The buses are disgusting

The buses are disgusting. The cleaners use polish on the seats and they stink of chemical reaction. There is mould build up and fungus all around every bus especially the 60 bus to Berwick. You can smell petrol on the bus which suggests an issue and I feel faint and chesty after the journey. They also put the fan on maximum even when children are on the bus and most people are coughing and children feeling drowsy. The drivers don't care and most of them don't have any vocabulary. They also discriminate against people with disabilities even though they also have them which in some cases is visible physically and through their behaviour.

Reliable

Reliable, clean, modern busses with space for bikes and push chairs.

Don’t really need to write this review…

Don’t really need to write this review as there are so many bad ones on this site. My main complaint apart from price is that the buses are never on time. Absolutely no continuity to my local service (X62) sometimes arrives 20 mins late, 10 mins early or not at all. Have just about fell over a couple of times after the drivers quickly excellerate away before I’ve got to my seat.

The app is a joke as buses disappear off it for no reason. Most of the time I end up walking to work, I’m in a physical position that I can but pity the elderly or people with poor mobility.

Drove off without stopping for 8 passengers

If only I’d have read these reviews before travelling with the company today. Our experience was with the 3:11 PM 418 bus service from Craster heading north.

To our disbelief, the driver turned the bus around at The Heugh and left all eight waiting passengers behind. We were left completely stunned by this action. Several of us were already standing at the stop, and the rest stood up as the bus approached. The driver did not make any attempt to stop or check if passengers were waiting.

I called Customer Services and spoke to a helpful lady who facilitated the driver’s return. Unfortunately, she refused to give her name – I wonder whether this is standard company policy? I would have liked to acknowledge her assistance properly.

When the driver eventually returned, he claimed he “didn’t see anyone get up for the bus” and thought we were waiting for the X18. This explanation is baffling, as the X18 could not have arrived until at least 3:45 PM – we passed it on our onward journey. Even if the driver was genuinely unsure, why didn’t he stop or check with us before turning around?

He refused to offer any apology for the confusion or delay, which only added to the frustration of the experience. One can’t help but wonder whether he was in a hurry due to being behind schedule.

Just drive straight past you

Just drive straight past you. Train missed due to their useless driver. They couldn't care less either so don't bother complaining. The overall review of this company would be much lower if everyone who had an issue posted a review. Shoddy outfit .

Well to heck with customer needs and all that jazz

Frequently and frustratingly trying to figure out to and or from to Kelso I am finding that Border bus timetables do not connect with Scot rail arrivals from Edinburgh usually by two minutes
Wrote to Border Buses to ask why
They said their service used to connect but after Scot rail changed their time table they do not see why they should adjust theirs and have no plans to make a 5 MINUTE ADJUSTMENT so that passengers can catch the bus to further rural destinations
Well so much for customer service
Pity the poor folk who are ruled by these kind of dinosaurs

Trust pilot only allows one date
When I could give several

It’s 7am pitch black and cold

It’s 7am pitch black and cold, currently sat stranded as the bus continued to speed past the stop despite being stood with light on my phone waving as he drove towards me. My bus ticket has now expired and I have nothing on me to pay for the next bus in another 30 minutes in the freezing cold. It is nearly a three hour walk to selkirk. The prices are extortionate by any bus standards and by far the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Either late or early but you can rely on them to never be on time.

Just have to congratulate the driver of the X95 this morning after being faced with an accident on the way to Gala , he managed to get us all safely delivered to our destination with some quick thinking and some excellent driving down a very tricky route. A very calm, collected and unassuming man. I for one was very grateful. Well done that man.

Perhaps a training requirement

We attempted to travel on the 67 bus from Ord Country Park Berwick to Kelso at 10.20am 13th September. Our English bus pass failed to register on the auto reader and we were told we would have to pay for the journey by the lady driver. She stated that 5 or 6 regions of England were the same. We pointed out the English Rose on the pass which was well in date and the route into Scotland
is an approved cross border journey. Sadly the lady was very excitable and as the journey cost was over £20 return we left the bus, as we did so, she shouted I give you free travel. We tried to contact Border Buses offices, calls and emails unanswered. We later spoke to three very pleasant drivers who were amazed at what had happened, in fact we travelled the same journey the following day without a problem using our bus passes. Perhaps this incident shows a training need. The fact the company cannot be contacted is sad and perhaps shows a couldn't care less attitude.

The bus driver made me miss my train

The bus driver made me miss my train by driving over the wrong side of the tracks and then the barriers went down so I had to get on the same bus home get someone to drive me to a different train station and buy another ticket for £10. Overall, I paid £10 for the train ticket £3 for the original train ticket £1.75 for the bus ticket and petrol on top of that. As a struggling student this is less than ideal and will be looking for compensation !!!

Poor service

Ignoring passengers waiting at bus stops, dismissing complaints and not responding to emails without being chased.
Some might say arrogant, others might say incompetent. Which ever is true they have the monopoly on some routes so they are unlikely to improve.

Didn’t bother to stop

253 bus didn’t bother to stop at the Jewel when it turned up, just pulled out from behind the two buses that were already at the stop and drove off without actually bothering to see if there was anyone waiting to get on it. I had a day ticket but as the next bus on that service was 2 hours I had to pay for another bus into town so I could get the 2nd borders bus and complete the 2nd leg of my journey to Peebles. Not stopping must be a habit with some of their drivers, when I was on that X62 to Peebles just at IKEA there was a woman with a child who clearly had her hand out for the bus to stop but it just drove past her. Gets 2 stars instead of 1 because once you actually manage to get on the bus they’re actually quite decent to travel on

Drivers wanting to have an argument

Border Buses driver managed to hit my car at the pinch point at Newbattle, driver never stopped. Had to chase the driver up to the Fitness Centre at Main Steet to get the driver to stop.

On telling the driver she had hit my car her response was that I was driving to fast, she has 12 cameras on the bus and 10 witnesses. Note the bus was on my side of the road and I was withing my lane. Despite asking three times for her details all she wanted to to was have an argument. I eventually had to leave with photos of the damage to the bus and my car along with the bus reg.

Contacted Borders Buses and was assured someone would look into this despite 2 emails, still no reply.

Unprofessional drivers, and unresponsive management.

Charged 40% more than cost advertised on website

I travelled on Borders Buses from Edinburgh to Cockburnspath in March 2024. I'd checked the price on the website beforehand and it said the cost of my journey was £5.80, but I noticed I'd been charged £10.10. I emailed Borders Buses and was told that the price on the website was for tickets bought in their app, not a walk on fare. I pointed out that their website fails to specify this - there is only one set of prices and nothing that says you would be charged a higher price if you paid on boarding rather than in the app. After almost a month, they have eventually refunded me the £4.30 extra I was charged over the advertised price but it was a time consuming process of back and forth with people who didn't seem to see any issue with charging me 40% more than the price advertised on their website. Very frustrating
