Toxic.

in terms of content this site is excellent, one of the best but unfortunately there is an ever present level of toxicity omnipresent which isn't only tolerated but occasionally even engaged in by the mods. If opinions are given that are contrary to the tribe then you had better have a thick skin because the mods evidently don't care. A bit of a shame on what otherwise could be a perfect forum. I am posting in the hope that just maybe it might tweak a nerve and get the mods to be a bit more hands on and self reflecting with the passive aggressive elements that presently wander the forum unchallenged.

The best musician forum I've used

The best musician forum I've used, focus is basses (electric and upright), bass amps and bass playing but it's a valuable resource for everything music-related, from recording to hifi to gigs to artists. Got a question or problem, there'll be a bunch of experienced and expert opinions within hours. Also has THE best bass marketplace in Europe

The only forum bass players will ever need

Fabulous site for all things bass related, populated by some very knowledgable, amusing and occasionally well known players. Also a great and safe place to buy or sell. I've been a member from its previous incarnation as Bassworld and although it's grown significantly in that time the knobhead quotient stills remains mercifully low, so it's an easy place to pass a few hours without really noticing...

Not just for low end

Basschat is a very friendly forum, with lots of knowledge musicians. It provides tons of information from playing bass, other instruments to technical aspects of music instruments and equipment. You can purchase music related and other items from trusted members. The topics are categorised so every subject has it's particular place. I have turned to basschat after being abstinent from music for over a decade and do not regret it.

Received an email begging me for money…

Received an email begging me for money whilst acknowledging I’ve not used their site since July 2015…

“ Living costs are going up for all of us in the UK thanks to the Ukraine invasion, Brexit and the impact of COVID on supply chains. This is why we wanted to ask a favour.”

We have had a failing government for over 10 years, who have not been on the side of the public, and are looking after their own assets and interests. That’s why we’re up the creek - every other country seems to have adjusted for the inflation, and no other public is suffering like British.

Then to ask someone from UK, who hasn’t visited your site in 7 and a half years, to start giving you £20 a month. Why? I’m struggling too. If I can’t afford to put a full meal on my own plate or put on heating then I certainly dont have £20 to give to a dead, boring website that I have no use for.

I am astounded at how tone def your begging for money is, why did you think this would be a good idea?

I think the email was only meant to go to current ‘active’ users so that was a mistake. Otherwise we do enjoy the ongoing support of many members who enjoy the site, and we’re trying to remove our reliance on banner ads. Nobody has to pay a penny if they can’t afford it or don’t want to.

Better than TalkBass

It's a really good site with a lot of knowledgeable members and some really interesting discussions take place here.
Certain mods (self appointed father figure is the worst offender) are incredibly patronising and pop up on almost every post to offer their oh so important opinion. Definite clique problem here that hasn't got any better over the years with some threads descending into mass fart sniffing love-ins between members of the in crowd.

Great marketplace and general atmosphere apart from that though

Basschat.co.uk is a friendly site where folks can discuss anything bass related, music related and non-bass, or music related. They're a friendly crowd and things are generally all kept very friendly.
The mods on the forum are all good people too; being generally helpful and very fair.

Unbeatable Web Resource

There are precious few places on the Internet where expertise and good humour meet in such a pleasant environment as Basschat.
Yes it can get wonderfully nerdy, irreverent and passionate, but that's fine - bass players care about their chosen instrument.
Buying and selling on this site has always been, for me, a painless and safe experience. I have traded, bought and sold instruments, amplifiers, speakers and effects through the Basschat market place for many years and never had any problems.
There is a one off annual fee to use the market for sellers, and it's so cheap, I actually see it as more of a small donation to the upkeep of the site than a commission on sales.
The expertise, knowledge and wisdom people share there is second to none. I've learned to read music with help from members, learned how to replace a trussrod in a bass, downloaded content freely shared by other members and made genuine real life friendships.
Highly recommended site.

One of the best, if not the best.

One of the best, if not the best, forums on the internet.
Hugely knowledgeable people always ready with friendly advice and help on anything bass or music-related. There are all abilities (total newbie to arena players) and all are equally valued. Also a very safe marketplace to buy and sell.

What really distinguishes BC though is the community. There aren't the snide put-downs and trolling you get elsewhere, or if there are then the mods are pretty quick to intervene. There's a fair bit of silly humour (bad puns and quick wit are everywhere!) but there are genuine friendships and concern for each other here too. Some threads off topic cover quite personal issues, the warmth and depth of advice and support is amazing.
If you play bass, any standard, any gear, any style, you should at least checkout the site.

Bass players are nice

Great forum - well moderated and all round friendly bunch, low on cliques and welcoming to newcomers. The richest seam of credible opinion on bass kit in the world.
