I booked a signature room

I booked a signature room to have a king size bed yet when we get there it’s just 2 single beds pushed together, the hotel is 25 yrs old I know but the mattresses and pillows don’t need to be!!!! The bed was uncomfortable and worn out, the pillows were hard and flat, the bed and pillows gave my fiancé and myself a painful back every morning and a stiff neck and that is not what you want to be feeling like on a vacation which is meant to be recharging. The room was dusty and there were stains on the carpet, marks on the long wall mirror, a mouth print on the glass and finger prints all round the spy hole on the door. The cleanliness of the bathroom was shocking, hairs on the floor and in the shower, scup round the taps and also in the shower and even the white towels had stains on them, the photos need to be updated on the website along with the rooms, when I made my booking it shows you get a sofa in the room I booked, we didn’t we got two chairs !! It also stated there would be a mini bar !! It was just a fridge, not exactly a mini bar !! Whilst we were there only 2 lifts were working and they are very slow and constantly full of people so we had to take the stairs which were shockingly unattractive and looked like a multi story car park staircase. The hotel is not exactly cheap to stay in and yet they charge £20 per night to park in the indoor car park and £10 per night outside was not informed of this before booking only when we got there, should be free. On a positive note all the staff very friendly and helpful.

Booked this for my son’s 21st including dinner & breakfast. Restaurant was booked for 8.15pm. They went for the shuttle to be told the last one was 7.30pm and offered a taxi. Package deal included 3 course meal at this restaurant but wasn’t made aware during booking or check in that the shuttle finished at a certain time and the restaurant closed early. Poor lack of communication

Very Disappointing!

We were informed an hour or so before arriving for our meal at Steak on Six that we had to follow a dress code. No trainers or teeshirts. My wife and I dressed appropriately as you do. Unfortunately when we arrived we were well overdressed. Most people in the restaurant was dressed trainers teeshirts jeans! We was very disappointed that we paid £275 for a meal with Champagne and the experiencewas no better than a run of the mill every day high street restaurant.
We then went down to the main bar where we paid £32 for two double gin and tonics. To sit at a lounge table that very sticky where it hadn't been cleaned, the glass surrounding the entrance area covered in finger prints.
I don’t mind paying top money for 5 star but people walking around in shorts and trainer with flip flops on Friday night at the Celtic manor is more like 2 star charging 5 Star prices. It’s really gone downhill from years ago.
Taxi picked us up asked how we enjoyed ourselves. We told him our experience he said, everybody he picks up sayes the same thing.

Awful customer service

Awful customer service - currently trying to book a golfing party for my son (£30 per head so not cheap). Have called through to about 4 different departments - no one seems to know who deals with it (even the golfing department!!), after 30 mins on hold, manage to get through to reception they then promised that the manager would call be back within the hour - guess what? No one has bothered to call back - I mean, honestly, the customer service is terrible it’s like they actively want to put you off booking anything

I am disappointed that I am writing this review as I have always enjoyed my visits to Celtic Manor, but recent events have left me disappointed to say the least. Sunday lunch booked for my wife and mother in law at The Olive Tree, as usual you cannot fault the service or quality of the food, however my wife paid the bill but they also debited my card which I had used to secure the booking, not a big problem I thought! A quick phone call would sort, it turns out not to be that simple! Many emails later, lots of chase ups and broken promises by Robbie no refund, apparently with the accounts team, so over 2 weeks later and through frustration I contacted American Express, dispute raised, refund on account the same day. Shame on you Robbie and #celticmanor such poor service!! #mustdobetter !!

Thank you so much

Thank you so much Vinnie, Olive Tree Head Chef, Ellie and all those who helped me when things didn't quite go to plan. These loyal kind staff went over and beyond to help me with my special heath requirements. I am truly grateful.

Thank you also to Ben the Manager for actively listening to my needs. We both managed to remain calm and under stress and you resolved the problem swiftly and amicably.

Thank you to all the staff and Celtic Manor Resort and the ICC for making our stay pleasant and comfortable.

The room was spotless, comfortable and large. The view and morning sunshine was spectacular.

Olive Tree food is delicious. Vinnie catered for my special dietary needs superbly. He is a wonderful asset to the Celtic. ευχαριστώ

Reception staff, housekeeping, concierge and transport staff were impeccable. Thank you.

Overall, our stay was enjoyable. I would recommend you to family and friends

You truly are an exceptional company - your training, human kindness and efficiency is outstanding.

Celtic Manor Coldra Court Rib Smokehouse disappointment

My wife and I went to Coldra Court for a celebratory meal at the Rib Smokehouse and Grill. Very poor service from the restaurant manager, and senior staff. We had requested a larger and quieter table, but this wasn’t offered, and it took 25 minutes for a drink order to be taken, with a further wait of 15 minutes for 2x drinks to arrive. The poor waitresses did their best but seemed very inexperienced and struggling from the team being understaffed. The table was barely large enough for two plates and two glasses, but when our main course (Texas Platter) arrived we had to sit diagonally, at opposite corners. When I tried to engage the restaurant manager, he dismissed my comments about it flippantly and walked away. I’m aware of the reported failing standards at the resort overall, and this has confirmed this for us.

How does this place get worse every time?

Have reviewed the Celtic before, but today I had a "Spa" day for my birthday. My partner kindly bought it for me and we were looking forward to it. Sadly, it was typical Celtic Manor fare. The booking (despite her calling up twice to confirm the details) was taken down wrong so the spa staff thought we were having different treatments to what we had booked. Even after explaining this to the receptionist, the word didn't get through to the actual people giving the treatments. No big deal but not amazing.
She had apparently booked some fizz on arrival, never happened.

The swimming pool ceiling has collapsed which is no surprise after decades of sweating the assets at this poor excuse of a "resort" - I have a friend who works there and literally no money is spent on anything. As a result we were unable to use the pool or the Sauna (as this was also out of order).

The lunch offering (a Bento box apparently) was dismal and didn't even come with a drink which was extra (£3+ for an OJ or a modest £11.45 for a glass of wine) - we had to get a proper lunch shortly after leaving.

The massage was rushed and not relaxing in the slightest. About 15 before completion some loud dance music came through the speakers which had been playing the drab spa musing. The masseuse explained that they were "trying to fix the sound system" and that it kept happening. Not good at all.

I'm not a Karen in the slightest, I really don't care about a few minutes, but my 50 minute treatment was 40 minutes in total, which is pretty poor.

After spending literally 100's of thousands of pounds in this place with my company I said I wouldn't give them another penny in food and beverage, which I haven't. I will now never give them another penny in the Spa, and I will continue to broadcast this far and wide to my not insignificant network.

Celtic Manor you are a TERRIBLE advert for Wales, I genuinely hope that Terry M sees this and all the awful reviews about his property. Maybe he will do the decent thing and sell it to an operator that knows how to run a world class facility.

(Also massive cobwebs in the roof of the Spa relaxation room!! How do you allow this stuff??!?)

DO NOT STAY HERE

DO NOT STAY HERE ! Room - No air conditioning in the rooms with 28 degrees heat outside and when information relaid to front desk team someone turned up with a fan! Useless! Another room eventually offered where the air conditioning didn’t work either, pathetic system they want to try turning it on ! Food - Offered buffet restaurant only as all others where full -this after being sent on a pointless half hour walk to see other restaurant to be told all full - ridiculous

Honestly the worst experience I’ve ever…

Honestly the worst experience I’ve ever had. I’ve never worked so hard to get a refund for a spa package that I wanted to cancel and did so in the correct time frame!!

I booked a spa package for the 30th June, only to find out the next day the spa facilities aren’t actually open that day. I have tried to cancel and get a refund for said package and still nothing. I have called 5 times, I’ve been palmed off by different people from different departments. At one point I was told I can’t have a refund for a spa package, even though on the website it clearly says you need to cancel 7 days before. I initially asked for a refund on the 14th a June (well within the allotted time).

Why is it so hard to get your money back? You have to ring up and sit on hold each time for 10-15 minutes before you speak to somebody and that’s if you don’t just get hung up on!

I will never ever recommend this place to anyone they have been horrendous at sorting the simplest of requests. Refund me my money!!

Be aware! : Golf Cart Refunds / Unacceptable Behavior

In early April 2024, four of us arrived to play golf and stay at Celtic Manor.

The Roman Road and Montgomerie courses were open but unplayable due to heavy rain and should have been closed by the resort.

The resort should have phoned us beforehand and saved us driving 4 hours each way. No golf was played. We obtained a credit for the hotel stay and returned home after lunch.

At the golf pro shop, staff actually took payment for £110.00 for 2 golf buggies which they said would of course be refunded due to the adverse weather conditions and no golf being played.

Two months later, over 20 emails and calls with James and Tom from the pro shop, no refund has been received. Latest is that the refund is with the Director of the resort for approval ?!

This is seriously unprofessional and unacceptable behavior from a resort this size and has left a serious bad taste with myself and 3 friends.

Let’s see if I ever receive the £110.00 refund …

Serene and Stylish

My husband and I spent 3 wonderful nights at the Celtic Manor Resort last week for a conference and were really impressed. We stayed in a Signature Room (641), which offered access to a tranquil and tastefully decorated lounge serving hot drinks and the best millionaire shortbread I've ever eaten, complimentary glass of Prosecco between 4pm and 6pm and a private paid bar from 3pm. Our room was elegantly and high-end furnished, a pleasant surprise given some of the reviews I had read on Trustpilot before our stay. The cloud-like bed was fitted with sumptuous thick linens and the bath towels and robes were of an exceptional quality - all new and fluffy. We had a narrow balcony and view over the high ropes adventure course and canopy of woodland toward the golf course beyond. The complimentary Elemis toiletries were a nice surprise and turn down service brought an additional treat of Elemis pillow mist or bubble bath. Wide choice of tea/coffee pods for the machine were replenished daily, along with Welsh cakes and biscuits. The little fridge included a complimentary bottle of sauvignon blanc along with glass bottles of mineral water, and the room was immaculately cleaned by the very friendly staff.

We ate at Rafters Restaurant on our first night. The starter of bread with black garlic butter was superb, as were the Steak Dianes. Rafters is perched high above the river with uninterrupted views, offering the perfect place to watch the sun set. Guests are shuttled in minibuses the short 2 minute ride each way from the main hotel, and we waited no more than a minute for collection.

We were guests at an excellent Holroyd Howe function as part of the bursar's conference the very next night, and again, the staff of the Celtic Manor provided exceptional support to HH's impressive food selection (if you're a UK boarding school you'd be hard pushed to find tastier food than Holroyd Howe offers - very, very impressive).

On the third night I ordered room service - a Celtic burger with cheese and bacon (the latter is something we can't enjoy in the Middle East) and sticky date pudding; both arrived hot (not tepid like our experience in many hotels) and absolutely delicious. More than half of the rich pudding was left, but only because of the large portions. Yum!

The only meal that let the resort down each day was breakfast. Whilst the food could not be faulted in any way, staff employed at breakfast were clearly B list. We watched as an older and very tall waitress with a blonde bob walked past tables, seemingly oblivious to the need for collection. Other staff congregated to join her each morning for a chat and a laugh, while people wanting a table for breakfast had to approach the group to ask for a table to be laid. For this reason I considered awarding 4 stars and not 5, because it wasn't just a one-off, but the staff everywhere else in the hotel were exceptional, so we didn't let their breakfast colleagues detract from their efforts.

The friendly staff at the front reception were all absolutely lovely and couldn't have been more genuinely helpful.

A friend joined me for a relaxing day in the Forum Spa, and though guests get free use of the facilities anyway, we bought a very reasonably priced package that included a 50 min facial/upper body massage combo and a healthy lunch in the spa's cafe. I returned the next day for a 'candle ritual' treatment by Ellie O which was absolutely divine and worthy of 5 stars, and spa manager Pippa offered superb customer service. The only thing that disappointed us about the spa was seeing a girl (presumably a life guard) with her feet up at the desk on her phone; this lowered the tone of the spa, along with the fact that frustratingly only half of the pool lounges had comfortable white padding on them. Not sure why this is.

There are three short woodland walks on the property, the longest of which (yellow route) is about 2.5km to the end and back. I'd hoped to run it but it was quite overgrown in parts (the clue is in the name of course - woodland walk), so I used it to relax instead. Stunning!

All in all, our first stay at the Celtic Manor Resort was excellent. This resort offers the perfect escape from the rush of everyday life, and with an abundance of quiet places to sit and read (or just soak up the serenity) we will definitely be returning. Thank you to the genuine and wonderful staff (apart from breakfast), and we look forward to returning soon.

8 off had a 2 day break there last wed/Thurs. Played both Montgomery & Roman Rd. Very disappointed.!!?. Albeit we can appreciate that the weather has had a huge impact on everyone, evefywhere. On both courses all the bunkers had not been touched for days.!! They were shockingly bad. Not been raked for days and the grass around them was very long and scruffy. Ive seen better municiple courses. And take into consideration the price you pay for everything. It was really, really bed. Too sumerise." At least Dick Turpin wore a bloody mask."!!?????

Poor customer service

Not a review of stay but a review of the level of customer service. Had a gift voucher bought for us by our son at Christmas this year. Found it today and realised I wás 7 days over the expiry date. I'm in the middle of moving house but didn't want to wait a minute longer to make contact with the Celtic Manor because I understand that expiry dates are there for a reason and terms and conditions too. I knew there was a six month time limit but thought I had until June...I didn't realise they'd been super organised and got voucher in November. I explained this and offered to book today as the extension of expiry date involved a charge. Now I've worked in customer service and there are always times when discretion can be given and circumstances that can be taken into consideration. Unfortunately for me Katie from customer service wasn't feeling that today so whether I book today or opt for an extension I have to pay a charge. Well played another £20-£50 in the till for me to ensure my son and his partner's money and gift doesn't go down the drain!!

unhelpful customer services

I was given a gift voucher for a stay at Ty Milford Haven which is 100 miles from where I live unfortunately in January I had to have a a major operation to save my leg which meant that the voucher would expire before I would have chance to use it. I contacted customer services who agreed to extend it but for only 3 months after which I would have to pay an extra £50 to extend further. They refused to swap it to a nearer Celtic Manor hotel and were really unhelpful when I tried to gift it to my son to use. It looks like I will now lose the value of this voucher which I guess is worth about £150. They told me that the date I wanted to book was unavaliable yet if I booked online using cash it was available. Just a warning I woudn't bother buying vouchers as the customer service is very unhelpful if changes need to be made.

Fabulous time

My husband, our 13yr old son and I spent 1 Saturday night at the resort.
We had dinner at The Grill which was excellent! The breakfast was also very good.
The only downside was having to queue for the bar before dinner.
Me and my son went on the high ropes as he had to be accompanied by an adult. Unfortunately I realised I was terrified of heights but Alex, the instructor, was absolutely fantastic and helped me round the whole course! Thank you!
We thoroughly enjoyed our 24 hours at the resort.
