Not the service I'm used to
After my accountant (Robert Hayden Associates) was taken over by Chadwick & Co, I became "just another customer to be dealt with", losing the relationship that had been built up over 30+ years. When telephoning, there was zero recognition and I had to explain who I was and was unable to speak to the person dealing with my account except on certain days. Despite the reduction in facility received, the fees increased substantially. I then discovered a long-standing error in the way our web-based marketing account was communicating with Sage Accounts via SagePay meaning that our VAT returns had been wrong for eight years...not spotted by the accountant, who then charged me extra for "time spent advising me how to submit VAT corrections of this error"! Enough is enough so I now employ a different Accountancy firm..... at a considerably reduced cost.

We understand the importance of continuity, particularly for clients like you who have used the same accountant for many years. When Robert Hayden Associates became part of Chadwicks in 2023, we did our utmost to ensure a smooth transition for all clients and maintain the quality of service you were used to.
In relation to the VAT issue: this was a historic error which had been ongoing for eight years prior to us taking over your account two years ago. The issue stemmed from the way your marketing platform was integrated with your bookkeeping system – something that would not have been visible to us, as we were not engaged to provide bookkeeping or VAT services for your business. Nonetheless, once the issue came to light, we made every effort to help you put things right. As the work took considerable time and fell outside the scope of our usual services, we were obliged to charge for the time involved in advising on the necessary corrections.
We also understand your concerns regarding fees. Unfortunately, due to recent HMRC reforms to basis periods, many businesses, including yours, have had to change their year-end. This has resulted in additional work and, therefore, higher accountancy costs, as we have had to produce two sets of year-end accounts within a 12-month period. Despite the extra work this has created, we have aimed to keep these increases to a minimum, while continuing to provide the support and technical expertise our clients rely on.
We genuinely regret that your experience with us was not a positive one. Please be assured that we take all feedback seriously and continue to refine our services to ensure every client feels recognised and well-supported.

Very poor service
Very poor service from Chadwick's. Very dissatisfied customer.
No communication. Unprofessional behaviour. Fobbed off.
I very much doubt the IT malfunction had anything to do with the lack of payroll services.
I should have been contacted, not matter what. It should not have been down to me to chase frantically about trying to contact the office, now shut for over a week. If it was as bad as they say, why did AMS not know anything about it when I called and spoke to Hafsar, she should have already known and be able to advise me.
If it was that bad, a message should have been put on the out of office answer phone message, to allay the fears to the many companies wondering why their payroll wasn't provided.
I can't help that the Christmas break and the IT fault (if there was one!) interferes with the provision of payroll services. That is what I pay for.
The late payment FPS, doesn't reflect on the accountants who do it, it comes down to the individual businesses. Who pays the late penalty fee? It won't be me.
How many other businesses have been affected? I'm sure with such a large company as Chadwick's, I can't have been the only company whose payroll has been affected. Are all the other companies going to have late payment FPS against them?
Despite the Christmas break, the IT failure, whatever! payroll services should be provided in a timely fashion. Someone needs to go into work and complete their duty / what I pay for.
My staff work hard all year and want/ need/ deserve to be paid. I'm appalled at the total lack of care and cavalier approach taken to supporting my business.

To summarise the sequence of events: the payroll details for your café staff were submitted to us on Sunday 22nd December. Unfortunately, we experienced an IT issue over that weekend which left us unable to send over your payroll details on Monday 23rd. We attempted to contact you three times that day to communicate the issue and discuss alternative arrangements, but your business was closed and we were unable to leave a voicemail.
On Tuesday 24th December, your café had reopened and we successfully called you at 10.13am. At that time, we explained the situation and offered to manually calculate the wages for your staff. Instead, you opted to pay them an estimated amount (based on recent earlier wage calculations) and requested that we process the payroll fully once our systems were operational in the New Year, which we did promptly.
We understand how critical payroll services are to your business and regret any distress this situation may have caused, especially during the Christmas period. This IT issue was an isolated incident - the first of its kind in over 40 years. You asked how many other payroll clients we failed, and the answer to that is, one other, making two in total. This was a real achievement by our staff who prepare hundreds of payrolls every single week.
Please rest assured that we have taken steps to review and strengthen our systems to prevent such occurrences in the future. Additionally, we remain committed to ensuring that no client suffers financial penalties due to unforeseen challenges on our part.
We value your business and appreciate your patience and understanding during what was an isolated and unprecedented incident for us. If you’d like to discuss this matter further, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly so we can address any remaining concerns.

Professional and evidently know their game
