing at helping me find the perfect outfit and nothing was a bother for her at all. I think I spent close to an hour in store trying on multiple dresses and outfits and she made me feel better about my body and (weight) than I ever have. After several kids and a lot of weight gain clothes shopping is always a chore for me now but the staff at city chic made my experience excellent! 10/10 recommend and I'd give 10 stars to niko if that was possible! Excellent choice in staff city chic
Disappointed

New
Sunday 30/11/25 Im so disappointed i just went to the penrith plaza store and the 2 shop assistants had such a bad attitude i went in to return a dress that i had purchased online i did not have a tax receipt but i am a member and was able to provide the tax invoice on my member account, but still gave me attitude and were hesitant to refund me saying there was no invoice number on the receipt when clearly it was there, one of the girls took a piece of paper to write down something even though my tax invoice was right in front of them. Usually i cannot talk more highly of the staff at the Penrith store as i have returned a few things over the years there and all they did was bring up my member account with no problems at all, but today the staff made me feel very uncomfortable and made out i was a problem for a issue that was so easy to resolve. And yes after all this …, they were able to refund!!!!!! Something that should of been done without a problem and bad attitude!!
City Chic Marion What is Customer Service
City Chic Marion are rude, unreasonable. I was told to make sure I kept my receipt if needed to be returned. Nothing else .
When I went to return it, I had my receipt but they wouldn't return it because the tags were taken off. So I was stuck with a dress that didn't fit me and out of pocket $160 . Not even store credit offered. I paid cash
I can't actually remember the date but a blonde maybe even green in her hair. The worst customer service I've had in my life !
Id like to mention Harbourtown, I mentioned the above and the lady said we will return it for you
They were exceptional customer service, Marion store I will never step foot in again
Bendigo City Chick experience …
Went into the Bendigo Victoria store to look for a formal dress for my nephew's wedding. Went on the 12.08.2025. I have been in the store before and have never had an issue. The dark haired lady was extremely condescending to me when assisting me with outfits. I kept my composure at all times and was very polite regardless of her attitude. Not good enough, if they don't like customer service, don't be employed in this industry. The experience should be enjoyable not walking out angry.
Don't trust their sizing
With a measuring tape and the help of my partner, I figured out my sizing according to their (quite random) charts, ordered some new business wear, just for it to be not just a little but by far too big for me. I remeasured - did we have it so wrong? No! It's just that their sizing is really off. Really really off.
I contacted them regarding an exchange for smaller versions of my order, but the response was that I was liable for the return myself - as a result I choose not to exchange the clothes, but return them all, and no longer replace them with their clothes.
Gets two starts because the fabric is lovely and they feel well-made, but customer service and sizing are devastatingly off.
Buying bras online from City Chic
I bought a bra off City Chic. According to their chart it should have fit. When it arrived I put it on, the cup size was perfect, the bra felt snug but not too tight. I wore it but after a few hours I noticed it rolled up on the sides and the clip had moved digging in quite painfully (the bra did up at the front via a clip). Now City Chic will not exchange it because it's been worn, yet these are problems which would not have presented themselves during a try on. What a complete waste of money and time.

Not fun for NZ online shoppers
I wouldn’t recommend shopping online if you’re a NZ customer. I chose a dress as a Christmas present that was an online exclusive, based on my measurements I was told to buy a size 18 but that didn’t feel right so I chose the 16. When it arrived it was too big so I needed to return it for a size 14. I took it in store and because it was an online exclusive, I couldn’t get a new size in store which was fine but they also couldn’t refund me because it wasn’t bought on my card and apparently you can’t use store credit or gift cards online so the store is returning the dress for me, then when the refund comes through, I can order the dress again. I’m unlikely to do this because it would require spending another $15 on shipping and frankly, I haven’t enjoyed the experience enough to want to give money to this store again.

My Grandma Should Shop Here Instead
Lingerie selection has gone down hill. Most of it look like some thing a grandma would wear very poor selection for younger people. Was looking for gstrings and baby doll dresses extremely little variety in colour and styles. Even normal gstrings are non existent.
The tops and dresses that are online and instore look likes it more for 40+ year olds.

Horrible customer service experience at Winston Hills
This morning I went to return an item at the Winston Hills store. I am a long time customer of the brand and have made many, many purchases over the years. This is my local store and most of my experiences have been lovely. Today, the sales lady was particularly unhinged and when I returned a dress she was rude, remarking “no one who works in retail shops online. It kills the business.” I was returning an item I purchased online. Her attitude was utterly horrible. All customers, especially those long standing ones who purchase many items online or in person should be treated with respect. She then suggested I could return the item to Eastern Creek which is a 40 minute drive away! I was disgusted with her attitude. Some customer training is clearly needed here.

Scammed for Shopping In-Store
Bought some lovely jeans at the Robina outlet. Looked them up online when I got home to show a friend and realised they were half the price. I paid double in-store for the exact same pair. Very disappointing. Poor standards for building consumer trust. I feel scammed because I didn't check a website first.

Let me just start by saying I love their products, It’s their on line & delivery services that have lost them stars as it has seriously changed over the last few months. There is zero information on their website on tracking where they once used to supply & their delivery service ignore messages to contact. Definitely makes me rethink purchasing.
