We’ve been using Capium for almost a year now, and we’re genuinely impressed with how it’s shaped up. Sure, there were a few hiccups early on, but once things settled, it’s been smooth and reliable. Powerful Features but Not User-Friendly
I have been using Capium’s Bookkeeping, Accounts Production, and Tax Return modules for about a year. I also trialled their Payroll and Practice Management modules but did not like them, so I did not continue beyond the free trial. This review therefore relates only to the Bookkeeping, Accounts Production, and Tax Return modules.
I have experience using a wide range of accounting software, and in comparison, I find Capium to be far from user-friendly. You will spend a significant amount of time working out where and how to record data. Compared to more established and reputable software, processing information in Capium takes noticeably longer.
For this reason, I do not believe this software is suitable for a busy practice. Training new staff would be challenging due to its poor usability. However, it is worth noting that Capium’s support team is responsive and helpful, typically replying within one working day.
One positive aspect is data synchronisation. I particularly like the functionality whereby updating the trial balance in the Accounts Production module automatically updates the saved accounts in accounts production and in CT600.
To give a couple of examples: while preparing a tax return, I needed to adjust Class 4 NICs due to NICs already paid on employment income. I could not work out how to do this within the software and eventually had to raise a support ticket with Capium. Although they responded the next day and explained the process, this is not something that should require support intervention.
Another example relates to claiming Foreign Tax Credit Relief. After entering the foreign income, recording the foreign tax deducted, and ticking the “claim foreign tax credit relief” box, the tax computation still did not reflect the relief. After spending considerable time experimenting with different options, I discovered that the foreign tax credit also needed to be entered under the “unremitted income” tab. This is an illogical location when the income is not unremitted. Additionally, the foreign tax credit must be calculated manually by comparing the foreign tax paid with the UK tax on the same income.
That said, the software does have a lot of potential. However, it clearly needs stronger input from a business analyst to improve usability and eliminate unnecessary repetition. For example, claiming Foreign Tax Credit Relief requires entering the same data across three different tabs, and recording brought-forward losses also requires input in multiple locations.
In summary, in its current state, this software is not suitable for a busy practice. It is not user-friendly and requires excessive repetitive data entry.

I have been using Capium for around FIVE years
I have been using Capium for around five years now. The software is constantly being updating and if support tickets are raised they are generally responded to and resolved quickly. I have had a lot of contact with Nick over the years and has always been understanding of our needs as a small practice. Always able to help me through any issues and must say he is good at his job. I would rate Capium to the highest level of software I have used as all modules interlink rather than 5 or 6 different ones.
