get an independent inspection

The selling experience was great but the vehicle I purchased had obviously not been through a 200 point inspection. Within a week most systems on the car failed and then it lost its brakes luckily not causing an accident. The garage found over £3000 of urgent repairs including having no rear brake pad material and Big World have left me with the bill.

Hi Karl,

We are truly sorry to hear about the significant issues you've experienced with your vehicle so soon after purchase, especially regarding the brake failure. This is certainly not the standard we aim for, and we understand your frustration and concern. We would like to investigate this matter further for you.

Very poor from Big Motoring World, Misleading Advertising

Very poor from Big Motoring World. Mum paid,£129 to move a car to this branch to view and the car had a terrible smell of cigarettes all of which was not disclosed on the advert of the car. Again the car had only one key and no V5 and this was also not disclosed on the advert. Felt it was money down the drain, as simple honest advertising could have prevented the expense. Both the branch and their head office wringed their hands and said nothing could be done about the money spent and refused to take responsibility for poor and misleading advertisement. This is not how a large company like this should be treating customers in this day and age. I bought my car from this company 4 years ago and this is why I had my family look to buy from them. The sales executive who we dealt with was very professional and helpful but the management handled this issue appallingly. Buyer Beware...

Hi Ant,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re sorry to hear that the vehicle did not meet your expectations when you travelled to view it, particularly regarding the cigarette smell, the single key and the V5.

We understand your frustration, especially given that you paid to have the vehicle transferred to the branch and feel that these details should have been made clear before you made that journey. We’re also disappointed to hear that, despite having previously purchased from us, you felt your concerns were not handled appropriately by management.

We appreciate your kind comments about the sales executive who assisted you, and we’ll make sure that feedback is recognised.

We’re sorry again that this experience has left you feeling let down, particularly after previously having a positive experience with us.

DO NOT BUY FROM BIG MOTORING WORLD

I genuinely cannot remember ever dealing with a company this frustrating or incompetent. I initially thought some of the one-star reviews for Big Motoring World seemed extreme. After our experience, I completely understand them.

My wife and I arranged to purchase a vehicle from their Norwich dealership despite living in South East London. We were offered a £129 transfer or told the vehicle could be reserved for us if we made the journey ourselves. We chose to drive three hours to Norwich with our toddler.

When we arrived, we eventually spoke to an advisor who disappeared into the manager’s office before returning to tell us that our supposedly reserved vehicle had been sold two hours earlier.

We had driven THREE HOURS specifically because we were told it would be reserved.

Already frustrated, we chose another vehicle they had on site. My wife test-drove it, everything seemed fine and we agreed to buy it.

Because our finance had already been approved for the car they had sold, amendments were needed. By around 5pm, we were told the finance company had closed and nothing could be done until the following day. We hadn’t planned an overnight trip and had our toddler with us, so Big Motoring World offered to cover a hotel.

We returned at 10am the next morning and, after yet more waiting and finance delays, finally left with the vehicle around 3-4pm.

Unfortunately, that was only the beginning.

On our FIRST drive home, we discovered multiple faults. The air-conditioning fans switched off above level two, one headlight didn’t work at all and the other was so dim it was practically useless, the window-lock button didn’t work and the brake pedal was squeaking.

We had owned the vehicle for a matter of HOURS.

We had also paid for an additional three-year extended warranty, only to be told that because the faults appeared within 48 hours, they were considered pre-existing and therefore Big Motoring World’s responsibility.

We contacted Big Motoring World and were told they would arrange diagnostics at an authorised garage near us. Days passed with nothing happening. We repeatedly called for updates and were repeatedly promised callbacks.

Those callbacks never came.

Eventually, after constantly chasing them, we got the vehicle booked into a garage. They found a problem with the air-conditioning blower motor and said further diagnostics were needed, but they couldn’t proceed without authorisation from Big Motoring World.

So once again, WE had to chase them.

When we called to explain that the garage needed authorisation, the attitude of the staff was appalling. Rather than showing any urgency, we were made to feel as though we were inconveniencing them by asking them to deal with faults on a vehicle they had just sold us.

It is now DAY TWO of our vehicle sitting in the garage. I called the garage again this morning and they are STILL waiting for Big Motoring World to authorise the work.

In summary:

* We drove three hours with our toddler for a reserved vehicle that they sold before we arrived.
* We unexpectedly had to stay overnight.
* Our replacement vehicle developed multiple faults within HOURS, including defective headlights.
* Our extended warranty couldn’t deal with them because they were considered pre-existing.
* We have spent days chasing Big Motoring World ourselves.
* We have repeatedly been promised callbacks that never happen.
* Our newly purchased vehicle is now sitting in a garage waiting for Big Motoring World to authorise further diagnostics.

The most frustrating part is that nothing seems to happen unless WE chase them.

We have already made complaints directly to Big Motoring World and given them the opportunity to put this right. Instead, we’re still chasing them while our newly purchased family vehicle sits in a garage.

Enough is enough. I am now taking this further with Trading Standards and The Motor Ombudsman, and I intend to send our full experience to BBC Watchdog.

Buying a new family car should have been exciting. Instead, it has become weeks of frustration, wasted time, broken promises and endless phone calls.

If you’re considering buying from Big Motoring World, please take the one-star reviews seriously.

I wish we had.

Funnily enough, after reporting the faults when we got home, we noticed a picture of our car on the front of the inspection sheet we were given with all our paperwork. The headlight was out in the photo. That sure does tell you the quality of their 200 point inspection they like to rave about.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed account of your experience. We’re genuinely sorry to hear how frustrating this has been, particularly given the distance you travelled with your toddler and the problems you experienced so soon after purchasing the vehicle.

We’re concerned by the points you’ve raised regarding the reservation, the condition of the vehicle, the inspection documentation, the faults identified shortly after purchase, and the delays in arranging diagnostics and authorising work. We also recognise how frustrating it must have been to repeatedly chase for updates and callbacks when you reasonably expected us to take ownership of the situation.

We’d like to investigate this thoroughly, including the inspection photograph you mention showing the headlight appearing to be faulty. Please contact the team at BigAssist@bigmotoringworld.co.uk and a member of the team will be in touch.

We’re sorry that what should have been an exciting purchase of a family car has instead resulted in such a disappointing experience. We appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention and would like the opportunity to review what happened and work towards a resolution.

Purchasing a car

Big Motoring World Wimbledon provided a great service.

Syed, the sales executive was very informative and explained every detail of the car and additional packages well.

Lucas, the handover advisor guided me through all the warranty details and set me up on the breakdown cover efficiently.

I'm excited to be driving the new car.

Sales guy was brilliant

Sales guy was brilliant, but after that the rest of the service was dire. Collection was a chore, sat for 40 mins after appointment time, as finance person was having her lunch… eventually left with car at 4pm. Arrogant non interested staff, not interested once they have your money. I will never set foot in the place again.

Extremely disappointing experience with Big Motoring World

I purchased my a Mercedes GLC from Big Motoring World in Maidstone around two years ago. As this was my first major purchase, I took the time to thoroughly inspect the car, carry out the necessary checks and take it for a test drive. Everything appeared to be in good condition, so I felt confident going ahead with the purchase.

Unfortunately, that confidence quickly disappeared. On the three-hour drive home, while travelling at around 70mph, the car began shaking noticeably. I later discovered that the wheels/tyres were imbalanced and the car required a wheel alignment.

I contacted Big Motoring World about the issue, but dealing with them was extremely difficult. What followed was months of back-and-forth emails, with me being sent to multiple places and having to repeatedly pursue the matter before they eventually agreed to refund me for the work that had been carried out. What was particularly frustrating was that I felt I had very little support or option to simply return the vehicle.

Unfortunately, the problems did not end there. The wheel alignment issue continued to reoccur roughly every 8–9 months. I have also experienced ongoing electrical issues with the vehicle.

More recently, the situation became even more serious when the car required an engine replacement. When the vehicle was inspected by the garage, I was told that the original Mercedes engine had apparently been glued on, which had subsequently resulted in foam and rust developing around the area.

For a purchase that was supposed to give me confidence and peace of mind, this has been an incredibly frustrating and expensive experience. As a first-time buyer making such a significant purchase, I expected much better customer service and, more importantly, a vehicle that was properly prepared and fit for purpose.

The way my original issues were handled left me feeling trapped with a car that continued to develop problems, and the recent findings regarding the engine have been particularly upsetting.

I would strongly encourage anyone considering purchasing from Big Motoring World to carry out as many independent checks as possible before committing to a vehicle. My personal experience has been extremely disappointing.

Hi Jannat,

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed account of your experience. We’re genuinely sorry to hear how frustrating and costly this has been, particularly as this was your first major vehicle purchase.

We’re concerned to read about the issues you experienced shortly after collecting the Mercedes, as well as the difficulties you describe in getting the initial wheel and alignment problems addressed. We appreciate that having to go through months of correspondence and multiple referrals before reaching a resolution would have been extremely frustrating.

We’re also sorry to hear about the subsequent problems with the vehicle, including the electrical issues and, more recently, the engine replacement. The comments regarding the condition of the engine and the work identified by your garage are particularly concerning, and we would like to understand the circumstances surrounding this.

While we’re pleased that you ultimately received a refund for the initial work, we recognise from your comments that this did not address the wider concerns you had with the vehicle or the experience you received.

We’re sorry that your experience has fallen so far short of the confidence and peace of mind you should have been able to expect when making such a significant purchase.

Stay away from this dealer

Stay away from this dealer, paid £129 for a car to be moved from enfield to Wimbledon, booked a test drive, car was waiting for me running, bit strange but i've done the test drive, all good, sales person parked the car and car wouldn't start again, dead battery, looks like the 200 point check is useless, while the selling process was ongoing they promise that they would fit a new battery and the car would be ready for pick up next day, next day come and no communication,no update, nothing, called several times no manager was available to give an update, receptionist told me he couldn't do nothing as his was just the receptionist, was promised a call back, never happened, tried to call and receptionist was picking up the phone and putting the phone down straightaway, after 7 attempts a manager picked up the phone to tell me the battery was requested and could take up to a weak to be delivered,i requested to pick up the car like that, that I could sort it out in a couple of hours, they have agreed, told them I would be on my way to pick the car, once there they took me to the collections team, waited for 45min and not a single soul asked me if I was being served, loads of staff playing around, joking ,having fun, doesn't look good when few customers are waiting for a long period, had to call a member of staff and let him know I was waiting for 45 min. Eventually they have decided to serve me, car was delivered filthy in and out, definitely a dealer to avoid.

Shocking!!!

By far the worse service I have received when buying a car. And I’ve brought several cars in the past all from dealerships. The sale executive wasn’t bothered if I brought the car or not. His attitude was basically here’s the car and here’s the keys. do you wanna buy it or not. Luckily I know about cars and spec because he wasn’t helpful in the slightest. Took the car for a test drive and noticed the breaks grinding quite badly. When mentioning this to sale executive. I was told that it passed a mot and if they needed doing they would have been done and the grinding is from it being parked up for a while. After deciding to buy the car I was left for 2 hours waiting for finance and handover even though it was a cash purchase. Spoke to the manager on 2 separate occasions in them 2 hours and was apologising for the wait I understand you can be busy but I don’t think that’s acceptable. I have had the car checked over the next day at a car garage only to be told the car needs to breaks and pads front and back and it should of been noted in last mot as it was only done couple weeks ago. Would never buy a car from there again. Hopefully a manager can get in contact with with me so this issue can be resolved but I highly doubt it

Hi Wayne,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re sorry to hear that your purchase fell so far short of the standard you expected, especially as you have bought several vehicles from dealerships previously.

We’re particularly concerned by your comments regarding the brakes. You raised the grinding noise during your test drive and were given an explanation for it, so we understand how frustrating it must have been to subsequently have the vehicle inspected independently and be advised that the brakes and pads required attention. We take concerns about vehicle safety and preparation extremely seriously and will ensure this feedback is passed to the relevant team for review.

We’re also sorry about the length of time you were left waiting for the finance and handover process. We appreciate that, even during busy periods, waiting around two hours after making a cash purchase is frustrating and not the experience we want to provide.

Your comments regarding the sales executive's attitude and the lack of support and information you received are equally disappointing. Customers should feel valued and properly supported throughout the buying process, regardless of whether they ultimately decide to purchase.

We understand that you would like a manager to contact you regarding the issues with the vehicle. We would encourage you to contact our After Sales team directly with your purchase details so that the matter can be investigated and the appropriate team can review the concerns you've raised.

We’re sorry again that this experience has left you feeling that you would not return to Big Motoring World, and we appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention.

I don't recommend it. Big Motoring World.I get junky car from them.

I bought a Kia Niro 4, and for how very much I paid, you’d expect a proper high‑spec car. The test drive felt great, everything seemed solid — until the moment things actually mattered.

🧍 Dealer “professionalism”
While waiting to sign the papers, I noticed a chip on the windscreen, right at the bottom.
I told salesman agent clearly that I’m not signing anything until they fix it.
Shortman the manager, came over and promised they would repair it.
Not “maybe”, not “we’ll see”, but promised.

They gave me two options:

- Pick up Monday without repair
- Pick up Tuesday repaired

I chose Tuesday.
And I signed only because they promised the repair.

Then Tuesday came.
I went to pick up the car.
And guess what?

The windscreen was NOT repaired.
The promise was just… air. Premium air, I suppose.

📱 Kia Connect — or “Kia Disconnect”
After buying the car, Kia Connect refused to let me buy anything from the shop, saying the car isn’t eligible.
A Niro 4 without OTA updates is basically a Niro 2 pretending to be fancy.

Downloaded the latest software.
Installed it.
Nothing changed.

Even Kia’s website didn’t recognise my VIN. I had to download updates manually by model and year.

🔍 “Premium details”
After taking the car home, I noticed:

- a scratch on the bumper
- small scratches covered with polish
- tyres that were not Michelin, even though Niro 4 comes with Michelin from factory
- mixed tyre brands, with only one Michelin
- no floor mats, because apparently mats are “optional luxury items” now

📻 Warranty — the final surprise
I called Kia about the 7‑year warranty.
They told me the diagnostic is £165.
Asked about warranty coverage. Their answer:

- the car has 7 years
- the radio only has 3 years
- if it needs replacement, I pay
Premium experience indeed.

🧾 Sarcastic conclusion
The Niro 4 is a good car… if you get it straight from the factory.
But when you pay very much and end up with a broken promise, an unrepaired windscreen, mixed tyres, scratches, missing mats, no OTA updates, and a radio with half‑warranty, you start wondering if you actually bought a Niro 2 wearing a Niro 4 badge.

Hi Mr Albu,

Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. We’re very sorry to hear that your experience after purchasing the Kia Niro did not meet the standard you expected.

In particular, we understand your frustration regarding the windscreen repair. If you were specifically given the option to collect the vehicle on Tuesday on the understanding that the repair would be completed, we appreciate why finding it had not been done would have been extremely disappointing. We also acknowledge your concerns regarding the condition of the vehicle, tyres, floor mats and the issues you experienced with Kia Connect and the warranty.

We certainly don’t want any customer to feel that promises made during the sales process have not been honoured, or that they have been left to resolve issues themselves after purchase.

We appreciate your positive comments about the Niro itself, and we’re sorry that the overall buying experience has left you feeling so let down.

⭐ 1 Star

⭐ 1 Star - Very Poor Experience, Misleading Sales Tactics and Poor After-Sales Service

I had a very disappointing experience with Big Motoring World Wimbledon and would strongly caution anyone considering purchasing a vehicle from them.

I purchased a Tesla Model 3 2022 model and was sold a 3-year warranty covering the battery, drive unit, and other components. What I was not told at the time was that Tesla's manufacturer warranty already covered these major components until 2030, making this additional warranty appear unnecessary and poor value. Had this been explained clearly, I would have made a more informed decision.

To make matters worse, the vehicle was sold to me with faulty suspension, despite Big Motoring World claiming that every car undergoes a 200-point quality inspection before being sold. Based on my experience, I seriously question whether such a thorough inspection was actually carried out on my vehicle. A suspension fault should have been identified before the car was handed over to a customer.

The problems did not stop there. The car was also supplied with faulty wheel covers, which produced a loud banging noise whenever the vehicle went over speed bumps or potholes. This issue was immediately apparent during normal driving.

The after-sales service from the Wimbledon branch was particularly disappointing. I dealt with handover manager and handover advisor, who repeatedly assured me that they would contact me to arrange replacement wheel covers. However, after multiple follow-ups over several weeks, I was continually given the same response that replacement wheel covers had been ordered, yet nothing ever happened. I felt I was repeatedly misled and given false assurances instead of receiving actual support.

My experience has left me with very little confidence in Big Motoring World's quality control processes and customer service standards. I would strongly advise potential customers not to rely solely on the advertised 200-point vehicle checks and to carry out their own thorough inspections before purchasing.

Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would recommend avoiding Big Motoring World, especially the Wimbledon branch.

Pros: None that outweigh the issues experienced.
Cons: Misleading warranty sale, faulty suspension, faulty wheel covers, poor communication, and extremely disappointing after-sales service.

Hi Usama,

Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience with our Wimbledon team has left you feeling so disappointed, particularly regarding the condition of the vehicle and the support you received afterwards.

We’re concerned by your comments about the suspension and wheel covers. These are exactly the types of issues we would expect to be identified and addressed as part of our vehicle preparation process, and we understand why discovering them after purchase would have undermined your confidence in the checks carried out.

We’re also sorry that you experienced delays and repeated assurances regarding the replacement wheel covers without receiving the resolution you were expecting. Good selection of cars and turnaround but too pushy

Good selection of cars and turnaround - however , the sales staff at Rotherham/Sheffield are extremely pushy - there are no prices anywhere for the add on services like alloy or paint cover - they pluck figures from thin air - clearly upsells are a big factor in their pay packet and they are relentless - like a rabid dog with a bone . We felt held hostage and couldn’t wait to get out of there …

Hi Toni,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re pleased to hear you were happy with the selection of cars and the turnaround, but we’re genuinely sorry to hear about your experience with our sales team.

We take your comments about the pressure to purchase additional products, and the lack of clear pricing for these services, very seriously. Our customers should feel informed and comfortable throughout the buying process, never pressured or “held hostage”.

We’ll be raising your feedback with the Rotherham/Sheffield team so we can look into what happened and ensure our approach to optional products and pricing is clear, transparent and respectful. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Great experience

Yesterday was absolutely brilliant. So easy to park up and get around the place.

All staff was very friendly and approachable.

We would like to thank Imogen for her help. She made Yesterday so easy and we cant believe we drove away the same day.

We will definitely be telling friends and family to use this place.

Thanks for the drinks and thanks again.

Very disappointing experience with Big…

Very disappointing experience with Big Motoring World

After 4 weeks they still not resolved the issue and they just responding once a week.

I recently purchased a Volvo XC40 from Big Motoring World and unfortunately my experience has been extremely disappointing.

The biggest concern is the accuracy of the vehicle checks they presented to me.

Their own inspection report recorded the nearside front tyre at approximately 3.3–4.3 mm. However, I raised concerns about the tyres on the first day after purchase, and I had the vehicle independently inspected by Kwik Fit approximately one week later.

Kwik Fit found the same nearside front tyre had:

* 2.0 mm on the inner edge
* 3.0 mm in the centre
* 3.0 mm on the outer edge

No even near to what they have in their reports.

They also identified an alignment issue. Again something that they reported as done.
Big Motoring World has agreed to reimburse the alignment cost, but they have refused to replace the tyre.

My concern is simple: if the vehicle was genuinely checked as stated in their inspection report, how was a tyre with only 2.0 mm on the inner edge and significant uneven wear reported as being 3.3mm?

I only owned and drove the car for approximately one week, and the issue was raised with Big Motoring World immediately. I do not believe normal driving over one week can explain this level of uneven wear.

This has left me seriously questioning whether the checks shown on the dealer’s inspection report were actually carried out properly, particularly the tyre measurements and assessment of the tyre across its full width.Plus the other x amount of inspection claimed as done.

I am not accusing anyone of deliberately falsifying a report, but the difference between the checks presented by the dealer and the independent inspection is extremely concerning.

For me, the issue is not simply that a tyre needs replacing. It is the fact that I relied on the dealer’s inspection when purchasing the vehicle, yet an independent inspection shortly afterwards found a significantly different condition.

I would strongly recommend that anyone buying a vehicle from Big Motoring World independently inspect the car before purchase and do not rely solely on the dealer’s preparation/inspection report.

I am still hoping they will reconsider their position and take responsibility for the tyre issue.

Hi Vali,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are sorry to hear that you have been disappointed with the handling of your concerns regarding the tyre condition and the length of time taken to reach a resolution.

We appreciate that you relied on the vehicle inspection information provided to you when making your purchase, and we understand why the difference between the measurements recorded on our inspection report and those subsequently provided by an independent inspection has caused concern.

We are also sorry that you feel the communication regarding your case has been insufficient. Waiting for updates over a number of weeks is understandably frustrating, and we recognise that we should aim to keep customers informed throughout the process.

We note that the alignment cost has been agreed for reimbursement. Your remaining concern regarding the tyre and the differing measurements has also been noted, and we would like the opportunity to review the matter fully with the relevant team, including the inspection information and the independent findings.

As we cannot discuss the specifics of an individual case publicly, please contact our After Sales team with your vehicle registration and review details so that we can locate your case and ensure your concerns are reviewed appropriately.

We are sorry that your experience has not met the standard we aim to provide and appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention.

Kindest Regards,
Big Motoring World
