My dog just started having seizures 3…
My dog just started having seizures 3 weeks ago which I had to take her to Triangle Vet Hospital and they put her on seizure medication. I was told to take her back for bloodwork at her normal veterinarian 2 weeks later. On February 26th I had to drop her off at Banfield for bloodwork and a comprehensive exam. Dr.Jones called me to tell me her blood work was normal and that they did not carry her seizure medicine and I could purchase it through chewy.com and that she was ready for pick up. I went and got her and once I got home, I looked her seizure medication up on chewy.com which is a liquid solution and they did not carry it so I called Banfield back and they pulled her notes up and said that there was a prescription that I could take to the pharmacy and I said well why didn’t y’all give it to me? The receptionist told me she didn’t know why it wasn’t given to me. I was told they could email it to me so I had them do that and I printed it and come to find out there wasn’t even a doctors signature on it. I called Costco to see if they had that medication in stock and they didn’t which they would have to order so I told them I had the prescription that they emailed me and I was told by Costco that was not a legal document. I had to call Banfield back to see if Dr. Jones would fax it over to Costco mind you this is February 26 which is on a Wednesday. I contacted Costco on Thursday, February 27 and they haven’t received anything so I had to call Banfield back to complain about the prescription not being faxed. They told me they would give her another message and said she was really busy. I asked if there were any other doctors in the office that day and I was told yes there was but this other doctor was doing surgeries all day and Dr. Jones was really busy. I said you mean to tell me there’s no one in the office That can fax that the Costco wouldn’t take but a couple seconds do you know they made me drive over there to pick it up so I specifically told them Dr. Jones would not be saying my dogs anymore and that I was on the verge of pulling my dogs out of Banfield which they have been going to for 14 years. It’s ridiculous. I have to wait for two days to get a prescription for a dog who needs their medication so if you take your dog to Banfield, do not see Dr. Jones. I’m just warning you now.
Really inflated prescription prices
One issue I have with Banfield is wanting to charge me 1) $49 for an antibiotic that cost me $3.80 at a pharmacy 2) $48 for an eyedrop script that cost me $8.60. I subscribe to their Wellness Plan that is supposed to give me discounts - what a scam. I was charge $52 for an eye test where they put dye in to see if it’s scratched and another $52 for same eye test on a recheck. Typically this test runs far less at most vets.
It should be 0 stars I took a cat in…
It should be 0 stars I took a cat in to be checked for ticks They didn’t give me a receipt that said explicitly that the doctor had checked her I asked for that the clerk was abusive the manager was abusive the doctor finally wrote something saying the cat didn’t have obvious ticks I suspect that they just gave her the tick medicine and hoped that would take care of it I asked if the cat could be examined and treated in the exam room in my presence the next time and I got the run around on that These people are super bad Don’t go there
I wish there was a way we could put in…
I wish there was a way we could put in ZERO STARS !!!! I called Banfield hospital (Feb. 23, morning in Wilmington , North Carolina (New Centre Drive) to see about getting an appointment, because I knew that my dog was going downhill, in fact she was dying. They got me in for 3. I went in with my son, and they took my dog, and a few minutes later, the Dr. Elinor Hart came out and told me that she was dehydrated and had dental problems, and arthritis. I already knew this, and she told me that if that was her dog, that she would go ahead and get all the testing done, which would cost me a lot of money, and I declined because I knew that my dog was dying, because she is 18 years old. So, I feel that she was trying to make me feel guilty, if I didn't run all those tests on my dog and pay a bunch of money for something that I knew was not going to work for my dog.
Dr. ELINOR HART, did however, convince me to pay out $140 for intravenous liquids, to help her with her dehydration. Which in the long run did not help because she died anyways. So she did get money off of me anyways. My initial quote on them just going in there to look at her was $48, and I ended up spending well over $200.
Dr. Elinor Hart sent me home with my dog, and I went and got the prescriptions, which cost me over $70. And even though I knew my dog was dying, I KNOW that the doctor knew my dog was dying, yet they sent me home with her and did not even give me a choice to have her put down so she would not suffer anymore.5 hours later, she died on front of me.
First of all, the doctor tried to give me to pay extra money for test that I knew was irrelevant with an 18 year old very very sick dog. Then, they never gave me a choice to have her put down. My main intention of going there yesterday was to not bring her home, because I did not want her to suffer, they did not give me that choice and after that it is very wrong and something needs to be done about their practice ethics.
Also, the next morning, I talked to the manager then filled, and told her what happened, and she said that if I filed a complaint, that it would come back to her anyways. So I was very disturbed about that.
Please consider NOT bringing your Fur Baby here...I an still at a loss of my lil girl...and the way their service is there !!! I will continue to revise my post because people need to know this ....
This company engages in deceptive practices... Avoid
Do not order anything online from this company. They will put you on a subscription even if your order for one time use, charge your card at 2AM on Saturday when they are closed and ship you an item before you can dispute as online agents are "unable to see order information." The company engages in deceptive practices and is already subject to a class action law suit for not discounting per their advertised wellness plans. I will contact plaintiff's attorney to join and extend class action suit to putting people on automatic subscriptions and then preventing them from managing such by excluding any subscription information from account management functions on their web portal. Meanwhile, they apparently don't discount whatever subscription they put me on... similar to claims under the existing class action suit.
Worst place you could ever take your…
Worst place you could ever take your loved pet to! They cleared my dog for a teeth cleaning and after the cleaning he went into cardiac arrest. He was in cardiac arrest when he went back for a follow up of the teeth cleaning and Dr. President said he was not in cardiac arrest but had bladder stones. I paid for an xray and paid for them to send it to a specialist to be told he was not in cardiac arrest and not even 8 hours later he was coughing up blood. We rushed him to emergency vet who said he was in advanced cardiac arrest so he was in it when he was under their care. They are not qualified to treat any living thing. I can guarantee I paid for X-rays that were never done because no bladder stones were found in the X-rays the emergency vet took.
WORST PET HOSPITAL EVER
WORST PET HOSPITAL EVER
They don't care anymore! This company ransomed my pet because they charged me wrong! They couldn't handle the emergency and needed to transfer us. She wasn't ready to transfer when they promised she would be. The bill was wrong. They wouldn't give her to me unless i paid. The "vet" was "busy" back and couldn't be available to tell the truth. That's fine he hopefully saving someone else's baby but just bill me then. I'm 42 years old I pay my bills! I am disputing the payment and will never go back! FIRE THAT STAFF NOW!!!
I said she is having an emergency and I have to get her to the hospital! They had the audacity to tell me "well she's in a hospital!" Their OWN VET CALLED ME PERSONALLY to come get her because "They don't have the equipment to handle it." and he "hasn't done one of those procedures since 2019 or 2020." But she's not concerned at the cash register because she is in a hospital when the doctor behind her says HE CANT HANDLE IT!!! CASH COW OPERATION all BanFieldCares HAHAHA Banfield cares about your MONEY THATS IT!!!
Unethical and rude
I paid for annual membership and made all routine visits. I am a physician and was treated by the vet like a colleague. I was not comfortable with the fact that they bring your animal to a back area without the owner for treatment but trusted that they were ethical. At second to last visit they scheduled me for my final visit before the year was up because I notified them that I was not going to renew. I arrived at the time and date they scheduled and was told that my membership had expired the prior day. They then told me that day's visit would be over $300! I argued with staff that they made the appointment knowing the date I was ending my membership. When I asked to speak to the medical director, my regular vet opened exam room door, stated that he was listening through the door, that the visit was not covered under the membership and that I had to leave for being rude to the staff. I mentioned that we were colleagues in medicine and that I would never treat my patients this way but he very angrily stated that I am welcome to complain but that the complaint would just be reviewed by him so there was no point. Now every time I shop at Petsmart I get dirty looks from staff of Banfield.
i feel like i have been taken advantage…
i feel like i have been taken advantage ofI feel as if i have just been scamed taken advantage of I went in because my dog started acting different lethargic, sleeping more than usual not following me around not laying next to me seemed as if in pain, ate yesterday but not today no energy i was concerned so i took him in they said that he needed a cbc i said ok test results showed high or elevated liver enyzmes, i aked what could be the reason i was told could be many multiple reasons could be the breed could be a mass on the liver, options was to get xray or give something and recheck in a month, i said is it an emergency does it need to be done now the xray or, she said i cant tell you how serious it is until xray results, you cant tell me if this is right now an emergency, so not knowing if it needs to be done right now or what i said yes get xray so another lady come out to talk to me about xray you can get it done now and get result back today or get done and get result back by monday, i ask again if this is an emergency do you need the result back today or can it wait til monday, she said i cant tell you what is best theres no right or wrong, i am thinking isnt there some signs that would warrant it to be done stat or routine, vitals something?? so i go with routine and i said i guess if he gets worse i will take him to the 24 hourhosp. i asked again what would cause this his food? or treats? she said theres many reasons why, she said it could be a tumor or mass on liver..when they asked about him i said sometimes he eats the cats food if he can get it, and sometimes he does get food when its dropped so yes he does eat things thats not his dog food...so when i go back to get him the girl comes out and says the xray results are not back yet i said yeah she said monday, the girls says yeah were not really worried about the xray results, and she said she will check you out the girl sitting next to her...it cost like $820.00 i paid it and was thinking to myself wtf this girl just said were not worried about the results what??? i was thinking and left with my dog...as i was driving home and confused about what just took place my phone rings and i was asked does he ever eat food from the table i said yes if he can get to it and cat food i told them that,,,,,then i went on and asked what jut happened this doesnt make sense after i pay820.00 not knowing if this was an emergency or something urgent that needed to be done cause nobody could tell me i said isnt there signs vitals something to indicate urgency of something now your asking me this again and yes my voice was raised no foul language but voice raised....i feel like i have been just taken advantage of
Former employee & client
Former employee here. I highly recommend staying away from Banfield (corporate medicine) in general. As an employee and as a client for this hospital, when I was faced with an emergency that would either need emergency surgery to save my dogs life or he would need to be euthanized (my dog had a splenic tumor that was previously diagnosed due to it bleeding, we scheduled him for surgery at the TO clinic but the splenic tumor began to bleed again days before surgery), I could not get anyone at this hospital to pick up the phone. I was scheduled to work and was unsure if I should go straight to an emergency clinic or if I bring him to work with me. I decided to show up at work with my pet, when I did arrive and notified the staff of the pet's sudden onset of symptoms (refused food that morning, lethargic, pale gums) which all pointed to another internal bleed from the tumor, both doctors on staff and the three other technicians did not respond to the patient appropriately. Although we spoke, and the history of his splenic tumor was brought up, the pet was not treated like an emergency in anyway. The pet was not triaged as soon as possible and he was made to wait to be seen by a doctor while she examined two other healthy, stable patients who were dropped off for preventative care services. Luckily, being a technician myself, I began recording the pet's vital signs, collected blood and began a PCV test then called other associate veterinarians to help assist me interpret the lab results and guide me through the next steps. Eventually one of the associate vets I was consulting with came in to the clinic to assess my pet, and ended up euthanizing him.
There was an instance where I have witnessed a doctor and technicians attempt to place an IV catheter in an elderly dog 12 times - I voiced my concern over how many times they attempted an IV on his collapsed veins but was dismissed. This pet was hospitalized at a local ER the night before and was scheduled to go under anesthesia for a routine dental cleaning as a preventative care service and the pet had barely any build up and did not need extractions. This was for revenue.
I witnessed 5 technicians attempt to forcefully hold down a pit-bull after an ear swab broke off in its ear (shaking during swab) because they couldn’t get it out. It got to the point where the pet began mouthing, almost bite like movements, but he was not outwardly aggressive. He had 5 full grown humans jump on him one by one until it was literally a dog pile, that dog was a saint. It wasn’t until I yelled “Enough” and gave them an earful, took the dog from them and recommended they call the owner for sedation that the overseeing doctor and those 5 technicians stopped how they were treating that pet and changed course.
I witnessed a doctor recommended an owner have us continue with their pet's routine dental cleaning instead of postponing to run a bile acids test because the pet had abnormally high liver enzymes on its pre-anesthetic bloodwork which resulted in death of that pet due to the liver shunt. This course of action was also revenue driven.
I witnessed Mars Corporation (they own Banfield) degrade the quality of supplies (tape for IV catheters, syringes, vaccines, etc.) in our hospitals all while increasing the costs for clients and then go spend money on ridiculous things like advertisements on NASCARS for the brand.
I witnessed this company try to have us enforce Benadryl injections to all pets prior to vaccines, which is an additional cost to the owner to increase revenue. If you are familiar with their Wellness Plans, I have also witnessed this company require us to charge for exams like neuro exam, extremities/lameness exam, etc. on top of the normal exam fee and do this specifically to wellness plan clients whose office exams are covered for a year by their plan.
Do yourself, your pet and the veterinary community a favor by spending your time and hard-earned money at a veterinary practice that has integrity.
This place killed my dog
The new Banfield pet hospital in Salem, Oregon is AWFUL!! They killed my dog!! He was suffering from Congenitive Heart failure. I bought him in because he was coughing and couldn't breath. He needed heart medicine and pills to help pull the fluid from his lungs so he could breath. They gave him a rabies shot and told me I had to call another Banfield to get an EKG done and it could take 5 months!! She told me that there was no other places to do EKGs in our area!! LIES!! Stayton Vet does EKGs. I never gave permission for a rabies shot for my dying dog, they just stressed him out more, he's already had rabies shot!! I immediately called an got him in for an EKG at Stayton Vet where they were appalled by the fact that Banfield would not give my baby any medications!! My baby died because there was just too much fluid by then. Has Banfield actually helped him, I may have had more time!! They charged me 860$ for Nothing!! THEY ARE HORRIBLE!! Please don't go through what I did, go elsewhere
Do not use bainfield there was no…
Do not use bainfield there was no communication about cancellation if your pet is no longer with you. They just tell you it is all part of the contract that you will still have to close out the contract payments. Absolutely ridiculous...
Banfield USED to be a really good vet…
Banfield USED to be a really good vet and their plans were reasonable which is why I started with them. Not only have their prices increased dramatically, but today, when I told them I needed to euthanize a baby that was not on a plan with them, they told me they would need a copy of her records to see what was going on. I told them that trying to get her records was difficult and they said well then we would need to do additional blood work on her. I said she's 16 years old, has cushings disease, problems with her liver and her kidneys are failing. Their response was well our doctors won't euthanize her without all of this information. EXCUSE ME???!!! I have been to several different vets here in Tucson and not one of them has ever told me that they needed records or additional blood work in order to euthanize one of my babies! I believe this is most likely a corporate issue with them trying to get more money out of me after I have already spent several thousand dollars over the last couple of years getting my babies covered and taken care of there. Trust me. The last baby that I just signed up for a plan for just recently will be the last and none of the other contracts will be renewed. I am done!
Do not go to the Banfield Hospital in…
Do not go to the Banfield Hospital in Easley South Carolina they misdiagnose your pet they do not give you the other options that are readily available they put words in your mouth that you never said and they put it in there medical notes you contact corporate office about it and corporate office refuses to talk to you through an email due to it's too complicated a situation to discuss in an email it needs to be done over the phone and then a summarized email will be sent what was said due to the vet putting words in my mouth and putting it in my dog's file of things I never said they expect you to just continue trusting them instead of coming to an agreement to discuss it through an email so there is proof what was said when it was said then the district manager refuses to contact you back you have to contact Better Business Bureau you have to contact Washington State Attorney General's office you have to contact all those things all those places and they still refuse to talk to me about the misdiagnosis on my dog so you decide to go to the media every media you can think of and they still refuse to talk to you about the misdiagnosis their hospital did to your dog so I would think twice about going there
DO not sign for the Wellness plan
DO not sign for the Wellness plan! It is a scam! They will get you into a yearly contract even if your pet dies, And on Auto Renewal!
It is an unfair business practice, fraudulent. Customers should be able to cancel their plans with no penalties.
We should demand transparency from them. NOT recommended.
They don't care about your dog
Being in the medical field myself , I will write a thorough review on what banfield stand for and my experience their with my dog as of january 2025 the contract ends and I have canceled the renewal , the service i had was horrendous brought my dog in for a check up and the doctors assistant came In. i ask a few questions and the assistant was lost in space she grabbed my dog and took it to the back not one time did I see the doctor himself nor did he present himself or the type of treatment my dog would recieved everything was done through the assistant and no explanation of any sort when push comes to shove all the doctor cares about is money and adding extra exams on their that your dog doesn't need . If your dog comes in for 1 thing your suppose to treat the problem and not add exams that are irrelevant banfield sadly has become a gimmick of business transaction and money driven they don't care for your dogs well being when you sign the contract it clearly states even if your dog "dies" you are bound to continue payment until contract is finished re read that last part and let that sink in , alot of time banfield doesn't have required medicine either , I sincerely hope everyone keeps their dogs far away from this place and look for an alternative.
Banfield only cares about money
We have been shown time after time that Banfield does not care about their patients, only that they are paid.
This last instance has made me the most upset. Our kitten, Saga got spayed October 8th and we found out November 2nd that she had opened her stitches. I understand that it is our responsibility that she had opened her wound. However, we were told on November 3rd that she was going to need to be restitched that it could cost upwards of $2,000. We raised the funds of $1,100 that was needed to get her stitches done again. Three days after this on November 6th, her stitches had come undone again after following the care plan Banfield gave us. I brought our invoice to Banfield to ask a few clarifying questions about the $1,100 that we had previously paid because that seemed fairly high just to get some stitches done. I called 7 other veterinarian hospitals in the area and they all told me a good estimate to get restitched in her condition was at the highest $600 give or take the severity. I brought this up to the technician and I was told “it’s cheap for a reason”. I then informed them that her stitches had come undone again and I was told to bring her back the following day (November 8th) to get MORE stitches or possibly staples. My follow up question was what do we do if we can not afford more stitches (the $1,100 charge took all we had), I was told to get a loan. I asked what to do if we got denied for the loan (which we had), they shrugged their shoulders and told me to try again. There was no other treatment plan offered to me other than stitches or staples. I am under the assumption that my cat would not get her wound fixed if I couldn’t come up with the outrageous price they would charge me for the second round of stitches because I was given no other options. I found a different veterinarian hospital and they gave me FOUR different treatment plans all with pricing up front.
After paying my monthly wellness plan, paying for any extra medicine, and paying the $1,100 to restitch my cat, that did not even last 3 days, I was told on November 8th that in order to cancel my wellness plan I owed $1,170. After sending a complaint email, a staff member called me on November 9th to inform me that it was only $357.75 to cancel Saga’s wellness plan. They could not give me the actual number to cancel all 3 plans I had with them. They also did not address any concerns I raised other than the money I owed them, proving to me once again that they only cared about the money.
Banfield is taking advantage of people who trusted them with their pets. They do not give straight answers, do not offer sound advice, and price gouge everything. I do not recommend Banfield by any means.
Do not sign up for the Wellness Plan
Do not sign up for the Wellness Plan. It is a rip off and the operators are very rude if you can get someone after 20 minute hold. They do not pay for what you are sold as a plan. Our dog died the day that they did a bunch of test and charged us for a bunch of prescriptions, after the doctor said nothing to be worried about. Tried to cancel plan, but they would not let us until we paid until plan ended.
Totally disgusted with Banfield my dog…
Totally disgusted with Banfield my dog passed away on 4 July 2024 and I immediately notified Banfield about this. I was told that the wellness plan ran through the beginning of September and that it would be canceled. I just checked my bank account and I was charged for September and October. I contacted Banfield and the customer service agent was extremely rude and unresponsive to my questions. I will never use Banfield pet insurance again while the care was quite good. Their service online really is very poor.
Bainfield Pets Hospital
Bainfield Pets Hospital
Dear Bainfield Pets Hospital Team,
I hope this message find you well. My name is Maria, and I am writing to express my deep concern and sadness regarding a recent visit to your hospital with my beloved pet, Lily.
Lily was in good health just she was vomiting like some times happened to her when we brought her to your facility, but tragically, she passed away the same night after we picked her up. This has been an incredibly distressing time for us, and we are struggling to understand what happened.
We would greatly appreciate any information or explanation regarding her condition during her visit and what might have led to her passing. It feels very strange to us, and we are seeking clarity on this matter.
Thank you for your attention to our concerns. We look forward to your prompt response.
Sincerely,
Maria and Jose
