Goods never received, 0% finance not transferable to alternatives
I was offered interest-free credit on a Samsung tablet at Amazon, which seemed great. I applied and was accepted with only a small amount of hassle (I could not do the electronic signature to the Ts & Cs and had to phone for help). The order of the tablet was cancelled by Amazon on the morning it was supposed to be delivered, citing "non-availability of stock". I naturally decided to try again, but there was no tablet at a similar competitive price to the order that was cancelled, neither was I offered free finance anymore. Apparently offers are "one time only", and count as "used", even if your order was never fulfilled through no fault of your own. Several days later, I did see the tablet re-offered, again with free finance, albeit at a considerably higher price than first time. As I was really keen on it, I decided to accept the hit on price, and order again, as I was going to get a year to pay for it. Again the order was cancelled on the morning it was supposed to come! I understood at the time of applying for finance that it was 0% for a year. That was of course of no benefit to me on orders that weren't fulfilled and I didn't have to pay for. But what I hadn't appreciated was that each offer only applies to the specific purchase. I HAVEN'T got a year's interest-free credit to buy whatever other things I might like within my credit limit. When I browse higher-value items at Amazon today, I MIGHT be offered 0% finance (extremely rare), I might be offered finance at a fee (more common) or I might be offered no finance at all (the norm). It's completely arbitrary whether the item you're considering comes with a finance offer, or what that offer is! I don't know why I have this stupid agreement, when the only times I've ever tried to use it, the purchase never turned up, and it doesn't apply automatically to alternatives. I do find something a bit scammy about it, both with Amazon accepting orders for high-value items they fail to supply, and Barclays offering 0% finance without making clear it's only for that specific transaction, and won't necessarily be offered or honoured in respect of anything else, even if it's not your fault your qualifying order failed!
Had to make numerous long calls just to…
Had to make numerous long calls just to get a refund when my Amazon account was in credit. Limited functionality via the app. All seems very second rate and Amazon should have partnered better.
Fake free interest finance offers
I believe this company to be partaking in a fake offer of free finance. The customer is told that this is available and yet the process seems deliberately complex and opaque.
Need to move with the times
When it works, it works without a problem. But my god you have to go through hell to fill the form. The form is so utterly complicated! Try entering a date… if you start typing, it removes the format the date has to be in and then its just a guessing game. And with that date input… when did you move in. Day required. Like, what? I get you can put any day and its fine but seriously? And the neverending form. They really need to move with times. What was the colour of your door when you moved in? What was the hour you started your current job? What was the weather on the day you moved in? And god forbid if you forgot if the it was windy on that day - your application gets rejected lol
Avoid
As others have said , tried to use for apple purchase as the interest free deal seemed good, rather than paying in full up front. Despite having completed a previous agreement with Barclays Finance successfully with them in the past 2 years , still required to speak to a call centre in India (not Cardiff as its shows on the correspondence ) which was very difficult and required further evidence to be sent by post which they already had from the previous agreement !. Luckily was able to cancel the order painlessly with apple and re order and pay direct. Will never click on the Barclays finance option in the future
I really don't understand how they…
I really don't understand how they work.
I had a loan before with them was approved with no issues, and paid it all back.
I recently applied for an Amazon purchase it was 103 pounds originally but with all the Christmas spending I thought I might as well,
Now I applied to buy iPhone and I was rejected.
I bank with them for 20 years and never missed any payments and my credit score is good above 600.
I am not sure what are they doing but seriously thinking of switching my bank account.
Amazon find yourself better finance partner !
I have an excellent credit score, wanted to purchase tv on installment from Amazon and got rejected. Amazon find yourself better finance partner
Absolute joke of a finance company
Absolute joke of a finance company. Applied for a 2 year interest free loan for an Apple IPhone 14 and was rejected. Never been rejected by any other loan company in my life. No defaults, late payments, missed payments. Have taken out 2 other interest free loans in the past 6 months with no problems. Credit score is very good.
A very well known National Golf retailer ditched Barclays because they were rejecting a substantial amount of applications
Unprofessional threat letter if I don’t…
Unprofessional threat letter if I don’t continue to have installment plan on my bank when I have no product from Amazon. It was refunded. Saying they will suspend my account and I’ll get bad credit even though it’s paid and product returned. Will avoid using this in future
I am done with Barclays
I am done with Barclays. When you have this many negative reviews, you will know something is wrong with them. In fact, I am done with fiat currency. I will focus my money on crypto investments with companies like Planoff, fomo, etc. where I will make profits on my money and won't have problems with fiat
Waste of time, Unprofessional
Applied for Ipad purchase 0% loan (why not to pay in settlement)
After accepting my application and considered eligible for the loan, forwarded the required documents in post and email.
Waited for few days and then found my order has been cancelled as they rejected the loan.
What the hell !! Is it for real, keeping people waiting for days and asking them to do paperwork for you to reject it at the end !!
After reading people’s reviews with their way of finance I understand now why they ate rating bad.
Ancient systems - poor communication
An error happened on my form for a finance application.
Instead of being able to fix it, after posting them documents and having to email them with follow ups, they told me it can’t be fixed and I should restart the process
So frustrating and feels like an ancient customer experience vs other companies
Seriously don’t use them
Impossible to pay
Tell you go phone , then the phones tells your to use the app and then yeh soo tells you to call … Takes you around in circles . Took me an hour to sort anything
BPF Decline
I thought I was the only one to be declined for a 0% finance loan to purchase an iPhone but reading the comments below, it appears to be a common occurrence. I have a high credit score, lived at the same address for 20+ years, always paid mortgage, credit cards, loans & bills on time without fail. Although I could pay for the phone outright, I thought it would be good to spread out the cost. I was initially declined by the system but decided to appeal. They felt I didn’t meet their criteria despite the monthly payment being only £30. To appeal I had to email BPF my passport, drivers licence and bank statements and was told curtly you have been declined before they cut me off the phone. No chance for a discussion or ask what happens to my ID. I will be complaining to their head office and the banking ombudsman if necessary. Shocking service.
Terrible service from BPF.
Terrible service from Barclays as usual. They seem unable to ask more than one question concurrently, and then ignore your responses for days, before rejecting proof as not being suitable. Apparently an American Express statement is not a credit card statement.
Save yourself the wasted time in dealing with them and go elsewhere.
Just got screwed by this
Just got screwed by this. Needed a new item, was able to afford to pay off my existing plan. Asked BPF if I could repay early and get new item on a new plan, was advised that I could. Made the repayment, my monthly payment didn't change in the app so I contacted their customer service to be told by some moron who didn't understand how their own product works that my monthly repayment wouldn't change even though I'd paid off my plan.
Tried to get the new item on the off chance that the system just needed to be refreshed. Was sent an email saying that my monthly payment limit was now £10 as opposed to the much higher amount it was before the repayment. So now I'm out of pocket for the early repayment AND can't buy the new item. When I contact them all I get it "Computer says no..."
Rejected finance despite good credit score and no prior negative financial history
I recently went to the Apple Store to apply for finance for a new iPhone. I however was rejected - I therefore contacted my credit agencies, who Barclays use, which show my credit score to be in the good/excellent ratings (and always has been!). I queried this with Barclays, who could not see why I was rejected and therefore put forward an appeal to their underwriters to reverse the decision. I was contacted today saying they would not overturn this.
I am a professional on an above than average salary, with no commitments, and always have had a solid credit score.
Their criteria is absolutely atrocious. I understand that they do not have to disclose as to why this is the case, but when an individual has always been good with their finance, to then be told they cannot get finance for a phone....is mind-boggling. What a world we live in today.
Terrible, Reheated on Perfect Credit
Terrible! I have a perfect credit score, earn over 100k a year and got turned down for an amazon order of £119 to pay in 3. Now its going to impact my credit for other purchases. They reject based on availability not based on credit score or earnings.
Credit score excellent with all…
Credit score excellent with all agancies , yet refused barclays Amazon purchase for just over a hundred quid.
Will be closing my Barclays account as soon as possible
Lovely experience
Catherine is so very helpful and kind. I had been putting off calling to reinstate my direct debit for some time and Catherine fully understood my situation, empathised, checked my needs for now and in the future and made sure I was happy with our call. Thank you so much Catherine xx
