Thank you so much for the review of your recent 11-day Grand Tour including the Jacobite Steam Train – a trip that follows a scenic route through our beautiful country, visiting historical sites and packed with experiences to enhance your visit. It sounds like your driver and guide, Tom, really delivered to ensure your tour group had a memorable experience.
A tour such as this takes months of planning and an astonishing amount of effort to pull together in order to deliver a well-organised experience, but despite our team's best efforts, occasionally unforeseen scenarios present additional challenges. When personal items are accidentally left behind by a guest in the Highlands of Scotland where infrastructure is minimal, it can be extremely challenging to get these items repatriated with the owner in a short time frame. In most cases 5 working days is not uncommon.
For clarity, as soon as Tom alerted the office team to the situation, Best Scottish Tours were able to assign 4 different team members to locating and organising your left luggage, and between them they managed to have it moved to your next location within 3 days. Some of the options available transpired to be more onerous than others, but these still had to be explored given the challenging nature of the Scottish Highlands. Although left luggage is ultimately the responsibility of the guest, Best Scottish Tours will always assist in the best way we can to help guests get their belongings back, and in this case, we also covered the full cost of the repatriation.
Our preference would have been to allow Tom to dedicate the very next day to drive you both back to the previous night’s hotel to get your left luggage, but unfortunately this was out of the question as you were on a shared group tour and unexpected detours would have seriously diminished the tour experience for your fellow travellers.
While we regret that this situation caused you distress, we do gently remind all guests of the importance of keeping personal belongings, particularly essential items such as medication and official travel documents, close at hand whenever possible.
Your recommendation means a great deal to us, and we hope that you will return to Scotland as there is still so much more to explore.
