Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 166 reviews, reviewers overwhelmingly had a great experience with this company. Customers frequently highlight the excellent staff, praising their helpfulness, patience, and professional approach, which makes learning enjoyable and effective. The user experience is consistently described as positive, with many appreciating the platform's flexibility, ease of booking, and the ability to schedule classes at short notice, even minutes before they begin. The product, including the curriculum and variety of teachers, receives high praise for its effectiveness in improving Spanish speaking ability and confidence. However, some reviewers were not happy with the service, mentioning issues with the curriculum materials being useless or error-ridden, and occasional difficulties in finding available teachers for specific programs like DELE. A few other people also felt that some teachers were unprofessional or struggled with conversation and error correction, and there were concerns about a mandatory class recording policy that was later reversed.

There is always great availability with wide choice of teachers who are puncture and ready to teach. They make full use of every session. I can already fee my Spanish skills and knowledge improving even though I only started my 1st class 3 weeks ago.

Boot Camp review

I want to be clear this is specifically about the Boot Camp program, not BaseLang as a whole. I actually like the concept behind Boot Camp and think it makes a lot of sense, but the execution and standards weren’t consistent in my experience.
For the first 4.5 weeks, my professor barely spoke to me in Spanish. There wasn’t much real conversation or even attempts at it. It was mostly reading, fill in the blank, and grammar work, and he just wasn’t very engaged. I realized I wasn’t improving much, and since I’m living in a Spanish speaking country, I knew something needed to change. I emailed the Boot Camp team, explained my experience, and they switched my teacher pretty quickly.
My second teacher was definitely better. We spoke a lot more, and I think I would have made significantly more progress if I had her from the beginning. That’s why I think the program could be really good, but it needs stronger training and clearer standards to make sure it’s run the way it’s intended. It’s supposed to be conversational and in the first half of the Boot Camp that just wasn’t my experience.

I started at level 1 and I’m around level 3 now, so there was some improvement. I may meet BaseLang’s definition of conversational, but I can’t confidently hold a real conversation in the actual world yet.

The program is also mentally draining, even doing the semi intensive version. Based on my experience and results, I wouldn’t personally recommend Boot Camp, but I can see how it might work better for others. I’ve also heard a lot of good things about their other programs, like Real World, which I’ll be switching to now.

They are honest in their instructions…

They are honest in their instructions and in their explanation of what to expect. They said clearly it takes time to find instructors you like and succeed with. They said language learning is a process for most people and worth the investment of time it takes, they are correct about that. Their system of stressing speaking the language is working well for me. After many frustrating attempts at learning Spanish over many years, I feel I am succeeding with this program.

Confidently conversational in 3 years

I have been doing Baselang for 3+ years. I am confidently conversational (not fluent at all) in Spanish (I started with nothing having taken French 40+ years ago). In fact, I just got back from a 2-week semi-immersion trip to Mexico and I pretty much only used Spanish during the whole trip (except, some English with my travel partners). I do still make a ton of mistakes and my vocabulary is growing, which my teachers help me with. I tend to do mostly conversation classes, which is useful for learning, but also keeps the learning fresh. I could probably make more progress if I followed the curriculum more, but for me, this is a hobby and languages have never been easy for me (I'm more of a math person). The teachers are all great and I feel like several are now my friends. Baselang is also very easy to use and the website and scheduling couldn't be easier. I highly recommend.

An incredible option and value for serious learners

My teacher is Ms Maritza. I am loving my time with her! I ask her A LOT of questions and she always takes the time to answer thoroughly. I ended up in the boot camp class because I originally wanted to study abroad - it would be the only way for me to actually learn the right way. This program seemed to be the best alternative because I did not have the means to leave home to study Spanish. So essentially I was looking for the best alternative to a study abroad program... And this is indeed exactly what I needed! Highly recommend for serious learners!

Nothing to fault

I've never had a bad instructor, and I've tried at least 30 of their 300 or so. Staff are almost always available even on short notice. Quality website and lessons. Customer service is also great.
