THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! I recently turned 18 and wanted to open a checking and savings account with Capital One. When I received a message saying that I needed to call to verify my identity I did so and they told me I have to appear in person at a branch or cafe. The closest location is over 7 hours away (I am a college student and do not have a car). Both trying to figure out if I could verify using a notary or another method and trying to figure out why my account was flagged resulted in a terrible experience with their customer service. The supervisors were rude, condescending, and flat out lied about being able to escalate the situation. I will NEVER recommend Capital One, especially to young adults who have limited customer service experience as they will try to manipulate you based on your lack of experience.

I’m extremely disappointed with Capital…

I’m extremely disappointed with Capital One and how my account was handled.

My credit card account was closed because of a payment issue that was not intentional on my part. I made my payment toward the balance, but the money was later returned to my bank account. From what I was told, the issue was related to the bank/payment processing and was not something I intentionally did.

As soon as I noticed that the payment had been reversed, I immediately contacted Capital One. They were able to run the payment again and take the money to cover the balance. I paid what I owed. However, even after I corrected the payment issue, Capital One still closed my account.

What makes this even more frustrating is that the account closure had a major impact on my credit. My credit score dropped approximately 31 points, from around 719, even though I didn’t have an outstanding balance after the payment was corrected.

I understand that Capital One has policies they have to follow, but I feel like this situation was handled unfairly. I contacted them as soon as I discovered the payment had been reversed, corrected the issue, and still lost my account and took a significant hit to my credit.

I worked hard to build my credit, and it’s extremely frustrating to have my score affected this much over a payment that was reversed and then immediately corrected. I expected better communication and customer service from Capital One.

This experience has definitely changed how I feel about Capital One, and I will think twice before doing business with them again.

The Capital One BJ's card.

I applied for a Capital One BJ's card online. They approved it on a 807 credit score and sent the card. I used it for less than a week before they demanded documentation proving that I made what I stated. The documentation was three weeks of payroll statements. This is a just credit card and the statements show who I work for, deductions, etc. Highly sensitive information for an unsecured credit line. I canceled the card immediately.

I’m extremely disappointed that Capital…

I’m extremely disappointed that Capital One has closed the branch that was near me, leaving us with no convenient location to go to when in-person assistance is needed. This is especially frustrating for older customers and anyone who may not be comfortable or able to handle every banking issue online.
While I understand that businesses are moving more services online, customer convenience and accessibility should not be overlooked simply to reduce costs. Not every customer has the ability, confidence, or resources to manage every situation digitally, and there are times when speaking with a real person and receiving in-person assistance is necessary.
The closest Capital One location is now a significant distance away, which creates an unnecessary burden for customers who need help. I hope Capital One will reconsider how these decisions affect its customers, particularly older customers and those who genuinely need in-person support.
Capital One should be focused not only on saving money and increasing digital services, but also on making sure its customers feel supported, valued, and accommodated when they need assistance.

I have had capital one for YEARS

I have had capital one for YEARS. I have never had in issue until today, and they handled it HORRIBLY. I requested a wire transfer to my own external bank account, and they denied it because they “didn’t have enough information.” What do you mean??? You have ALL OF MY INFORMATION! After this interaction I’m canceling all capital one accounts and finding a new BETTER bank. Absolute ludicrous that they won’t let me move my money from one of my accounts to another of MY OWN accounts!

I had 2 issues:

I had 2 issues:
1. Opened a checking and made 2 $500 payroll deposits before 75 days for their $250 advertised bonus as they requested. I waited many months for the bonus. When I finally called to ask, they said I was supposed to use a link. I explained that I opened it directly at the branch with the help of an employee who never mentioned the link for the bonus. They refused to give me the bonus...very disingenuous for the employee to not use the link.
2. My debit card was hacked and used to make a purchase. They immediately canceled my card and although stated I can make one last withdrawal for cash (no offer to credit me for atm charges), I was transferred to several representatives and at the end was told, I could not make the withdrawal and would need to wait 3 business days for my new card. I have no cash, no bank card throughout the weekend and up until Tuesday. This was Thursday evening and they didn't offer to have my new card overnighted so I can receive it by Saturday morning.

Update 9/15/26: previous to the hack, I already had a new card in transit because the tap would not work. This card would have the same number but different exp date and CVV, arriving in 7-10 business days. When I called about the fraudulent charge, I was told this card in transit would be canceled as well and a NEW card would be expected to arrive in 3 business days. Well, the rep expedited the canceled card and NEVER issued a new one. Now I have to wait another 3 business days.

Just opened 360 checking account

Just opened 360 checking account. First attempt to withdraw cash at my other bank using capital one debit card. My other bank atm would not process my request said push exit and remove card. I did. Then went to 711 atm 2nd attemp to get money from my capital one account. Was only allowed $200. Cool. Next day I'm looking over my capital one account and notice a withdraw of $300 plus 3.50 fee. THIS WAS MY FIRST ATTEMPT TO WITHDRAW BUT COULD NOT BE PROCESSED! CAPITAL ONE LITERALLY TOOK MY MONEY WHERE AS THAT 1ST ATTEMPT TO WITHDRAW NEVER WAS APPROVED AT MYTH OTHER BANK!!! CAPITAL ONE SAID 45 DAYS TO INVESTIGATE. IN THE MEANTIME, I'M OUT $303.50! ROTTEN THIEVES. THEIR OWN REPRESENTATIVES INDICATED " THIS IS A PROBLEM WE'VE BEEN HAVING" CLOSING EVERYTHING AT CAPITOL ONE ONCE I GET MY MONEY BACK! ROTTEN PRACTICES. ILLEGAL???

Can't get correct billing/shipping address

When having a problem making a transaction and the charge was declined. I contacted customer service. They were no help. They said that they would get the matter corrected. But even the following day the problem was still prevalent. What's the Discover card for over 30 years? And nothing but problems since capital one merged with discover. Because of the inability for customer service and a supervisor to correct the problem, the card was canceled, which didn't seem to be too much of a concern for the original call taker. Or the supervisor. With a over 820 credit rating and a credit line over 20k, I guess they don't care about a long term client. As a retired LEO, stay away from thus company.

Avoid Capital One Credit Cards

I am writing to express my absolute outrage and complete disgust with the appalling level of service provided by the Capital One transaction team in attempting to resolve a credit card purchase dispute.. Dealing with this department has been an exercise in pure frustration, characterized by a level of incompetence that is truly staggering.
It is genuinely baffling how a financial institution of this size can employ a team so fundamentally incapable of basic communication. The lack of comprehension is profound; it feels as though I am speaking a foreign language despite communicating in plain English. The representatives are unable to grasp simple facts, ignore the core of the issue, provide form letter responses that don't address the issue at hand, and provide contradictory information that solves nothing.
One cannot help but wonder if this systemic failure is a result of outsourcing the team to regions where English proficiency is an afterthought. If this team were actually based in the U.S., perhaps they would possess the linguistic competence and cultural understanding necessary to actually listen to a customer and process a transaction request without needing it explained five different ways.
The sheer indifference and cognitive dissonance displayed by your staff is an insult to your customers. I expect a level of professionalism and clarity when managing my finances, yet I have received nothing but confusion and incompetence. Capital One should be embarrassed by the standard of service being offered by this team. This is not just poor customer service; it is a complete failure of operational basic logic.

The world's worst bank

The world's worst bank. Their automated AI call system can't verify anything and gave incorrect information. The actual customer service team with real people failed to send a wire after confirming it twice on the platform and via email that it went through and then charged me for the wire just to send it back the same day, and won't wave the wire fee after confirming on their end that the wire went through even though it didn't, so they want to charge me again for their own mistake. I've been a customer for a decade, and they are 100% unwilling to waive fees for their own mistake. The customer service was atrocious, and they sounded like it was their first day on the job or simply untrained in their role. They had to transfer me three times until someone knew how to do a basic account verification. The entire experience was off. I do not recommend.

Because I've Been With Capital One More…

Because I've Been With Capital One More Than Three Years And Im Lost Without Words. I Usually Overdraft My Bank To Pay My Bills. Well On This Day They Wouldn't Let Me Overdraft A Hundred Dollars To Pay My Bills. That's Normal Amount I Get Everytime But Not Today They Had Something Up Their Sleeves. I Was Told By One Of The Supervisors That I Couldn't Overdraft Because They Control Our Money That We Overdraft. Again I Am Lost Without Any Words. At This Point I'll Rather Look For Me Another Bank Which The Supervisor Was Told By Me. Its Unacceptable And Very Unprofessional I Don't Allow It And Won't Allow It.

We paid off our loan a week ago and made at least 5 calls regarding letting dmv know. The continue lies cost us a sale and $350. We had to borrow from our cd to give buyer back the $20000 he paid but cancelled the sale because we could not give him the title that was promised. We will never do buisness with them again

This company is awful

This company is awful. Paid my balance in full 9-1, on 9-8 they tried charging an I interest fee on a zero balance. Customer services does not listen. You ask a simple question and they answer with, let’s review your activity. No, I know the activity, I asked a question about how can interest be changed on a zero balance. Card cancelled m, the end. Save yourself, don’t use!

Blindsided by Capital One

I was blind sided by Capital One. They closed four of my cards and stated it was due to unusual behavior on my cards! They are lairs. I used the cards this past weekend on vacation. When I got home I asked for a limit increase on one of my cards. All of a sudden Capital One declined my increase and now I have four cards that are canceled.
This has effectively harmed my credit and now I have balances that have to be paid before they go to collections.
There are so many other cards out there. I would stay away from Capital One.
Capital One is a horrible company and I would look somewhere else before you go with Capital One.

What an absolute NIGHTMARE

**A $118 Fraud Attempt Turned Into Weeks of Financial Chaos**

I have been a Capital One customer with a checking account and multiple credit cards, and my recent experience with their fraud department has been one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I have ever had.

This began with an attempted fraudulent hotel booking of approximately $118 using my rewards points. I absolutely expected Capital One to protect my account. What I did not expect was for their response to create significantly more disruption than the fraud itself.

Capital One locked my online access, closed my checking account and three credit card accounts, and left me without normal access to my money and credit for weeks. This happened while I was traveling for work and relying on these accounts for business expenses. The financial and professional impact has been substantial.

Trying to restore access has been incredibly frustrating. I provided multiple forms of documentation, only to have documents rejected for various reasons. Meanwhile, I was left trying to manage bills, travel expenses, and everyday financial obligations without reliable access to accounts I had legitimately opened and used.

Even more concerning, Capital One contacted members of my family who were not account holders. I specifically raised concerns about this, yet I experienced additional third-party contact afterward. I still have serious questions about why people who were not on my accounts were being contacted regarding an issue involving my financial accounts.

I have spent hours trying to resolve a situation that started with an attempted fraudulent transaction worth roughly $118. The response has resulted in weeks of account-access problems, disrupted travel and work, difficulty paying bills, and enormous stress.

I understand and appreciate aggressive fraud prevention. I want my financial institution to protect me. But fraud protection should protect the customer without effectively locking the legitimate customer out of their own financial life for weeks.

I have filed formal complaints because ordinary customer-service channels have not provided an adequate resolution.

My biggest takeaway is this: **the attempted fraud was a relatively small problem. Capital One's handling of it became the much larger one.**

I hope Capital One reviews not only my individual case, but also its procedures for account verification, extended account restrictions, communication with customers, and contacting third parties who are not account holders.
