Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 50 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently report horrible and unreliable service, experiencing slow speeds, frequent outages, or complete loss of internet and phone service for extended periods. Many people were dissatisfied with the customer service, finding it outsourced, difficult to understand, and generally unhelpful or unresponsive. Reviewers often struggled to reach a live agent or receive proper assistance, with some encountering rude or dismissive staff. People also faced significant issues with billing, including outrageous prices, unexpected increases, and charges for services not received or for modem leases that never lead to ownership. Many reported problems with technician appointments, where no one arrived or issues remained unresolved, leading to lost work hours and continued payment for non-functional service.

Incompetent

In early December, my elderly in-laws asked for my help because their CenturyLink DSL service (both phone and internet) was down. When I connected to their Wi-Fi, I discovered a CenturyLink splash page bluntly informing them their service was being discontinued, and they’d need to switch to Quantum Fiber, CenturyLink’s supposed "sister company." Without warning, CenturyLink had already cut their service.

After examining their modem’s setup page and confirming the service was dead, I called Quantum Fiber on their behalf and scheduled an appointment to install fiber at their house. The earliest available appointment was December 18th. When the Quantum technician finally arrived, they took one look and declared, “Oh, we’re going to need to dig a cable to the house. We’ll do it after the holidays.” No firm date, no follow-up plan—just a vague "after the holidays."

The holidays came and went. Still nothing. In the meantime, I reached out to CenturyLink to at least reconnect their phone service, as my in-laws—both elderly and not comfortable using cell phones—had no way to make calls. CenturyLink flatly refused, despite their old modem showing the DSL status as “connected.” A manager dismissed me with a hollow apology: “As much as we’d love to help, we just can’t reconnect the phone now that it’s swapped over to Quantum.”

Weeks later, my mother-in-law called CenturyLink directly and was told, “Oh, this isn’t right. We can reconnect your phone until Quantum finishes the install.” That was two weeks ago. Despite repeated assurances that it would take no more than three business days, nothing has been resolved. To add insult to injury, Quantum already has their payment information on file from the initial setup process, yet they’ve done absolutely nothing to deliver service.

This entire experience has been a masterclass in incompetence, finger-pointing, and customer neglect. CenturyLink and Quantum Fiber are two sides of the same broken coin, and neither company seems capable of basic communication, let alone providing reliable service. I wouldn’t touch either of these companies with a 10-foot Ethernet cable. If you value your time, money, or sanity, stay far, far away.

I’m also now exploring potential legal options, because leaving elderly customers without phone or internet for over a month is not just negligent—it’s disgraceful.

Beware - Bad Business Practices

I have been a customer for years…. They are now refusing to send a bill. No Email bill's No paper bills! They are attempting to force everyone into automatic withdrawal. They have become deceptive & shady in their dealings. Promising to send a bill but never doing it. I have asked to pay the $2 paper fee.. & I still don’t get a bill. Refusing to give me access unless I open ann online account with them. Assessing Late fees when they send 0 way to pay without calling in or Automated withdrawal. Years of poor connection & now shady business practices. They were the only game in town. But that doesn’t mean you treat your customers forcefully. Getting out in the next 3 months or less !! I will not ever allow them automatic withdrawal after the way they have coerced & manipulated the situation. I do believe they have to legally send a bill!

Steals your money and keeps billing after you try canceling their service

Century link steals your money and also claims their service works where it actually doesn’t. I tried cancelling my service 6 months ago! The lady had told me it was cancelled, then come December I have a $541 bill! Their service didn’t work where I lived. Their customer service is a joke and clearly doesn’t know how to do their job. Thanks for stealing from my family because you guys can’t do your job. You are a disgusting/untrustworthy company! If you try and talk to anybody about the issue at hand they straight tell you it’s your credit, pay it or don’t and hang up.

We cancelled Centurylink June of 2024…

We cancelled Centurylink June of 2024 because we were moving. It is now January of 2025 and they still were billing us. Unfortunately, we did not realize they were still billing us. We have notes of the cancellation, but they tell us today that they don't see any notes about our June call. That is almost $1,000 that they took.

I’m stuck with Centurylink but stay away if you can

I’m stuck with Centurylink because of where I live and if I could pick another company I would. I work from home and their internet has been out since early this morning. As I write this it’s been over 16 hours with no update.

Trying to get a credit on my account was a struggle. Called the billing department and after selecting the outage option, I got automated messages saying there’s an outage (duh!) and no option to speak with a human. I managed to use their bot chat and after 10+ minutes got a confirmation number for a credit but they couldn’t tell me for how much (really?!).

I’ll probably be on my deathbed by the time a real internet provider gets here but until then I’ll keep fighting Centurystink.

Your time is worth nothing to this company

I still have a landline because where I live, it is necessary. My account was closed September 3 2024 because my bill was late due to financial issues. I called that day and paid the bill and asked to have the service re-established. The FIRST day they could send a technician was November 4th!! They said someone over 18 would have to be there. I live alone so was forced to take off work and lose an entire day of pay. I received a verification phone call on November 3rd and again the morning of the 4th verifying that a technician would be there. NO ONE SHOWED UP. I called and was told there was some kind of computer misinformation issue. I was told that the next day they could come was the 21st of November. I took yet another day off and again, no one showed up. Again, I was told there was some king of "miscommunication". Now I had lost 2 days of pay. The next time offered was November 27th and NOW I was told I did not need to be at home. So, I called and asked to have my bill adjusted due to the fact that I lost 2 entire days of pay due to their incredibly horrible system. This is what they offered. My bill is $135.00 and they decreased it to $95.00. This company needs to go bankrupt.

Big ole Email Plus ad draped across all my email folders

CenturyLink now has this black banner draped across all my email folders that says "Email Plus," an in your face nag 24/7. It is such a bulky nuisance, I have complained to EVERYONE and am totally ignored now and told nothing can be done about it. It's honestly one of the rudest things I've ever seen a company do, been going on for about four months now. UPDATE 4/11/2025: Wish I could share a print screen of it, but see that's not possible here. It really is unbelievable and there is no justification for such cruelty to customers. Outrageous beyond words.

Centurylink is garbage

Centurylink is garbage. As if the internet wasn't bad enough, we have been out of service for 3 weeks now. They have scheduled service appointments with us 6 times, which you have to be home from 8-5. They have not shown up yet, no warning, no rescheduling, nothing. I am so frustrated we just got on the starlink wait list. Hopefully that doesn't take too long. This started over a month ago.

MY 95yo mother in law's phone has been…

MY 95yo mother in law's phone has been dead since 12/20/2024. I, her son in law has been trying for 2 days to reestablish service for her. I call the 800 244-1111. You never can get anyone that speaks understandable English, you get passed around 3 or 4 times explaining the situation and then your call gets drop! Now I have to start all over again, wait 20 minutes for someone to answer you. Then you get to explain all over the situation to a new person who is hard to understand so they can pass you around 3 or 4 times until the call gets dropped again
This has to be the worst customer service ever. How do they stayn in business?

Every months for 4 months I've gone at…

Every months for 4 months I've gone at least one week with no internet. I had the wifi service for 2 years for them to increase prices while the service deteriorates. To add insult to injury I added a protection plan to my outside lines because I live in the country and had problems with rodents eating my lines. After they came and replaced the lines for the second time yesterday they told me that the insurance would no longer cover my outside lines that I would have to start paying out of pocket even with insurance. When I asked for my insurance money to be refunded I was transferred four different times was on the phone for 2 hours for the solution team to tell me that $100 has always been my rate which is untrue based on my bank statements and they refused to cancel my insurance. With me having a prepaid account I told them I was not prepaying the insurance so they stopped my service and told me if I wanted my service reinstated I would have to prepay the month plus the insurance for them to cancel the insurance which is contradicting in itself. After 2 hours of arguing I finally gave up hung up the phone and I'm currently refusing to pay the bill especially considering all of the months I have had to go without internet due to their crappy service.

I am having trouble with my phone…

I am having trouble with my phone service. A technician came out today and found that the problem is at the main CenturyLink box. I called 3 times to find out about when a different technician was going to come fix my phone problem. The CenturyLink phones technician done have any I p to date information for me and they don't seem to care at all that my phone is not working. The customer service at CenturyLink is the worst! They give you the run around and don't seem to care that I am having a problem. Why we in Minnesota still have them as a phone company I don't know. The technician that came to my home even said the equipment CenturyLink uses is out of date and need a major upgrade. It's sad they don't care about their customers!!!!

2x no call no show

Scheduled an appointment for December 3rd and was told to be available between the hours of 8am and 5pm. Waited all day for no one to arrive. Re-scheduled for December 20th and the same thing happened again. No accountability for Centurylink, just an apology for wasting two full days of my time. They had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to re-schedule for a 3rd time. Centurylink couldn't care less about customers.

Terrible Customer Service!

We used Century link for internet service for 7years …outages occurred more and more often and we finally cancelled our service on June 1st. On Dec 18th I received a text that we owed $63 on our account when I contacted customer service they replied that I still owed them for May’s bill plus a penalty. When I asked them why they had not contacted me sooner they replied that a text and a bill had been sent each month. Such rubbish, I never received a text or a bill. While I was a customer I never once was late with payment. Terrible customer service . Save yourself a lot of aggravation and don’t get involved with this company.

CenturyLink - The worst Experience Ever!!!

Do not ever use CenturyLink as a provider. Worst internet and customer service period!!!
When you try to cancel online or in the app, it states that you have to call. It literally took me 6 calls and two hours to speak with someone that would not hang up. I recorded the conversation and told them I was cancelling and they were being recorded. And to send me the return shipping label for the new router. Their online account will not load the return hardware link or return shipping label.
Stop payment and record your cancellation.
Never use this provider!

THEY DON'T CARE

The WORST! We are running a business and have put up with internet outtages every time it rains for years. Now we have had terrible and no telephone service for months and finally have had NO INTERNET for weeks and THEY DON'T CARE! We get notices that techs will arrive and they don't show, or they show up and don't tell anyone they are here and supposedly fix the problem, but it's not fixed or is worse. No way to get anyone on the phone, everything is done via email or text. OUR PEOPLE CAN'T WORK, OUR CLIENTS CAN'T REACH US and CENTURYLINK DOES NOT CARE!
